I once read that even the Sumerians dated their rulers in hundreds of years. Saragon for example was suppose to have lived for hundred of years according to what they have found written abut him.The theory behind this (If I remember correctly) may be that they did not count years as we do, but perhaps by seasons instead. So a person living 50 years would infact be 200 seasons old.

Ok so you left the idea of God - what would it take to come back?
by Qcmbr inone point that has played many times on my mind (and is fairly central to my world view) is that if god exists its up to him to prove it.
what would it take for you to accept god?
starters for ten: .

A personal apperence would do a lot twords making me think about it, but not enough to convince me that he/she/it is any thing more then a being that has power that we don't. Even after the appearence they woould h avee to show me why I should worship them, and it cannot be because I'm more powerful then you. They need to be deserving of worship, hell that's like my boss telling me I need to worship him or he'll fire me, or the BIG guy down the street gonna beat me up if I don't, that just ain't gonna happen.

Did God lie about Satans rebellion to justify his own actions?
by jeanniebeanz inkeeping in mind that his followers malign the reputation of departing witnesses regardless of their reasons for leaving, do you think that god made up lies about satan's motivations for rebelling in order to justify his own harsh course of action?.
just a rambling thought this morning.

I've often thought about the "Deception" that Satan was suppose to have played on Eve, but now lets look at it a bit more closely.
God said, If you eat from it that day you shall surely die (not a direct quote but the concept of what he said)
Satan said, No you will not die, but will gain the knowlege of good and evil (bad) and be like gods (in knowlege of course).
After the "sin" God said Look they have become like one of us.
So.......... who told the lie?
They didn't die that very day, and they gained knowlege of good and bad.............Hmmmmmmmmmmm

The good news of the kingdom prevents suicide?
by JH inan elder once told me that many worldly people commit suicide because they don't know the good news of the kingdom.
with all the bad news in the world, he said, many just give up and don't want to keep on living.. personally, i know a few jw's who committed suicide.
it wasn't because they didn't know anything about the kingdom, but because they weren't happy being a jw.. i wonder if the jw's saved more people from suicide, with their good news, or did more people commit suicide because of them?

There have been quite a few other topics along this line. the research that has been shown is that depression and mental illness is much higher in the WT then in the general world. I would venture to guess that suicide would go along the same course as depression and such.

Being the Catholics put the bible together to begin with, I would think they would be the experts on the meaning, ofcourse until the Watchtower came along, they speak directly to Jehovah so they gotta have it right

The Watchtower does not teach the 6,000 year old earth idea, they at the least say the earth is 12,000 years old, with the thought that each creative day may not be concurent. in otherwords god could have skipped a few thousand years between creative days. so that could make the earth as old as anyone wants to make it sound. The Watchtower however does say that Adam lived just over 6,000 years ago making mankind only about 6,000 years old. But someone forgot to tell that to the bones they've found and been able to date.

Jebus would have to come to me, in person (no dreams no visions, I get those with enough Nutmeg in my cerial) and tell me himself that he really is who the bible says he is and that the WTS is his BOrg on earth, until such time I remain a total unbeliever.

a book by Lee Stroebel called Case For Christ. he was an investigative journalist who set out to disprove the bible and the more he researched the more he gathered undeniable historical proof for the authenticity of the uncorruped Old and New Testaments
OH BOY!!!! Fresh meat I've read some of stroebel's stuff, Not much educated work went into it in my opnion. If he'd really done the research and study he would have come up with a totally different thought on the bible then he puts across, that is unless he really wanted to prove the bible rather then disprove it. Most of his arguements are weak and vauge with little or no evidence, outside of suspected forged documents and controversal findings.

Is religion the real reason for many wars?
by Pole ina lot of posters on this board have expressed the opinion that religion is the reason for many wars.
some have even implied that if religion was "banned" the number of wars would be reduced.

Up until the "Christian era, wars were not based on any religious ferver, but an expansion of an empire. Most of the pagan religions really didn't care what or who you worshipped until the Christians said you had to worship the only "True" god of the bible.
