i have been a jw for over 40 years but currently am very discouraged and not very active.
i served at bethel for 4 years, 1963-67, spent most of my time at the kindom farms, s.lansing, ny.

You are right about statements not matching on the WT CD. I find this true about most religions that have CDs out. It seems that most religions try to cover over the old foot in the mouth by their leaders. If the rank and file would catch a clue they would realize that following men leads you off a cliff.
a 'friend' of mine keeps telling me that everything i am reading here on this board is a packload of lies from people who have no respect for god.. he also tells me that if i would just go to the kh for once, that i would see for myself that jws are not the bad people that they are portrayed to be.. while i have my own convictions about this subject, i was curious to know what others' opinions would be on the fruitfullness of taking up this man's offer and going to the kh to see for myself.

It is always good to see both sides of the issue. In this case, I see nothing wrong with you going to the Kingdom Hall with your friend. I also see nothing wrong with you stepping in front of a train bearing down at the speed of 50 miles per hour. Your chances with the train are better than the deception of the WT.
To attend a meeting at the Kingdom Hall, unless very familiar with what this religion is, I would strongly suggest against it.

i've spent most of my web time over the last 2 years at another site full of ex-jdubs...i'd say about 50 people post there on occasion...many of that number regularly.. what struck me from the beginning, as i got to know the people posting there was...how many were now atheists...non-believers in god...the bible...pretty much anything they once held sacred as jw's!.
i dare say...90 some % do not consider themselves christian now!.

I have listened to John MacArthur's Grace to You program. He does have some good messages.
I have attended several churches in the past 10 years since leaving the WT. Calvary Chapel is the most laid back and informal. The messages are less dogmatic or legalistic but still go in line with the Bible. I also attend the LDS (Mormon)church at times. The reason for so doing are for research purposes, not because I believe the teachings of the LDS, as a matter of fact I find most of their doctrines moronic. I have problems with believing that the Bibles we have today are exact or represent the original manuscripts. I believe they all have been tampered with to a degree and most are written with a bias.
Take for instance 1 John 5:7 For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. NIV
The KJV says: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
I find it interesting that the words (in heaven: the Father, the Word and the Spirit, and these three are one; there are three witnesses on earth) are not found in any of the early Gk MSS, or any of the early translations, or in the best MSS of the Vulg. itself. I see these words added to form a more Trinitarian bias. It appears that the words Father, the Word and the Spirit and these three are one are probably a gloss that has crept into the text.
As far as my belief, I do believe in God and his son Jesus.

Does one have to label themselves Christian to be a believer in God?
Where did the term Christian come from?
if this topic has been addressed already...sorry...just ignore it.... if not...i would like to hear from those who would defend this policy....or who see the inconsistencies in the views on blood but the wtbts.. .
