Believers: How do you know your view of your chosen holy book is the correct one?
by punkofnice indon't start fighting, darlings.
i am genuinely curious.
after all i was a jobo 50 years and thought the wbt$ was 100% correct.. i ask this because i see that, for example, christian denominations (or whatever), likely have differing interpretations of the same writing.

This is something that has troubled me. I am leaning towards the view that no religion is the true religion. The Bible was written afore time for our instruction. No where does it say that you will need an interpreter. I now think that I should be able to read the bible and understand it and that where it says to"get out of her my people" refers to all religions who would have you follow them without question. -

For Christians: What do you think about an Armagedon and the Afterlife
by John Davis ini don't mean for anyone to get into argument over this, i just want to hear what people believe.i hope that no one will mock or argue with someone else about their beliefs, i know that i won't in this topic.. i still believe in a christian god, not what jws believe, but believe that there has to be something after this life.
i am not sure about how armageddon would go, would it be like how evangelicals believe with a rapture or timing or anything, though i still believe in a form of armageddon.
i do think that all good people will go to heaven but i don't believe in a hell.

Regardless of what each person believes only one thing can be true. Since no one can prove beyond a doubt that what they believe is true, I have decided to take a "what will be, will be" view. If God does exist and can in fact read hearts then let him read mine and "what will be, will be". If he does not exist I will meet my end at some point and "what will be, will be".
Either way losing sleep over it and getting anxious over what the answer might be seems to be a waste of energy and time.

Considering your age you should probably go along with your family as normal. Speak to your friends as normal. Not much else you can do at this point.

I am very sorry to hear you are going through this. There is nothing worse than watching a loved one pass away without any power to change it.

Hi Akid48
I was raised a JW. I have found if you ask questions with a sincere tone of wanting to know the answers you will not get shut down as quickly.
My recommendation to you is to perhaps visit the library in the KH and look up some of the old literature such as the Finished Mystery Book. This was published around the time they said they were chosen by Jehovah to be the Faithful and Discreet Slave. Then you can ask your questions pertaining to your research such as what was it that happened in 1919 that definitively proves that they were chosen by Jehovah then and if he chose them then, why is it that what they believe now is so different to then?
If the question of you getting baptised comes up remind them that Jesus was 30 when he was baptised and that JW do not baptise children for the fact that they are not able to make such a life choice so young. It is a solemn and important decision that you do not want to rush into.
A few years ago we were told by a CO that until you are baptised, you are an unbeliever so all children and youths are technically unbelievers. (tell that to the kids who are refusing cake at school)
You are free to research and choose for yourself. If anyone pressures you remember that they say "we all must account for ourselves" so doing anything out of compulsion is not going to help anyone when Jehovah does the final judging.
At this stage - since you are not baptised - you are free to do all the research and learning you please and not just on the JW.org site. So go ahead and do the research. That is what the bible says to do in proverbs 14:5 and Romans 12: 1 & 2 and Acts 17:11.

Grooming as a Witness
by Jules Saturn ingrowing up as a teenager, i would occasionally get some counseling for having my hair a bit too long by a couple of elders in the congregation.
one time i cut my hair shorter than usual and one elder said i was cutting it too short!
so it made me feel like anything i did wouldn't satisfy them.

My partner grew a goatee. One day one of the elders visited him with a slip for a bible reading talk in the hall. He said to him "this is your talk but you will have to shave if you want to give it". He told the elder to find someone else to give the talk.
My mum always said "look at the news readers, how they appear to the public is how we should appear". That worked until they started to come on TV wearing beards. Hahaha So now it is "what is acceptable in the business community?"
There seems to be so much control and rules around how we look. Jehovah is the reader of hearts.

Special Bethelite Speakers
by JW_Rogue ini've noticed that some elders will insist on getting a special bethel speaker for memorials, special talks, or sometimes for no reason at all!
i believe they are trying build connections they can use later, but who pays for it?
the congregation does and as a former account servant i can tell you airfare isn't all that cheap.

Not about speakers but we had the CO and his wife stay with us. Got so excited to be given such a privilege! Gave up our room and slept in the kids rooms for the week. Took them out for dinner' sent them off with hundreds of dollars of "special diet" (,they are all allergic to something) food and then heard on the grapevine that others got annoyed we got to have them ,because "only spiritual ones should get such a privilege". The kicker came when they came back to our congregation a couple of years later and didn't even remember our names or say hello. Complete blank stares as if they had never met us before.

To Fade or Disassociate
by Jules Saturn inhello to all, so i did want to talk about this topic because i think it is very important to me.
i have a grandfather who faded several decades ago.
he occasionally attends an assembly and the memorial but no longer attends meetings or goes on field service.

I accidentally faded. Lol. Got weighed down with sick kids and depression. Missed soooo many meetings. Not one person came looking for me in over a year and so I just didn't bother going back. Then I started to feel the fog lift and found I had many questions that should have been asked prior to baptism. What did I know? I was a kid and did it because my friends were doing it. No real idea what I was signing up for. So 2 years later I am awake and my spouse was like "about time. I have been saying this stuff for years". My sibling faded years ago so just mum I left in. We will fade to spare our family the problems that would come from us DA and so that if we run into ones we know out shopping they don't have to turn and run. Lol.

Thank you for sharing this. I have children one in his teens and another not quite a teen yet. My youngest does not believe God exists and the other is just not sure but wants the freedom to investigate where he likes. I want them to use their own minds and make their own choices. I too awoke quite late but it not too late for them. For that I am grateful.

Geoffrey Jackson: "That would be presumptuous of us"...
by Calebs Airplane inwithin the first few minutes, mr. stewart asked geoffrey jackson if the members of the governing body consider themselves to be god's spokesperson on earth.. his response: "that would be presumptuous of us" (implying that they don't consider themselves to be god's sole channel of communication).. to me, that was the worst lie of about 26 lies he's told during this hearing.
however, mr. stewart missed an opportunity to call out mr. jackson on this bold-faced lie.
he should have asked him to explain why the watchtower magazine teaches otherwise.

When mentioning this to someone recently their reply was to point out that even the Apostle Peter denied Jesus 3 times and Jesus did not rebuke him or punish him but forgave him. So perhaps fear of man or nerves got the better of him.
It got me thinking though - if he had said yes then he may have been asked to prove this claim and well there is no proof so his answer was clever.
