Is it wrong to change your religion?
by stuckinarut2 inis it wrong to change your religion or abandon beliefs you were once taught?.
let this article help you decide.... http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/102009251.
clearly, no one should be shunned, or mistreated if they discover facts about their former faith....

"For example, any teaching that truly originates with God must be in harmony with his personality, including his dominant quality of love.—1 John 4:8."
Shunning family members, even encouraging kicking out teenagers and ignoring their phone calls, shaming repentant people attending meetings for 'many months, a year, or longer', telling children God will be happy and resurrect them if they refuse a blood transfusion, not encouraging reporting child abusers to the police because it may make the organization look bad or 'drag Jehovah's name through the mud', discouraging proper education. Not allowing vaccinations, organ transplants and making people choose between prison or shunning over non combatant government service then never apologizing about all the lives that have been ruined ........sounds like either a really shitty God or a really shitty religion....Just saying.

Oh no Dan 2.44 is being fulfilled. My ex told me so it must be true.
by KateWild inso my 14 yr old son and i are sitting discussing the eu election vote, and joking around that the we could see a future with donald trump and boris johnson being the uk and us leaders.
we were swapping pictures and jokes from facebook.. but his dad is sitting there waiting until we leave, and comes out with "well daniel 2.44" which reads.......... "and in the days of those kings the god of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin.
and the kingdom itself will not be passed onto any other people.

I find the part about shunning inactive ones very disturbing, I know there have been comments on this forum that this is nothing new and that's true to an extent, but the level of importance they are giving to shunning combined with NEVER criticizing the org says it all.
Consider this paragraph from a recent WT -
In congregations of Jehovah’s people today, it is very unlikely that we would be treated unjustly. However, those taking the lead among us are imperfect men and could misinterpret our actions. (1 Sam. 1:13-17) If we are ever misjudged or misunderstood, let us remain loyal to Jehovah.
So there is literally no good reason to ever leave or even criticize the org/congregation, and anyone who does can now fall into the category of serious sin and likely be shunned. The message is clear and I for one am very disturbed.

More misleading content on JW.org
by Anders Andersen inwhat is “the end of the world”?the phrase “the end of the world,” which appears in many bible translations, can also be rendered as “the conclusion of the system of things,” or “the close of the age.” (matthew 24:3;english standard version) it refers, not to the destruction of the earth or of all humanity, but to the end of the framework of human society.—1 john 2:17.. conveniently leaving out that according to current numbers and doctrine, 8.000.000 people will survive at max.. technically is not a destruction of all humanity....but it comes so close it deserves to be mentioned.. of course it isn't mentioned, because that would sound so extreme, cultish and unkind.
we wouldn't want people to get the right ideas about jw.organization now, would we?.

'It refers, not to the destruction of the earth or of all humanity'
Just the 99.9% of humanity that don't attend a kingdom Hall......well that's cleared that up then.

If An Organization Really Believed It Had the Truth...
by xjwsrock in....it would not be scared of critics.
actually they would naturally take an offensive stance, wouldn't they?
they would welcome debate... even encourage it.

Very very good, it's the kind of reasoning I've been trying to use with my wife and you've summed it up brilliantly. -

What to say? I Don't want to go to meetings anymore?
by Drifting Away inso it has been a couple of months since me and my family have attended a meeting.
we have received a few calls and visits.
but what do you say when people ask "where have you been"?

I've been asked recently why I've stopped going on field service, I replied that my conscience won't allow me after I learned some things about the org but I don't want to discuss it as I don't want to give anybody else cause for doubt about the 'truth'.
I'm hoping that response will plant some seeds.

Jehovah protects his people. Did he ever protect you?
by TimeBandit inhello forum.
i started this topic because i had been thinking recently about a story that i had heard many times in different congregations over the years.
kind of a jw urban legend if you will.

Well said, I also hate the idea that when Jah protects it's all about him and his name, like with the Israelites at the red sea or the three Hebrews saved from the fire. So basically he'll only protect if he gets all the credit and looks brilliant!
So pioneers get petrol money cos they credit all the praise to Jah but child abuse victims are too insignificant to recieve divine protection????

Such a predictable outline
1 terrify the audience with apocalyptic nonsense.
2 Then say 'have no fear! Deeds of Godly devotion will save you'
3 Explain that the 'deeds' are complete obedience to the watchtower publishing/real estate company.
In other words, give us your time, money and children or face imminent death. Same s**t, different outline.

Fact : 1 We live in the 21st Century Fact : 2 Why do we tolerate Religions of yesteryear that dominate ,interfere with our progress
by smiddy inwhy in this 21st century are we still cow towing to religions that are based in the distant past, of thousands of years ago , whether it be christian islam or whatever.?
and not to restrict it to just those two , but all ancient religions.. all of them are hypocritical , on the one hand rejecting modern day society and it`s technology and on the other hand embracing it for their own advantage .. when is the human race ever going to rid itself of pie in the sky beliefs.?.
smiddy.

How could the human race go about ridding itself of religion and uphold human rights at the same time?
Like anything I believe good education is the best way to fight against ignorance but it takes a long time to truly educate entire cultures. IMO religion will probably become a thing of the past eventually but it will take a good few generations yet for it to happen.
