I have been for special talks and the memorial. My family were smiling like Cheshire Cats because we were there. Some will go for the memorial each year just to make the family happy and for no other reason. I guess I will be doing the same until our parents are no longer with us.

I have been told that if you are inactive you are no longer counted. Not sure if that is true. I imagine there are many that give nothing at all. When I was growing up my father was the accounts servant and he often wrote cheques to cover expenses because the donations did not cover it. That was back in the 80s.

Being a jobo. It's not the same as it was.
by punkofnice ini've been hearing this from what i'd call 'dyed in the wool' type jobos.. 'it's not the same as it was a few years ago.....'.
i believe from what comes back to me via my spies -.
the dyed in the woolers are referring to how the gb are now blatantly pontificating threateningly it seems, about wanting money even from children, all the time.

All the changes may wake some up but there are those like my family who see all the changes and think it is wonderful how easy Jehovah is making it for them now.
They are happy to do cart witnessing and to be able to click on scripture in the watchtower rather than actually looking them up. They love the videos as they are easy to watch rather than study. They are still happy to blindly follow.

Freudian slip in last Sunday's WT?
by The Fall Guy ini had this point highlighted to me yesterday by a dyed-in-the-wool j.w.
who is beginning to see cracks in his beloved golden calf of warwick.
so encouraging to hear his disgruntlement with org-related topics.. “many in the christian congregation may not have expected their loved ones to die this side of armageddon.” (july 2017 study wt).

Confusedalot. That is what I can't understand. Every religion says they have the correct interpretation of the bible and all of them have been interpreted by mere mortals like ourselves. Why do so many allow themselves to be controlled like that.

I have friends who say they are in the AA group. They won't have children until after Armageddon. The more couples that think this way, the less you ones you will find.

family violence
by zeb inthis from the australian broadcasting commission (abc).. the aftershocks of the arc continue.. "thanks for your email, and for sharing some of your personal story.we are absolutely aware that violence exists in jehovah's witnesses families.
as this series is ongoing, we will be continuing to report on this issue for some time.
in the meantime, you might be interested to read the story of "jennifer" in a feature we published a few weeks back (link below).

I think when you are born into a happy JW family you can't even consider that these things happen in families in the truth.
Fact is that these sorts of things do happen in families from all religions and backgrounds. It's the mindset that you must not bring reproach on Jehovah's name by making it known or by getting out that compounds the problem.
BUT a person who treats the ones they love so badly surely cannot really believe in God and that he sees all and will judge you accordingly.

Return of the Dub (plus surprise guest)
by TerryWalstrom inreturn of the dub (plus surprise guest)dealing with just one frisky, bright-eyed jehovah’s witness is a handful.one on one is manageable.
two jw’s is more like juggling chainsaws or french kissing alligators.i had a return visit the other day and now, the jw was returning the 2nd time, but with another dub.what would my strategy be?
that’s how the day was spent.

This is why we used to prefer going to conventions we were not assigned to. It's much easier to listen to talks and experiences of people you don't actually know.
We had in our congregation a pioneer couple. Always crying poverty and somehow managing to get money etc from the brothers. One couple gifted them a car but they then pumped the generous couple for the money to pay the insurance. Then they managed to get a single pioneer sister to buy them new tyres for the car.
Eventually their money pumping ways became an issue and elders got involved. They moved congregations. 5 congregations later and numerous victims.
They used these two as an example in simplifing your life at a convention where he told us all that he could have been a millionaire but walked away for Jehovah and took up pioneering.
