  The Russell that died was a completely different man as the Russell who started a bible study-group of 6 people. He became his own victim. --redpill

  Can you elaborate more? Never heard of how he died.

  At this stage he rejected all attempts to put a date on the parousia. He invested heavily using his own money and resisted appeals by his readers to form a new church or organisation. He taught that Christ's 'sheep' were to be found in every church.-- cofty

  So he started off with a good motive. But he later set the date of christ's parousia at 1874 and then change it to 1914.

  There is another thing I want to know. Did he ever claim to be god's prophet?

  When You Die Would You Haunt The Governing Body? If It were Possible?

  i've been reading a lot about reincarnation these days and i'm beginning to think that it quite possibly might be true, it seems to fit in nicely with the idea that we live in a computer simulation.. anyway according to the tibetan book of the dead when we die we seem to hang around on the earth waiting for rebirth.

  hey, where did you read that from? We can choose our parents???????

  I thought reincarnation is based on past karma????

  i was having a conversation with a relative who has been inactive for several decades (part of the ‘75 generation) and he argued that a person that is a born in is better off staying in the organization rather than someone like him who lived as a “worldly” person but then became a witness later in life.

  he argues that when you’re born in, all you know nothing outside of the organization, so you’re better off in than out, that’s why when born ins leave the org, they always come back.

  i agree that as a born in, your social circle is composed of witnesses but i do feel that even born ins would be happier outside of the org than being in.

  I am a born-in but left nearly a year ago at age 16. I would say when I was a jw and was still fully convinced that it is the truth, I was happier. I have a hope then. Maybe ignorance is not a bad thing after all.

  Now that I am out. I faced the question many people have : What is the purpose of life?

  I cannot be happy when I find no answer....

  I am now able to do things that were forbidden by the wt. I have done them all. Sex, blood, birthdays, christmas...I need to force myself to do these things at first. But now, they are norm to me. But I am still not happy.

  I was like a terminally ill patient. Someone lied to me that there is a cure for it. I was happy and hopeful. But then I found out that it was a lie.......

  Brokeback, I would advise that if you become a ghost while awaiting reincarnation, you better stay away from jws as far as possible. You can be easily sucked into the womb of a pregnant jw and we will see you here again in this forum in about 20 years time...

  What if Damascus is destroyed fulfilling Isaiah 17 prophecy?

  i don't think the wt ever say anything about this prophecy.

  if they did, i think they will say it is symbolic and that it doesn't mean damascus will be destroyed literally,.

  but watching the things happening now in syria , it seems very possible that it could happen.. if this prophecy comes true, will those of you here who have rejected the bible as the word of god think twice regarding the bible?.

  Thank you all for your replies. I have got the answer I need.

  I found that I have not really learnt my lesson after being misled by the wt for 16 years.

  Now christendom churches just pick a verse from the bible and throw it at me and I was shaken. I did not check the context. Deegee's short answer woke me up. What was Isaiah prophesying about? His time or centuries later? The answer is just a verse before it..."within 3 years" (Isaiah 16:14) So he is not talking about what will happen to Damascus centuries later but what will happen within 3 years of that prophecy! So that prophecy obviously didn't come true...Damascus is still inhabitable!

  I have just left the wt 9 mths ago. I still cannot say I have completely regard the bible as bullshit. I have to admit that there is still a belief lingering inside my head that the bible is true.

  Many times I have tried to shrug it off. But it just keep on coming back.

  Please let me know what you think if bible prophecies come true.

  a very close classmate of mine met an accident and died last nite.... just 4 months after i da'd from the borg.. if i am still in, i wouldn't be so sad.

  he has the hope of resurrection.. but now that i am out, i realise that resurrection in paradise is all bullshit.. so what's next?

  not to be overly harsh...but if you just left, what the hell were you thinking?

  between 1995 and now, you never did an internet search of "jehovahs-witness" or "watchtower"?

  I remembered I first visited xjw sites a year or 2 ago when I was just 14 or 15 y.o.

  The first few posts frightened me....they are mocking Jehovah's name..they are sinning against the holy spirit!

  I DA'd in june this year. I have doubts on the wt. But I still think the Bible is God's word.I needed support after I da'd. But I still dare not visit xjw sites. Then came september, there is a lot of fuss regarding Rev 12 and sept 23rd. I needed answers on it. I have a choice, visit jw or xjw sites. I choose the latter. In about 3 weeks, you guys convinced me that the bible is just a book of bullshit!

  AKid, hit submit button only once.

  I also have experienced a few times. After I hit submit, it keeps on saying "submitting..." non-stop. I go make a cup of coffee. When I'm back, it is still submitting.
