Russell never claimed to invent anything, and often stated he borrowed from others.

Has This Newspaper Article Been Reviewed Before?
by berrygerry inhttp://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83030431/1917-02-04/ed-1/seq-52/.
one poster's comments:.
nyc was advocating for watch tower to be taxed as a business (legitimate reasons to follow).

Truth is when Russell died, the Watchtower Society was flat broke. He spent every penny he had on the Photo Drama of Creation which he showed for FREE.

Motivations for Watchtower leadership
by GetMeOutofHere ini’ve struggled for some time with this question.
why would the elders, cos, branch committee, helpers to gb and the gb themselves devote their lives to progressing in the organization, if the whole thing is one big sham?
i have 3 ideas so far.. 1) money.

Power, status …. it's a power trip, "Hey everybody look at me I'm an elder, I give talks", "Hey everybody, I'm a pioneer and married to an elder"

If You Could Live In Any Era or Decade What Would It Be?
by minimus ini kind of like the 50’s and early 60’s because of the innocence and “happy days” outlook by that generation.
it seems most people were pretty innocent and real.. would you rather be living in a different era or is this century working for you?
?.

I've always felt out of time, prefer to live in simpler times, late 1800s, early 1900s (1875-1925)

26 Years Later
by Victor ini'm one of earliest adopters of the internet in discovering the real history of the watchtower.
back then it was the wild wild west with newsgroups being the primary sources of information.
then came watchtower observer, freeminds, and all the other sites that followed jwd was one of the later sites.

I was one of the "founding" members of this forum, way back when, of course I used a different account and contributed a hell of a lot, especially during the time people were looking for certain Watchtower material, that I had among my 6,000 books. Sold most of it off on ebay, still selling it off, as I don't have use for it, most of the stuff has been digitalized. Still don't know why I was locked out of my original account. I was gone for over 5 years, visiting here and there.
I was with the witnesses for 12 years, from age 20 to about 32 or so. I just stepped down and walked away. Started meeting with a local Bible Student group in the area, served as deacon, then elder, then I stepped down and walked away. Got divorced after 25 years, and moved to the Midwest, where I have remarried (why, I'll never know, should've stayed single).
I started out on AOL, had a lot of fun on that site and the JW and xJW forums. We even had a gathering of the AOL members, made up of ex, inactive and current JWs. I still have the group picture we took somewhere.
I had the first Bible Students website and forum, debated a lot of JW's.
I still remember all the JW and exJW forums out there, and some of the crazies who professed to be anointed and had a following … LOL
Ah, those were the days!

There are a few that I wonder about. Had a close friend with the JW's. He dropped me like a hot potato. A lot of the ones I associated with are disfellowshipped from what I hear, but in the end, out of sight, out of mind.

I met a woman on a Facebook group that I admin. nothing in her profile stated she was a JW, no comments or postings. but the background of her profile picture looked like a Kingdom Hall, I just saw chairs in a room, so I asked her, and she admitted she was one.

Do elders still ask inactive members to write a letter to disassociating yourself from the Congregation?
by RULES & REGULATIONS indo today's elders ever meet with inactive members and pressure them to write a letter disassociating themselves from the congregation stating that, ''you no longer wish to a jehovah witness"?.
i was baptized at the young age of 16. after turning 18, i stopped attending meetings, field service, and all jehovah's witness activities.
i wanted to be with my high school friends, go to rock concerts, have a girlfriend, and live like a normal teen.

I was always butting heads with the Presiding Overseer and the rest of the Body of Elders. The P.O. hated me with a passion, but at the same time respected me because I didn't kiss his ass like everyone else did, and he knew he could come to me and get a straight, honest answer. Having had enough I had him my resignation from the body, walked out the door and never went back. that was 25 years ago, they called me a few times, trying to meet with me but I just blew them off. I don't know what ever happened, nor do I care. I'm out and have moved on.
