Endure or Enjoy??
by stuckinarut2 inhave we ever noticed how witnesses are constantly being told that life is something that needs to be "endured", rather that "enjoyed"?.
life is always so tough, so hard, so difficult in "these last days".
"persecution and trials abound".

Are you accusing witnesses of negative thinking?
As Fisherman alluded, it ties right in with the supposedly finite end times. Keep your eyes on the prize. Endure. If it were accepted that life goes on and there were no future phase of history to look forward to, it'd be less about endurance and more about living life.

What would you say to the HH if you could?
by purrpurr inok so there's no other jws in earshot and your on the ministry, the hh comes to the door, what would you say to them about jws if you could?.
would you explain why your there when you don't want to be?.
would you warn them about it being a cult?.

Anyway when I was "out in service" while disillusioned, I just gave up and let the lady at the door say whatever she wanted. I just listened. I figured that was far more interesting and effective, whatever the effect might be.
I do not at all value my days as a door-to-door millenarian creationist.

Sparlock is making his rounds again
by stillin ini was at the meeting last night and the dreadful video about caleb and sparlock was forced upon the audience.
honestly, i had forgotten how bad it was.
the mother's manipulative over-reaction and caleb's acceptance that his toy was evil.

Re: your wife's mistaken belief that Sparlock is a real thing... Right around the time the iPhone came out, there was a circuit assembly (or special day assembly? I can never remember, same shit) where they warned about electronic devices. They gave a demonstration about a new device called the "GR8". Obviously a fictitious example, yeah?
Afterward, my mom wagged her finger and warned me not to get this "GR8". It was apparently bad, and wrong.
She also made my brother throw out his Star Wars toys' guns. I love ya mom... but jeez.

Infinity versus nothing
by Fisherman insome people like to believe in something others believe in nothing; so in what location did the substance that expanded into the time/space universe exist before the big bang?
where did the energy that caused the big band come from?
how did the substance that became the big bang change from being inert and sterile and come to life to having the properties and drive that it does?

It's quite a leap from deism to JWism.

Just add two words at the end: "Was it designed by magic?"

Making life and death/life altering decisions based on commands from someone you're not sure exists
by jambon1 instraight from the off, i will say that i'm 100% atheist.
i have no faith.
however, it occurred to me while thinking back over my involvement with the jw religion and especially when i take into account personal and family situations where people have made life altering choices due to being jw's, just how crazy it really is.

How much money people usually donate to WT ?
by Bardamu ini grew up in the org and never got baptised, however i was wondering recently about how much money my family and old friends are wasting in all that.
.
i remember of course never talking in amounts, that it was important to give from what you can not what you have etc but i admit i have no clue how much the average witness gives (say in % of their income).. i'm sure it varies greatly, i'd love to hear what you guys have to say..

I think it's funny now that I never donated by check or counted it on my taxes. Always cash. Because I was afraid that I might be persecuted.
