I really can't decide between the Revelation book and Life: How Did it Get Here. These were both my favorites when I was a kid: Revelation I liked because of the bizarre, apocalyptic imagery and Life contained just enough pseudo-science to satisfy my doubts and my affection for real science. However, soon I was reading worldly books that trumped these on both points. Compared to The Book of the Subgenius, Revelation is pretty tame; and Richard Dawkins exposes Life for the simplistic straw man argument that it is.

WhatshallIcallmyself: Ghosts aren't real and poltergeists are not throwing stuff around rooms. Minds play tricks and people lie. It is as simple as that, even if it is entertaining to read...
Oh please... You sound like a protagonist from a Lovecraft story. You would be the first person to totally loose their shit in a real encounter with an eldritch horror. A rigid mind like yours is bound to shatter...

DEMONISMđź‘ż
by minimus inwhen i was a kid and even in my adult life i believed in demons.
the demons were always around.
we had to be careful that we didn't do anything to upset jehovah or else the demons would make their way to us.

My mother is constantly being tormented by them. They tried to run her off the road when she was driving. Another time they tried to kill her by making a light fixture above her head fall. They are always playing tricks on her at night so she can't sleep. I asked her why she loves Jehovah so much when he won't even protect her from the demons, but she thinks she is being tested like Job was.
The truth is that 'demons' are actually angels sent by Jehovah to harry his followers in order to increase their faith. No actual minion of Satan is going to bother haunting someone, as this would only reinforce their belief in God and motivate them to pray, read the Bible, etc. Real fallen angels have better things to do with their time than playing practical jokes and scaring Christians; or for that matter buying the souls of worthless loosers who managed to find a free pdf version of The Grand Grimiore online.

Since becoming familiar with those of other faiths, I've come to appreciate just how narrow and fanatical the JW concept of faith is. I've met plenty of Christians, for example, who sometimes doubt and struggle with the existence of God. But, just as David mentioned, their religion isn't just a matter of belief, but a practice that involves trying to live as Jesus did to the best of their present ability. In many religions - even Christianity - having doubts is a natural part of having faith. It's just a matter of being honest with oneself and others rather than pretending to know things about the world that one has no way of proving.
What JWs and most fundies miss is that most religions have an inner dimension to them of personal subjective experience. The faith of a non-fundamentalist does not stand or fall on the veracity of scriptures or the authority of a cult leader, but it rests on the foundation of a person's own personal experiences. If one feels the presence of God, for example, than faith in dogma, scriptures and annointed leaders is superfluous.

Worth noting is that throughout history, the non-violent are usually slaughtered and brushed aside. What they were able to achieve was in no small measure due to the system they were up against being ready and willing to change and just needing some focus to show it to be true.
I'm assuming you knew I was being sarcastic. I think that nonviolence can work, but only in a very civilized context. There has to be a sympathetic audience out there who will see their fellow humans getting beaten up and be able to identify with them to some degree. The ones who are actually doing the beating will only be encouraged by their victim's lack of resistance. Nonviolence definitely did not work for me when I was getting bullied in elementary school, but that was only because the place was run my sociopaths.
That sizeable numbers of people living in America think there are real live Nazis roaming around in large numbers that should be pre-emptively killed is astounding and scary. That they imagine they are morally obligated and excused for doing so and that their words and actions don't constitute "hate" is astounding.
They aren't Nazis in a political sense, but they present the same threat if they were to ever organize. For my part I have met plenty of people who hate jews and gays; and I live in a fairly liberal town! They don't dress like Nazis. They don't usually sport racist tattoos; but I can assure you that they are ubiquitous here. All you have to do is subtly imply that you might hate the same people they do and listen to them go off. I can only imagine how many such people exist in any major city. Probably tens of thousands.
If I were Jewish and someone expressed their desire to kill jews, I might decide that a preemptive strike is in order. Is that wrong? Maybe it is; but from a tactical perspective it makes sense to face your enemy at a time and place of your choosing, rather than waiting for them to make the first move.
Wow. Absolutely sickening. You are a repulsive individual.
Scratchme might be right. I said before that it was probably just a psycho, but who knows? All of us, at least once in our lives, have had the urge to stab the stuffing out of another person and we all believed at the time that we'd be justified in doing so. We just don't know yet what set this guy off. Maybe he was psychopathic, deluded or paranoid; but then again, maybe he had another motive that anyone could relate to.

Until they reform, antifa and democrats are two faces of the same terror organization where the only difference is that one half has realized the logical conclusion of the other half’s ideas and has the courage to act upon that conviction. It is similar to the relationship between the Muslim brotherhood/Al Qaeda.
I agree. Every time I hear someone express an opinion I don't agree with, I want to kill them, because I've come to understand, through experience, that no amount of reasoning will ever change their minds. Also, as men like Gandhi and MLK Jr. demonstrated, nonviolence has never and will never change anything. As a liberal, I was the first to get on board with the war on Iraq and Afghanistan because I realize that mass muder is the only true solution to any problem. When will those bleeding heart fools understand?

At the risk of being called an ill-informed dumbass: how is stabbing four frat boys related to fighting fascism? If anything, this seems more like a plot to defame Antifa since it does not serve their professed goal in any way. Just a lone psycho with a knife. I don't see any deeper political message here.

Shunning: The Transcendence of Emotion?
by Rainbow_Troll ini was watching video on youtube about a man who gave up one of his kidneys to his sister who was suffering from kidney disease.
for him it was no small sacrifice, since he isn't in the best of health himself.
still, he had no hesitations over it and no regrets either.

I was watching video on YouTube about a man who gave up one of his kidneys to his sister who was suffering from kidney disease. For him it was no small sacrifice, since he isn't in the best of health himself. Still, he had no hesitations over it and no regrets either. My friend has two sisters and once tried to explain to me how much he loves them both, even though one of them is a total brat who was always going out of her way to get him in trouble.
Richard Dawkins attempts to explain love between siblings in purely naturalistic terms: since siblings share many of the same genes and genes are the unit of evolution (according to Dawkins' "selfish gene" theory) it makes perfect sense for one sibling to endanger themselves or even sacrifice their life to save another, even though this degree of altruism might seem very anti-Darwinian on a superficial level.
That the WT has such a hold over people, strong enough to even turn siblings against each other, is sad but also amazing in a way. I'm an only child myself and if I did have siblings, I wouldn't want to abandon them; but I often wish I had the power to just turn off my emotions like that. Even when I was a JW, I wasn't able to do it. I couldn't shun my friend when he was DF'd and now that I am being shunned, I can't stop having feelings for those who are shunning me. Like most people, I am perfectly capable of shutting down emotionally in a crises so I can do whatever needs to be done; but when the crises is over all those feelings return and I am forced to deal with them. I sometimes wonder if this ability really has anything to do with being a JW. Maybe permanently shutting down one's emotions is just a natural capacity that some people have, but which JWs simply have more opportunities to exercise. As terrible as it is, I can't help but admire it. It's like they are just born with this perfect, Buddhist detachment which actual Buddhists struggle to develop over lifetimes.

Thanks for posting such an inspirational story. It just goes to show that those who seek the Kingdom first will have all their necessities provided for by Jehovah.
