Scholar, let me get this straight. You believe 607 BCE to be the date for the destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of the people? I gather this would happen at the start of Nebuchadnezzar's rule. So Jerusalem and surroundings would be desolate for seventy years. Afterwards the Jews would be freed by Cyrus, to be back in Jerusalem by 537 BCE.

No. The exile, servitude to Babylon and the desolation of the Land al are elements of the 70 years and could only have begun as one singular event which began in Neb's 18/19th with the Fall of Jerusalem.It could not have begun any earlier as those primary elements did not exist for the land was occupied and the Jerusalem and its Temple had not been destroyed.

So how is it that Nebuchadnezzar could exile people from Jerusalem in his 18th year and destroy Jerusalem in his 19th year? According to Watchtower theology, Jerusalem had already been destroyed in 607 BCE. As I said, this is impossible.

Now let’s look at it from a secular chronology perspective. Nebuchadnezzar became king in 605 BCE. In his 19th year he destroyed Jerusalem and took the majority of the people into exile.
That means 605 – 19 = 586 BCE (give or take a few months).
And according to the Israelite kings: First year of Jehoiakim, Tishri 608 (Sept–Oct) to Elul 607 (Aug–Sept). Third year of Jehoiakim, Tishri 606 (Sept–Oct) to last of Elul, 605 (Oct 6). Next followed Jehoiachin’s appointment, lasting only three months. Nebuchadrezzar, in his 8th year, would take 800 into exile, including Jehoiachin.
Zed·e·kiʹah was 21 years old when he became king, and he reigned for 11 years in Jerusalem. It was because of Jehovah’s anger that these things took place in Jerusalem and in Judah, until he cast them out of his sight. And Zed·e·kiʹah rebelled against the king of Babylon. In the ninth year of Zed·e·kiʹah’s reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, King Neb·u·chad·nezʹzar of Babylon came with all his army against Jerusalem. They camped against it and built a siege wall all around it. And the city was under siege until the 11th year of King Zed·e·kiʹah (2 Chron. 36:5-20).
Again: 608 – 11 – 11 = 586 BCE (give or take a few months).
Two things here. First, your methodology does not account for the historical 70 years which would properly fix the beginning of Neb's reign as it ignores the gap of 20 years between secular and Bible chronology and second, scholar notes that you prefer 586 rather than 587 which would upset Jeffro..

And the Watch Tower Society acknowledges the relative timing of the siege on Tyre (though it erroneously claims it was against the mainland city, which was actually Ushu).

Some time after' is the expression used as there are no specific details as to when Neb besieged Tyre so its anyone's guess.

A trite Watch Tower Society lie (but inherited from its Protestant origins). The entire book of Daniel mentions a future kingdom of God only 2 times, and 7 of the 12 chapters don’t mention God’s kingdom at all.

According to the Old Greek translation of Daniel in Daniel 4:1 Neb had the tree dream in his 18th year and 12 months later the experience of the dream was realized. after seven years had elapsed was restored to his kingdom. Dan.4: 1, 26. After his restoration to the kingship Neb thereupon he wrote" a circular letter to all the nations in their individual places, and to countries and people of all languages which live in all the countries in generation after generation". Dan. 4:34b and "He sent letters concerning everything that happened to him in his reign to all the nations that were under his dominion" Dan.4: 34c.- Daniel, Hermeneia Series, John j Collins, 1993, Fortress Press, pp. 209, 215, 215.
Where then are these documents and why are they not presented amongst the Babylonian historical records today?

It seems poor doofus doesn’t understand that the total duration of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign (including any spurious 7 years of insanity) is the same in the JW chronology as it is in the actual chronology (necessitated by the Bible’s identification of Jehoiachin’s release from prison), though the JW chronology moves it 20 years earlier and messes up the order of events at the beginning of his reign. So the only way to ‘account for the seven years’ in any meaningful way is to specify a range of years, otherwise someone (if they believed it was a real period) could just assert that the 7 years of insanity was ‘some time after 587 BCE’

It seems that poor boofhead does not account or provide a complete account of Neb's reign omitting any reference to neb's missing 'seven years' which undermines the integrity of not only Neo-Babylonian Chronology but its history long championed by the likes of COJ .Thus one can construct a chronology based on this information as follows:
Neb's dream in his 18th year -607 BCE
Neb's vacancy after 12 months - 606 BCE
Neb's restoration after 7 years - 599 BCE

Restating the claim made in the story is not a valid response to the question. It just reminds us that you don’t understand the period or context in which Daniel was written. But the point is well made… you have no stable chronology of the neo-Babylonian period.

The book of Daniel is not a story but that of history and prophecy written by a witness to the events of the Neo-Babylonian Period who lived through the 70 years. Thus when he refers to a period pertaining to Neb then that must be accounted for if one wishes to construct an authentic chronology of the period. The context of Daniel is that of the 6th century and any so-called Chronology of the Neo-Babylonian period that omits any reference to Neb's vacancy from the throne is bogus.

587 BCE is actually the preferred dating in scholarship since the publication of BM 21946, and no analysis of the primary texts since then supports 586 BCE. But aside from that, the cognitive dissonance is astounding coming from someone who accepts the JW nonsense about 607 BCE.

586 or 587 BCE are bogus dates for the Fall of Jerusalem. Since 1975 when A.K.Grayson published his translation of BM 21946 scholars remain uncertain about which date either 586 or 587 is correct. Currently, the said scholar would propose that it is an even split between both candidates. Further, confusion remains about the methodology surrounding such a contention.

The fact is that Daniel refers to a period during Neb's reign in which he was vacant from the throne. This period is accepted to be a literal seven years that must be factored in any scheme of Neb's reign for Chronology. The period must be inserted after Neb's 19 th year-607 BCE and before the end of his reign so you have much to play with.
