  Rutherford did not publically admit that he made an ass of himself. It was done privately at Bethel. There was no word that he admitted this, as far as I know, until the October 1984 WT. Notice the word (once), "once confessed to us at Bethel". Rutherford did not say this to the Rank and file followers. He did not admit that he made an ass out of himself in public. Therefore he was only humble to a few, not many. Meaning, he was a haughty ass to many, humble to a few.

  A king in procession had come to the town,
  Riding an ass that was playing the clown:
  For as people hailed and saluted their King
  And started in joy his great praises to sing,
  The ass made a curtsy and smiled and bowed
  And sat down to salute the worshipping crowd.
  The King in his rage had the ass fully stripped.
  And there on the street had him publically whipped.

  Which reminds us of some that our Master has used
  Who, puffed up with pride, their office abused;
  And not honouring Him in all their ways,
  They took to themselves His honour and praise-
  But pride brings destruction, or something quite near it,
  And so they were stripped of the Truth and its spirit;
  For they are devoid of true wisdom, alas
  Who possess the audacity of the ass!

  this is sort of a take-off of the "what should the wt do" thread.. i need to get together a board of directors and elect a president and officers.

  we need to figure out a doctrine, a manifesto, and a set of disciplinary rules.

  we need to figure out a way to fund our new movement.

  I have been thinking, being you are the founder of this new religion, you should be looked upon by the group as the Co-redemer and Co-Mediator to God. In other words, the group goes through you, or whatever you have taught for the moment to get to God. This would keep everyone in the group towing the line in fear of losing salvation by leaving the group and not abiding by your wishes.

  To question you would be questioning God himself.
