A Mathematic Perspective on Evolution

i would like to apologize in advance if any of my information on the biology side of this discussion is incorrect, because unfortunately it is not my strongest scientific subject on account of my being subtly encouraged to view it with distrust.. i've recently debated the of subject of evolution with my father, i made the argument that when viewed over several million years random mutation provides a more than adequate explanation for humans having evolved from a common ancestor with chimpanzees.

then he got this derisive look on his face a waved his hand saying "evolution's explanation for everything is the amount of time involved.".

so i decided i would examine this mathematically.

Why search for the alternative theory—we have experience and evidence. I supplied sperm and my wife supplied egg—and we have two children. We have not designed sperm or egg (which obviously means someone else designed it). When we speak about design, what comes first is the DNA the code of which fills me with astonishment. Someone who writes an instruction manual does so with purpose. In every cell of our bodies there exists a very detailed instruction code, much like a miniature computer program. As you may know, a computer program is made up of ones and zeros, like this: 110010101011000. The way they are arranged tell the computer program what to do. The DNA code in each of our cells is very similar. It's made up of four chemicals that scientists abbreviate as A, T, G, and C. These are arranged in the human cell like this: CGTGTGACTCGCTCCTGAT and so on. There are three billion of these letters in every human cell!!

Just like an employer directs his employees work, DNA instructs the cell. DNA is a three-billion-lettered program telling the cell to act in a certain way. It is a full instruction manual. One has to ask....how did this information program wind up in each human cell? These are not just chemicals. These are chemicals that instruct, that code in a very detailed way exactly how the person's body should develop. Natural, biological causes are completely lacking as an explanation when programmed information is involved. You cannot find instruction, precise information like this, without someone intentionally constructing it.

Other than Darwin’s Origin of Species which I read long back, I have long list of books I have read prominent among them are:

1) Theory of Island Biogeography (by E. O. Wilson and Robert MacArthur)

2) The Red Queen and Genome: A Species in 23 Chapters." (Matt Ridley)

3) The greatest show on Earth (by Richard Dawkins)

4) Selfish Gene (by Richard Dawkins)

5) Why Evolution is True (by Jerry A. Coyne)

My rating of these books is that writers are sincere people who believe first evolution as fact, and then search for evidence. But that doesn’t make them better than creationists. Besides I also read books written by Former Evolutionists who now believe in creation, and they all share this interesting view:

"The theory of evolution is not believed because of scientific evidence. It is believed DESPITE scientific evidence. Science is against the theory of evolution."

I have observed evolutionist and creationist, capitalist and communist, JWs and Catholics are arguing—they are all concerned with protecting their own interest, not facts.

However, arguments presented in this book are not convincing.

There is some depth in your argument. Unguided evolution and mutation succeeding against the all-pervasive force of entropy that rules the material world is really a more amazing miracle than creation. The only place where evolution makes sense is Bible because it presents a God who evolved:

1) He gave a garden of pleasure to first human couple—but they turned unfaithful

2) He flooded the earth and cleansed the earth of wickedness—yet Noah turned drunkard, cursed Canan that paved the way for slavery

3) He dried the Jordan river so that Israelites could take over the promised land and performed many other miracles—yet Israelites turned unfaithful

4) He sent His son who performed many miracles—yet people killed him

Such unappreciative acts made Him evolve into a God who decided that He would perform no more miracles

Sometime back he told me: “Working with a religion is like working in the office world. If someone wants to be better, that one needs to take classes, certifications, read books, gather concepts, ideas to talk the talk. It is all about gathering information. That does not work in ‘spirituality.’ Spirituality is being in harmony with the nature, living Life with joy. I could see CO feeling nervous because he was not trained to answer such questions. He was like a parrot byhearting what is in the WT publications. Whatever he tried to convey was vehemently counteracted to his shame. Then CO tried to change the subject saying ‘we have to see the overall guidance God provides, not in every minute details which are left to the individuals concerned.’ What you need to realize is that God has an organization on earth to give answers to very important questions pertaining to major subject such as “Why do we experience suffering if God exist? ….

Suffering occurs when people act thoughtlessly which proves things happen according to some law (perceptible or imperceptible), and existence of law means existence of law-giver. Suffering would help people to act thoughtfully in the future. Good and evil are just labels. Your own darkness is your capacity for light. Nothing is bad for those who know how to make use of every situation. Because you operate from your mechanical center you think pain is something that causes suffering. But people who operate from their dynamic center know that pain-mechanism in their body serves a useful purpose alerting us to avoid further harm. What a disaster it would be if we do not feel pain—we will not pull away our hand or any part of body when it gets burned or injured. Similarly, each type of suffering is a warning mechanism alerting us to avoid further harm or to avoid similar harm in the future.

Big picture shows all that is felt or transpires is neutral in nature and meant to balance the cosmic existence. Water, for example, is key for sustenance of life. Our body is almost 60% water/blood in a cycle of circulation. Fresh air is inhaled and stale air exhaled—you cannot say the former is good and the latter is bad. Medically, smooth functioning of the digestive system is an endorsement of wellness. See what happens when you feed your stomach with no discipline—it will alert you by giving you various symptoms to revert to an ordered life-style. Similarly, extreme weather conditions, floods or earthquakes, etc, causing torment, are in fact mind-boggling acts of ecological, geological and biological equilibrium. There is a definite purpose to all activities which are not too obvious to our present knowledge. The so-called good or bad is, thus, interwoven in myriad ways incomprehensible for many. Therefore, be it pleasure or pain all events are meant for sustenance of the infinite ladder of life. Whether individuals understand or not, underlying realities matter little in the super-scale of grand hierarchy.

Are there any doctrines which all Christian religions follow.

i cannot think of a single doctrine that is so clearly laid out in the bible that every christian sect teaches the same point.

are there any doctrine where there is total consensus amongst all christian religions, including jehovah's witnesses?.

Unanimity is in following the opposite of what Jesus said. For example,

1) Jesus said: “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” (Mathew 7:5). Yet all of the Christian sects understand this to be this way: ‘You the righteous ones, first increase the size of the plank that is in your own eye, and then you will see clearly the speck from your brother’s eye.’

2) Through the 3 ½ year direct training from Jesus, his disciples understood Jesus to be “the servant of God” (Acts 3:13) yet Christianity sees him as God himself with the exception of JWs who describe him as ‘a god.’
