Dede..........or should I say "Auntie Dede"......Yes, A. did a good job. What was funny is she was standing listening to the speakers with me. Much was going over her head. I wanted to keep her attention so I asked her to please take the camera and wander around a bit. I thought it would be interesting to look at her pictures and see what a 12 year old sees during a rally. She told me she liked to see people's expressions on their faces.....I asked her if she understood what "patriotism" meant when we left. "Oh, yeah, Mom. I could see it in people's faces." There were ~5 vets sitting in wheelchairs in the front row that she wanted to take their pictures.....but was to shy to. She told me and her step-dad last night that she wants to get into photography......and learn all the words to the National Anthem.
A. ran into a friend of her's from class who's brother is in the Service. His mother was at the rally too. A. said knowing who this boy is and his family made the war "more at home" for her-not just some news on CNN.
Last night she was a hyped as me. Wanting to know all about her relatives that served our country in the past Wars. Today I am going to show her the old military pics I have of her great grandfathers.....this may have possibly sparked a new interest for her. After our conversation last night, she told me how she wished that she could say thank you to her great grandfather for serving in WWII.........that brought tears to my eyes. Being that he has been gone for a long time....that grandpa would want her to support our troops now......how that is thank you enough from a 12 year old for our soldiers.
Someday, A will be my age.......and we can look back and remember history as it was in the making....and remember this moment that we shared together. Most definately a bonding experience.
Damn, that kid makes me proud sometimes!
BTW.......BIG thanks to SoLR for hosting my pics!

Today my daughter and I went to a Support Our Troops Rally held on by Lake Superior in Duluth MN. It was THE most awe inspiring event I have been to in a long time.
Over 3000 people attended. National talk show host, Glenn Beck was flown in to speak along w/many other speakers. This whole even was organized by a 16 year old girl! She was outstanding to listen to . Gave a wonderful speech on civil rights. She made the Northland proud.
As we were walking in, a procession of bikes with came in......following the American Flag.
The speakers were fantastic. There was one that brought me to tears. A Viet Nam Vet, shot down twice and came home with numerous commendations, talked about how difficult it was to fight in Nam. But second hardest to watching people die was coming home to his home town in Iowa and have dog feces and urine thrown on him. When he got choked up and shed a tear, many (including myself) did too. His words were "we can't let our boys come home to that."
Another thing that was great to see was the families w/little children there. Teaching patriotism and the importance of supporting our troops and understanding the value of freedom. Myself included-hoping that my daughter appreciates and understands her freedom. Hoping that she understands how many people have put their lives on the line for our freedom.
Duluth is small town. I was soooooo surpised at the outpouring of support. It made me soooooooo proud to be part of it.
Tomorrow when the paper comes out, I will post the link.

Should I have to now support the war just because I feel for the service men and woman?
No. The decision has already been made to go to war. How about supporting our troops?

Oh please, Scooter girl, no need to censor yourself. Shout it out. I for one don't care what you have to say, but perhaps others on this forum do. We wouldn't want them to miss your profound remarks.
You wanna hear it, Rob? Okay.....
First of all.......that totally made you look like an idiot in my eyes. Not that it mattered, but for someone that is trying so hard to make a point, you just diminshed yourself with that one. If I saw something like that happen with any one of the protests here (pro or anti), or heard a comment about that here, I would not take the protesters seriously.
I just went to a Support Our Troops Rally today.......I was totally moved. The experience was awe inspiring. I respect your right to protest, but damn, girl......are you in this for attention? Guess you just aren't getting the point of it, are you?
Miss my profound remarks........LOL......
All I can say to that is sorry that I don't write manifestos about leaving......then stay. Nothing but a drama queen in my eyes.....seeking attention. Lift your skirt all you want. But I can tell you this........if that is how you need to get your point across.....more power to you. I am sure the Iraqi men and women appreciate your efforts. Oh wait...maybe you don't care about how they are treated. Maybe that means that our soldiers fighting for YOUR freedom will appreciate your humor and actions today. They are laying their lives on the line for freedom for peoples of not only the US but also other countries......and maybe all they need in your words is a little "love" and possibly some women to lift their skirts.
This "red blooded American gal" doesn't stoop to such measures and laugh about it. Let alone post it........go lay by your dish.
Don't even respond, Rob......cause I aint gonna waste my time nor energy on this.
Christy of the "extremely patriotic" and don't find humor in mocking it Klass
