a question after my first JW meeting
by bleak ini attended my first jw meeting recently.
first, i would like to say what i agree with about the jehovah's witnesses beliefs and practices.. 1. they don't consider israeli's as "god's chosen people" and they don't worship israel as some holy land filled with righteous jews (although there are some there) as most so-called "christians" (christian zionists) erroneously believe they are instead of the "hypocrites" and "vipers" that it is actually filled with.. 2. they don't celebrate "holidays" like easter and christmas which are, in fact, remnants of earlier pagan practices.. 3. they don't put nation before god and christ.
they don't believe in war or going to war because of some crazy government/cia secret agenda.

1. They consider themselves God's chosen people and only the JWs who attend the Kingdom Hall will survive Armageddon. 99.9% of the world's population are marked for destruction.
2. Easter and Christmas are out due to pagan links but wedding rings and shunning are acceptable even though pagan links exist.
3. Their Governing Body put themselves between you and God and Christ. No mention of a GB or faithful and discreet slave in John 14:6
4. Yes and they edit their Bible's to fit their control on the flock. See Micah 6:8 for example.
They pick and choose which bits are figurative or literal according to their current doctrine and how it best served to control the flock and keep them in the FOG (fear, obligation, guilt)
It is a prerequisite to think and act and look exactly as they say. Appearing before judges has nothing to do with it. Have you watched Judge Judy?
Until recently men were not allowed to have beards even though the good Lord gave them facial hair. Now they have an issue with tight pants. Ask them where these things are in their bible?

I agree that if you home school to cut your children off from the real world and "inculcate" them with your cult then the outcomes for the children will be inadequate.
I certainly would not be using the Bible as part of the curriculum.
Thankfully our system would not allow that. Having said that you can buy "Christian" versions of the curriculum and I know of ones who class witnessing as social skills training.

I don't know how homeschool works where you all are but as a homeschool mum myself I find some of the comments a bit harsh.
Homeschooling was not our first choice for our son but as a child with special needs we were left with no other option. School was his place of torture and high anxiety resulted.
Here the application process is lengthy. You must show how you will teach each aspect of the curriculum and list your resources. Yearly testing of the children and reviews are had. Every year you need to show how you will meet the curriculum and children must be present for reviews.
It's not a requirement but I completed a certificate 3 in education support and spent a year working in a school as a support officer before I was confident I could do it at home. Some of the home school mum's I have met are qualified teachers who could see their children would fall through the cracks and not get the education they deserve in a classroom of 30 with 1 over worked and stressed out teacher.
Not everyone homeschools to keep their children from socializing with wordly children and to control everything.
We have met a wonderful bunch of families in the same boat as us via a few Facebook pages and we all want our children to succeed in life and have found a great community to be part of.
We need to be careful not to make generalisations.

The Constant Mindchatter After You Leave
by pale.emperor ini've been out almost 2 years now and consider myself wide awake to watchtower propaganda and well on my way to recovery from the mental abuse we've all experienced.. one thing that just will not go is that i constantly think of jwism and watchtower and get myself all annoyed at their lies and blatant twisting of facts in their broadcasts and magazines.
it's so bad that it's the first thing i think of when i wake up, then i have these mental arguments in my head proving the jw teachings false and then getting annoyed because no jw will listen even if you tried to tell them.
i call this constant thinking and mental reasoning and mental arguing "mindchatter".

Oh my gosh! I was just saying to my husband that I am annoyed at how much of my day is spent thinking about the religion and my life in it. I think about more now than I ever did while I was still in the fog.
It annoys me so much. I wish it would just go away.

Just recently I was told about an extended family member, faded for years, dad an elder. Dad found out about worldly boyfriend so calls the elders and sets up a meeting for them and his daughter. Daughter DFd. Dad keeps his "humble service" position of elder daughter now shunned.
Every which way you look at it, shunning is the result.
If you have met your man's parents I would recommend talking to them and making them understand your situation.

Barbara Harrison
by Diogenesister inhas anyone read barbara harrison's book "visions of glory" ( 1978), and if so what did you think?.
apparently she is an exjw and feminist author, who used to write for ms magazine, who has a good reputation among scholars.
i'm surprised i haven't heard of her given that she seems to be fairly respected as an author and political commentator.. anyone have anything they can tell me about her please?.

End times "too late for you now" witnessing?
by CitizenofEarth inhello there.. i've heard it several times from different people while i was growing up, as well seen some people talk about it here on the forum.
the subject is the jw belief that a time will come before the end where they will change the message that jesus talked about, to one of damnation, where the world will be told something along the lines of "it is too late now".
do any of you have references to jw litterature where they write this?

They sure did say that and I remember thinking "crap, I hate witnessing now so I can't see myself doing that".
My mother is sure that the cutting back on publications is a sign that we are nearing the judgement message time. She is a ball of anxiety and nerves now. So sad to see her like that.

Governments should not under-estimate the potential danger-health that the G.B.pose for the community of Jehovah`s Witnesses
by smiddy3 inat that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.
all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.
its not such a big stretch of the imagination to think that jim jones or david koresh used such reasoning to convince their followers to do what they did, to have absolute faith in what they were saying was from god.

It could also just be another way of "dangling the carrot". Make it sound like they know something the rest of us don't. Anyone who was getting weary and ready to cool off will be perked up and back into "service" because it sounds like the end is near. Just more manipulation and lies.
