After decades of trying to believe that a being created life on earth with predators and prey, but that in the future everything would miraculously change, and forcing myself to believe that everyone who was not a JW was going to die in a few years, including those in countries where they've never heard of JWs, and swallowing whole the teaching that all worldly people were selfish assholes but WE were great..... hmmm. What do I believe now? I believe I'll go have a beer and enjoy my life.

Overwhelmed
by Freedom rocks indoes anyone else feel overwhelmed on what to believe?.
i've been doing lots of research on beliefs, evolution, creationism but i feel no further forward about what i truly believe.
for example i looked at the fossil record and tiktaalic and thought great it proves a lot but then i've seen counter arguments on youtube of people basically saying its a load of rubbish and doesn't prove anything.

Critical thinking
by Freedom rocks inwhat kind of questions would you use to get a child'scritical thinking skills going from a young age with regards to the bible/god/jesus/anything to do with the religion??.
my most hated answer jws gave to people when they said you can't see god so how do you know he exists was "well you can't see electricity or gravity but you know they exist".
sorry but that doesn't prove god exists.

If the flood happened a little over 4000 years ago, and all of the animals climbed out of the ark at Mt. Ararat...how did all of the kangaroos, wallabies, etc. get to an island continent and not leave a trace of themselves anywhere else?
If the animals were created to live in peace and the lion will eat straw just like the bull, why do the big predators have teeth for ripping and the instinct to hunt and chase their prey?
If (formerly?) randy old King David had the blue pills, would Abishag have continued a virgin laying in his lap? (This one was what REALLY got me to thinking hard about what I had been taught. Thank you, Joseph Heller!)

Anyone know the significance of the three days and nights Jesus is dead?
by Crazyguy inin my studies i’ve come to realize that most dying and rising gods such as inanna, jesus and others all were dead three days and nights.
the moon is dead as far as man not being able to see it in the sky three days and nights but many of these gods are not associated with the moon, osiris maybe being the only exception.
have any of you in your research come up with a plausible idea on why there all dead just threes days and three nights?.

I've always had a problem understanding the number of the wild beast of Revelation. It reads that this number is "six hundred sixty-six". And the WT says that "6" stands for earthly imperfection. So 666 would be earthly imperfection three times. But when John supposedly wrote the book, what did the number six hundred sixty-six actually look like? Neither Roman nor Greek numerals would have allowed for three digits of "6". So what the hell significance could "666" have with earthly imperfection cubed?

Funny occurrences

a few of mine:.
- a brother had dyed his hair before his talk and it was raining heavily when he arrived at the hall and the dye was running down his face during his talk and his skin went more and more grey as the black dye ran down it.

-When we were very young and my father had just begun attending meetings (he went before mom did), he would usually bring one or two of us with him. During the talk, my younger brother had to go to the bathroom, so my dad walked him back. Dad was very interested in hearing the talk, so he stood outside of the bathroom with his foot holding the door open, that way he could hear my brother when he was finished. Problem was, my dad is deaf in one ear. So, while he was concentrating on the talk, he didn't hear what the rest of the congregation heard. "Dad, I'm finished. Come wipe me." "DAD! I'm do-one! Come wipe my butt!"

-ME letting out a rather loud fart on a wooden chair in the middle of a living room where my dad was conducting the Congregation Book Study. I was so embarrassed. An older brother was staring daggers at me from across the room while my two younger brothers were attempting to hold in their laughter. My dad was torn between laughing, correcting my brothers, and trying to keep a straight face in front of the group.
-A future Gilead graduate from my hall using an illustration about popcorn to describe the remnant of the 144,000. He said (among other things) "Jehovah likes popcorn. Has his own special brand. Called the 'King-Priest Brand popcorn'." And the ones who were still remaining on Earth "just haven't popped yet." I had to go to the back of the hall in one of the auxiliary rooms because I was literally on the floor with tears coming out of my eyes. My belly hurt from laughing so hard.
-A brother commenting during the WT study about "dungy idols" used a quick succession of two illustrations to show how disgusting they were. He had us imagine walking barefoot through the yard and stepping in dog shit, and it squishing through our toes. As bad as that was....he went further. He said it was like when your fingers push through the paper....
I have many more. Forty years of attending meetings will collect a lot of events.

"Baz" for short.

Were You Close To Your Non JW Family?

i recently inquired about ancestry.com and i’ve come to the realization that even the closest sides of my family via my father, are unknown to me .
what a shame that jehovah’s witnesses kept us apart.

I have 12 aunts and uncles on my father's side. Four on my mother's. Over 50 first cousins. Yet I know very little about most of them. When my parents became JWs in 1972, they began to convert some of their siblings. Two of my dad's sisters, two brothers, and one brother on my mom's side. Their children were the only cousins we got to know. And because half of those families were considered "weak" in the faith, we spent precious little time with them. My family just alienated the rest of everyone else.
I'm in the process of trying to connect to my extended family through social media, but it will never be what it could have been. If there was one thing that is a "positive" from my parents' training me to be aloof and distant from those I should be close to, it's the fact that even though I love mom and dad, I am able to deal with not having any contact with them now. It's a little more difficult to deal with not having a relationship with my grown children. But the fact that they are PIMI is on me. I did that.

Cotton wool jws
by purrpurr inthere was a talk i heard recently given by a top bethel bro, he was complaining that the type of young jws that have been joining bethel in recent years has been totally unfit for work or even life.
he called them "cotton wool jws" as he says that the parents of these young ones have kept them so sheltered from life that by the time they are of age to strike out on their own they are completely unable to cope socially, emotionally, mentally and that they have no practical life's skills or instincts of common sense or responsibility.
he said that the brothers at bethel have to work at peeling off the layers of cotton wool these ones have come wrapped in and that often when exposed to the reality of life away from mummy they quite literally go running back home.. for once i actually agree with a brother on the platform, i've met many a young teen or young adult whose life has been one long warm bath as it were.

So, kids in the world don't know how or want to work hard. JW kids don't know how or want to work hard. So how are JW parents raising better kids than the worldly parents? And yes, JW kids tend to be so sheltered that they cannot cope with normal pressure when they grow up. They are doubly-screwed because they cannot get a good education that will allow them not to have to perform hard manual labor.
