there has been much said about the watchtower saying that the end would come in 1975. i have never seen any evidence that the watchtower said the end would definitely come in 1975. if there was such evidence, there would certainly be little or no witnesses left today, i believe.

i do not believe that excuses the fact that they definitely put that idea in peoples heads.

i was 10 years old then.

You are correct in saying they never said it was "For sure coming in fall of 1975". But there are a few things you have to consider.

First off, they encouraged it and even pressed it to the R/F JW's. They told people to not get a higher education becasue time was too short and it would be better off spent preaching the "Good News" rather then learing a carrier. The encouraged people to sell their belingings and spend the rest of the "Old System", again, Preaching the "Good News". At the assemblies, and in the publications they actually put on the aires of a fervor of how short the time was. With titles like "Why are looking forward to 1975?" and such, building up the heated movement to look to that date.

If you actually go back in time and listen to the talks given at the District Assemblies on the subject, the enthusiasm and promotion they did to that date was a real build up, not just a sugestion.

People I remember were either selling their properties and going where "The need was greater" or pioneering, or they were buying up things because they KNEW they would not have to pay for them, because the end was so near.

If the WTS did not beleive it to be true, then they caught a ride on the fervor and used it ot their advantage, I fell it was actually both. They made a suggestion, that sounded good and rode it out all the way to the end encouraging it all the way. Then turned around and blamed everyone else for getting to caught up in the date.

Here is a copy of one talk I remember being given by a District Overseer about the date of 1975, he does not say "The End will come" but listen to the enthusiasm in his voice when he recommends that it might.

The only thing he says for sure with a full definate is that the 6,000 years of mankind ends in 1975, but also how great it will be that maybe god will end every thing at the same time.

So you are correct to a point, but they did want that date to stand out and pushed it as though it was "The End".

I remember something in an article somewhere that said the samething about blacks, I don't know if it was in the WTS publications or not, but I know it used some scientific info that some dips*** came up with, that was almost identical to this 10% smaller brian ect.

Try the Olmec or Toltec Ball game.

The game is played with the winner only scoring one goal. However the ball may not hit the ground, and may not be touched with the hands. The court is two walls with a ring set high up on each wall. the ball must go through the ring thus scoring the only point of the game. These games would often go on for days,until a score was made. The winner was honerd, and the losers were sacrificed to the gods.

Maryvale congregation Phoenix AZ 1969 until early 1974
Hutchinson MN 1974-1976
Breckenridge TX 76-78
Hutchinson again 78
Lamberton MN 79-80
Hutchinson again 80
Blue Earth MN 81-82 started drifting away
Back to Hutchinson in 82 and really didn't get back in the groove, I was out soon after.

We moved to Litchfield MN in 83, my then wife went to the Litchfield MN KH, where she currently still is, I never went there at all. But that is the congregation that DF'd me.

JW Rules That Are Just "Too Much"!

i'm curious: what rules have you dealt with that were just "too much" -- whether they were "official" (i.e.

in print) or not?.

i think a good, general one is r-rated movies.

The two most DANGERIOUS rules I can think of is the shunning and the blood issue.

The shunning is given to a person at a time when they areoften at their lowest pointin life, I have seen so many people that were depressed at the time of their DF'ing or became depressed due to it. These one often need the support of their friends and family, but are hencforth cut off from among them, it is as stupid a rule and can be.

The Blood issue, even the WTS has admitted that many of the JW's have sacrificed their lives over the blood rule. How stupid to have a rule so binding that it has caused the deaths of hundreds perhaps thousands around the world. When the Jews commited a sin against this law at a time of extream life threatening situations they were not cut off they were forgiven. This rule is the most dangerious of all in my opnion.

Oh Too much type of rules OHHHH LOL???!!! he he.
I would have to say the college, and bedroom activities, they make themselves sound like middle ages Catholic church prests. during the middle ages Euorpe,if you were found out to have sex in any other position then the missionary one they would burn you at the stake. I guess that's one way of shunning isn't it?
