I went to my first peace rally and march tonight. It was incredible. At one time there were probably 350 of us all joined in solidarity. About 3/4 of the many people who drove by, honked their support. The conservative press would like us to believe that 76% of Americans support this war with Iraq. Sorry, but I think that the press is lying.
The protestors were well received. We did get a couple of birds shot at us but when that happened, I blew kisses to the offenders. They seemed surprised to see that sort of response. It was so hilarious when one guy drove by and yelled "commie bastards" at us. I couldn't help but laugh and I blew him a kiss too. Many drove by and shouted "God bless America." We shouted God bless America back at them. And then, of course, saluted them with the peace sign.
There are more protests going on tomorrow. You can check this link to find out where:
If you decide to go to a protest, make sure you wear comfortable shoes; you will probably be marching too. Oh, and take water. Protesting is thirsty work. Some of the chants you may hear are:
"1,2,3,4...We don't want this bloody war, 5,6,7,8...We will not co-operate"
"Drop Bush, not bombs"
"What do we want? Peace! When do we want it? Now!"
"Tell me what Democracy looks like.....This is what Democracy looks like"
Shout 'em with pride and remember, God Bless America.
Love,
Robyn
