i want to thank jehovah's witnesses new world bible translation committee for changing the words, "mentally diseased" as found in the 1984 edition of the nwt, to "obsessed with arguments," as found in 1 timothy 6:4 in the 2013 revised nwt.. on february 6, 2012, david splane, the overseer of the watchtower's writing department received an open letter from me which i posted below especially for new posters.

the topic of my letter was in response to the writing department's statement that ..."apostates are mentally diseased" in their july 15, 2011 watchtower.

the 1984 edition of the new world translation reads:.

Am I wrong or did he explained that the doctrinal change about the faithful slave (that it was not all the anointed on earth anymore but only the governing body) was caused by the threat of them losing their financial assets ?

If that’s the case, that’s truly amazing (even tho not surprising) !

I was already laughing at them for figuring out dozens of years late who was the real source of divine direction, but that... it’s a whole new level !

many people attack, doubt and fault god's word.

yet god has made several promises in his word.he promised to preserve his word unto every generation,he promised that every word would be truth,he promised that we can rely and depend on his every word.satan wants nothing more than to dismiss, and cast doubt on god's word... so the question today is... do we have god's preserved word today?

Even if he actually preserved his word today, we cannot deny the fact that his « word » is a total mess.

If he had a message to convey to us, he did the worst job. The Bible is a gigantic mess, talking about useless bizarre stories, saying something and its contrary and most of all being totally open to all kinds of interpretations about its actual meaning.

What kind of father would communicate in such a poor way with his children and be proud of it ?

What kind of father would destroy his children because they couldn’t solve his absurde and incomprehensible riddle ?

talking to my friend who's an elder, when i asked him did the leadership ever attempt to apologize for the 1975 prediction fiasco he said they did.

They only regret that some people took it seriously. They are the one who forgot that the number one rule being a JW is to fake that you know better but in fact act just like everyone else.

How the Borg could increase meeting attendance numbers

i think that the 8 popes should allow the jdubs to count time driving to the meetings or even count their time being at the meetings.

those who just listen over the phone can't count their time.. it would be a much better religious cult if the 8 self-licking ice cream popes would let their followers count their time for helping the elderly in the kingdumb haul with stopping by to have coffee, shopping, cleaning, cutting grass, etc.

let them count time by visiting the friends in nursing homes, maybe even allow double the hours for the nursing home visits.. this probably ain't going to happen because the cart work is easier..

Well here’s an interesting quote then :

By your having part in the advertising of the meeting and aiding new ones present, the Lord has arranged for you to count the hour spent attending the lecture, and that alone is four hours per month. Travel time of a maximum of one hour per day (if that much time is consumed traveling) can be counted also. (Informant May 1945)

But it seems like the Lord changed his mind and now you can’t count your time attending the public talk... Too bad !

i was watching lloyd evans rebuttal to the saturday program of the be courageous convention.

lloyd pointed out something that had occurred to me as well:.

all this talk and examples of courage, whether it be standing up in class defending intelligent design, putting up with being imprisoned, not running away from bullies, always having a reply to someone who tries to ridicule your faith... the young ones are encourages - nay, commanded - to stand their ground and be courageous.

Doubter, what about 1 Peter 3:15 then ?

If they are not able to answer questions politely and respectfully even without overlapping (even though they love overlapping stuff, right ahah), then what king of Christians are they ?

As anointed christians, they are supposed to be the leaders in the preaching activity. They are supposed to fight the fight more than anyone, contrary to the army general you’re talking about.

It’s so simple, it almost looks like it’s bullshit. Like, who would ever have thought of such a stupid thing, had they not been ~~inspired~~ guided by God’s spirit !

To me it’s the ultimate proof that it’s God’s organization ! /s

People in the congregation have a hard time understanding it because they don’t understand why the sense of the word generation is distorted this way. It’s like trying to understand why someone, while showing you a cat, is telling you that it’s a dog and even reads the definition of what a dog is in the dictionnary as a proof. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s a cat that you see. But when you believe that person is inspired by God and that they would never lie to you, you feel like you are the problem for not understanding it and that you’re not as worthy as them. This is what people who don’t understand this teaching feel like.

right behind them, a white horseman appears with a bow and arrow shooting at the armed men.

Impact of GDPR on WT HQ and EU branches?

curious if any of our eu-based members (especially those still in) have heard anything from official wt channels on how the organisation plans to be in compliance with gdpr ("general data protection regulations") by may 2018?

it's my understanding that religious organisations must comply, and that religious data is treated a "protected" and therefore subject to some enhance requirements.. specifically, how will they comply with the following requirements:.

you must disclose to the individual: what data you collect on them, why, and what you do with the data (including what other parties receive the data and what they do with it).

I’m pretty sure most of the elders don’t even think about looking at the legal aspect of the matter or try to understand how they should (legally) act when trying to get the consents signed.

They only see these consents forms as a way to show submission to the WT and something that you should be thinking about no more than a few seconds. I would even go as far as saying that this is treated as some kind of new light and not even as a legal matter.

They’re only satisfied and used to say Yes! when the WT asks something and to consider those who don’t as rebellious and not as good as them.

This lack of thinking will produce the kind of behavior you talk about @AverageJoe1. They could face a lot of trouble legally if those words were recorded.

Woah can you tell us a little more about that ? How was the situation handled ? When you talk about shaming, is it publicly or during an elders meeting only ?

How were their privileges removed ? Are they allowed to do anything in the hall, during the CLAM for example ?

I’m really interested because I don’t wanna sign it either and I wonder a lot about the consequences...
