A hamburger tree - love it! I knew my comment would bring reactions, was looking forward to them, you guys are funny! BTW, note, I said "wild animals". Also, I would argue that the animals raised for food die the quick death, not necessarily those that are hunted. And you're stealing a good life from a wild animal, whereas those raised for food are not necessarily living a good life and you're maybe doing them a favour by killing them.

Feeling bitter this morning. That's "bitter" not "better" I was just thinking about what tipped me over the edge, what woke me up. I had my husband and an intake worker at the counselling centre ask me that and I didn't have a handy answer. Now I remember what it was - we were soon going to have to go around proclaiming the above noted message. Now I always hated service! But "You and everyone you love and everyone in the whole world (except for us wonderful righteous JW's who are going to survive and live on a paradise earth) are shortly going to die a horrible terrible terrifying painful death at the hands of Jehovah God and be dead forever more. See, like in this picture! And you can't do anything about it now. Too bad, so sad!" How could anyone in their right mind think that was an okay thing to do?
If a JW comes to you and tells you that, what will be your reply?
I think it's sad that my husband believes that, and thinks that people deserve to be killed that way because they didn't listen. No, "sad" isn't the word, "disgusting" is closer. And "frightening". He'll say: "Jehovah has the right to do anything he pleases. Who are you to question God?" And he has grown children and grandchildren. I know you're supposed to respect people's beliefs, but really?! No, I can't respect that!
Oops, this came around to my marriage again didn't it? I don't believe that it's okay to kill for people to kill wild animals if they eat the meat, when we can just go to the nearest grocery store and buy meat. My husband doesn't agree, he likes to hunt. I don't like or respect that about him. I simply don't. Now we have different religious beliefs and I don't respect his beliefs - I don't just disagree with his beliefs, I don't respect him for having them. He's right when he says I sound disdainful when we talk about the brothers and the governing body and the beliefs.
If anyone has managed to follow my meanderings thus far, I DO have a question if you care to comment - how do those of you who have partners who are "in" do it? Those who have seen absolutely no sign, no hope that their partners will ever change their ideas? And you can't talk about it or reason with them on it - they just don't want to hear it! He said at the beginning of all this, during one of our first arguments, that he thought I'd decide I didn't want to be married to a JW. I don't know, maybe he's right, or maybe it's just the KIND of JW he is!
So there you have it!

Woman's Purpose
by StopTheTears ini'm probably going to say some things here that will disappoint many.
there are some that may look back over the years and say "man i really blew it" i'm not writing the following to scold for failures, but rather to help those who are young enough to put into practice what god wills for their life, and also to those of us who are in our middle years that still have time to change some things, in order to please god and find a peace that only being in his will can bring.
first let me say that god didn't create man for you.

Continuum of an Exit
by zarco ina few random thoughts about my continuum.
did your exit follow this process?
doubts – this is tough phase because the mind begins and then continues to prove to itself through logic and facts that the “truth ain’t the truth”.
-
LifesNotOver
I WISH! Sounds like a lovely place to be, Zarco. Paradise on earth! My plan is to get as close to this place as I possibly can while still married to an active JW. If it should happen that I'm no longer married to this active JW, I'm out faster than ... well, faster than I don't know what ... so I'm a "Wannabe ex-EX-JW". I'm still working on how this is going to look in my life going forward. Oh, and yes, my exit is following the process you described - well said!

Hottest Topics - New Sort by Rank Option
by Simon ini have just enabled a new sort feature which should appear as a new tab called "rank" on any of the topic listing pages (by forum or subject within it).. there's also a "hottest" link in the main nav.. what does it do?.
well, think of it like active topics ... the latest things go to the top.
except instead of anyone being able to make something go straight to the top simply by posting on it, now the ranking is based on a combination of things including how many likes and dislikes they have received combined with when the posts were made.. what should happen is that likes for new posts will give them a boost as will replies but over time their effect will diminish.

Colin, might I make a suggestion? That is to make sure in your own mind (and your partner's) what your beliefs are before you involve your children? Could save them a whole lot of hurt and confusion. You sound like a smart man and I'm sure you've already considered that, just saying ...
Not my business, but happy to hear you've discontinued the study and the meetings. And the Bible book for kids disturbed me as an adult. I never did send it to my grandchildren (parents not JW's) - so glad I didn't!

Keep the meeting going! (even if somebody's dying)
by TimeBandit inthis is a true story.
it's about a sister named henriette venema.
she was a very loyal jw.

Thank you TimeBandit and all the others! Whenever I start to think that maybe I wasn't all that adversely affected by my time in the cult, something like this comes up that reminds me of all the head-nodding-in-agreement I did at things that went on, when my heart and soul was crying NO!NO!NO! something is very wrong with these people! And I'm so ashamed for being so untrue to myself. And being so cowardly not to speak up.
It's called brainwashing, but it doesn't render a person braindead, and that's why they're losing so many people because people still have the capacity to think for themselves when they finally give their head a shake. They say not to trust your heart, that it's treacherous. They'll do the feeling for you. They say not to trust your head, they'll do the thinking for you. Oh, it's like, "don't worry your pretty little head".
Where am I going with this? Rambling, sorry. LifesNotOver
