well at a recent meeting my df friend decided to show up to check this brother out.
The single guy probably thinks he can pretend the disfellowshipped guy is dead.
The single guy may find himself having his ass kicked by a "ghost."
Hopefully there won't be two or more witnesses to this supernatural event.
I think those two witnesses would say they "didn't see nothin'".

i've always wondered about this.
when a person believes they made a spiritual connection with god and proclaims themselves as anointed, how do they determine whether this person is anointed or not.
does a group of elders look at the person's spiritual resume and check off the person's pioneer stats, bible knowledge, attendance, work ethic, personality, etc and then believe in the person if they have a good track record?
I can't say I have, @Nathan Natas. So 20 years before I was born, there was a great excitement over a lot of hot air, eh?

@David_Jay, I'm gonna ramble a little bit here... I should do more research in those areas, but there will always be plenty that I just won't know. It's lost to me.
To think, too, that if I were to go back tens of thousands of years, eventually I could find ancient relatives who were... (Gasp!) Neanderthal. This is a hominid species that is mostly lost to time and history, but that evidently did have intelligence and intuition and emotion about them. At the same time, I could find Sapien relatives migrating throughout Europe, as well as their family in Africa. On the Western hemisphere, I might even track down some ancient family (I'm honestly not sure if ancient Native Americans would be considered Denisovan or another variant).
And in fact, since Sapiens evidently came from Africa, I have read some about African origins of religion. Really fascinating stuff.
At some point, a lot of things happened and a lot of people died and a lot of cultures passed, and I am alive today. And my wife? Black and Mexican. I want our kids to have culture, and not a culture of fear and indoctrination... Just some mythology, history, and a good humanist philosophy to live by.
But anyway, circumcisions. :P

I'm certain those of us here understand that the Bible is not to be taken literally. When it is, it's ridiculous, horrendous, and self-satirical.
Ya know, @David_Jay, it bothers me that I know less about Irish or Cherokee lore than I do about lore from the Middle East and Egypt. That really does bother me lately as we discuss these things.

imagine you are on the governing board of a religious organisation with around eight million subscribers and an annual income of approximately a $billion (well it used to be!).
you are about to be handed a mass of legal cases against you for concealing your negligent practice of concealing paedophiles in your congregations---followed by the prospect of a cascade of damning publicity?
do you admit you were wrong and apologise unreservedly?.
I think resigning would we one option and leave the others to sort the mess out.
There must be some reason Samuel Herd hasn't done so yet. Whatever he does or doesn't believe, how long can you make a guy go on camera as a televangelist if he's reluctant to do so?

by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.
Oh ffs.....
