Nope. How long is a creation day? Do we really expect trees to lay dormant for thousands or millions of years? Or do we really believe the earth was made in 6 24-hour days 6000 years ago?

yup, 2 elders from my old hall.
i figured they were fishing for some time so i invited them in and gave them some coffee and we talked about everything that happened and why we walk away from the jw's.

Good to hear it. I'm fairly new on this site myself and recently faded after years of growing doubts and failing rationalizations.

No, we certainly care. The JW experience deserves to be talked about and expressed and dispelled. However, we're not really not talking about your experience as a JW... We're talking about an aspect of the theology which you readily smashed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Well done.
There are plenty of topics like this one on here, so I wouldn't put too much weight on the dismissal.

I don't do that, um, specifically, but I do, say, watch, and read whatever I want everyday. Like a person.
It's good to be out, isn't it?

so where did they get the commission to give the ‘go preach’ decree from?
For what it's worth, I do like your reasoning in the OP, and I also agree with scratchme. So do you. Seriously, who cares?
That commission comes from whomever taught whomever that this applies to them in their day. It continues as we speak, and it's nonsense. It's also made and lost millions, and the WTBTS is quite clearly in the real estate business under a nonprofit religious corporation.
Yep, preaching work's over. It was never necessary to begin with.

Bible supports evolution
by anointed1 inthe thread that runs through the details of bible is evolution.. .
1) a nation believes that they are god’s chosen people and rest of the world is pagan.
when the history unfolds, the so-called chosen people go under occupation by the so-called pagans.

I mean... The very idea of "the light gets brighter" implies evolution, just not in the biological sense. The root is the Latin volvere, or "to roll out or unfold".
Does the Bible support biological evolution? Ehhh, if you squint hard enough, you can see things in any picture that a passing viewer might miss, but you're probably just reinterpreting it. Global flood? Anybody? Yeah, no.

(For the record, this is a ghost post that never seemed to make it out of the "Queued for Processing" phase. I shook my head and tried again the next morning. Hours after that, and here it is.)

So the sun and stars (as if the sun isn't a star or is even a particularly large star) are created after the "light" and after vegetation. And they're in the "firmament". What's the firmament? Or "expanse"? The Insight book endorses an unscientific "water canopy" around the earth, but the Babylonian cosmos shows that the firmament was not unlike the ceiling of a snow globe. That is how they saw the world.

Genesis 1New King James Version (NKJV)The History of Creation
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was[a] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry landEarth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, andthe fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.”21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all[b] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there islife, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

I found this at Goodwill and I want to burn my eyes out a little.Camping predicted September 15, 1994 as the end of history in his 1992 book ingeniously titled "1994?" He pulled the same thing for December of 2011 of course, and here we are.So why did I get it? Well, I got that and Volume 2 of The Mahabharata. Call me eclectic. But I also wanted to compare Camping's calculations with Watchtower's as well as other Millerite calculations. I don't care what the calculations are. They're obviously bullshit. But I see something in common already.- "Let scripture interpret scripture."
- A personal god and personal devil.
- "We're in the end times!!!1"
- Science is subordinate to the Bible.
- Stuff about Daniel and Revelation, etc.
Camping very plainly predicted the end of the world multiple times in his text as September of 1994, and again in his conclusion. And in his conclusion, he wrote that he could have possibly missed something, though he wasn't sure what that could be as he was so thorough in his research.I have an idea what it could be, Camping. I think I have a pretty good idea.Maybe, just maybe, the Bible isn't actually the inspired word of God you profess it to be. Maybe it isn't superior to science after all.Just maybe.
