  I just realized that You Know, who tends to take facts and ignore them while making personal attacks instead, will probably accuse me of being self-serving or something. So let me remind you, You Know, of something I said in the previous thread on this subject: I am not demanding an apology from you, nor am I interested in making your identity known to HQ, nor do I wish you personal harrassment. When I post on this subject, I am doing so as a disinterested observer.

  Actually, I am more than that, since I am one of the victims of your slander campaign, but in my case, I am perfectly willing to let you slander me without demanding recompense in any manner. I personally figure you do yourself more damage than good this way, and my reputation survives despite your efforts.

  So if you are going to respond to my previous post, please do so on the details of the message, and don't turn this into a personal attack on me. I'm not the one making threats against you, so let's just talk facts, not insults.

  I appreciate your observation. I would go so far as to call their antics a form of blackmail intended to drive me from participating in this forum.

  No, it is intended to get you to admit your wrongdoing and apologize. After that, you are more than welcome to continue posting here. We actually enjoy it, and it serves the anti-WTS position extremely well.

  And I will say too, that if there is any spill-over from the arguments here in cyberland to my personal affairs, with the intent of harrassing me, I will hold the parties legally responsible, including this board for allowing this sort of thing to occur.

  Uh huh, or you could just apologize! That seems far simpler than threatening legal action, doesn't it? It's also the more Christian approach to take.

  Hi Larry! Nice to see you here, buddy.

  I enjoyed reading part I. I have a couple of questions:

  1. What angle is the newspaper going to use for this story?
  2. What is your goal in writing it?

  One possible correction, though I might be wrong: You say you got baptized in summer '83. That is right around the time the latest Organization book came out. Prior to this we had the old 80 questions, not 100+ questions, for baptism. Just making sure you were using the new book, not the old one, in 1983.

  As it happens, Tom does not have my email address.

  As for why post this here, it's because they are giving You Know a final chance to do what's right. A public slander campaign has occurred, and now a public apology is called for. Therefore a public warning is being given before public action is taken.

  funny old life isnt it....

  i was just looking out the window, as it would happen a middle aged woman, or perhaps a young woman worn out with her life walked past.

  she stopped on the edge of the mall where my wifes office is, and sat on a bench outside the window.

  on close look, she couldnt have been more than late 30's, but probably only 35.. she sat for a while just looking at the ground in front of her, her face just exhibiting that blank look of the world weary.

  I can appreciate your point-of-view, and how an introspective moment can impact our lives. I certainly wish you the best with your life choices and with your attitude toward your choices.

  As for me, when I was faced with the thought about giving up everlasting life, what helped me cope was this simple idea: I never had everlasting life to begin with, I only thought I had.

  In other words, I didn't lose anything, but gained a clearer picture of my future instead of fantasies from the WTS. It was a gain, not a loss.

  Your mileage may vary, of course, but I add this only as an alternate thought to this experience in life we go through as we cope with leaving the WTS behind. All the best for your particular future, regardless of the choice you make.

  i thought this particular essay might be of interest to some folks here, since we came from a religion that saw the kingdom as future.. ginny.

  I found it interesting too, Ginny. I've noticed for some time that the early disciples clearly expected the kingdom in their lifetime. Yet I had never heard this idea about Jesus' thoughts on the matter.

  well i was sick and tired of hearing the wts tacking anaolgy to solver everything so i looked it up online!!

  i did this last summer and hadn't looked at till today, just thought i'd share!.

  i'm working on putting stuff together and actually getting a website but here's a page for now!.

  Nicely done article, Venice. I've heard that the late Karl Klein wrote that tacking article. Boy has it served as a handy excuse ever since!

  Yet when you think about it, what is the point of tacking in the context of sailing? It is to get from point A to point B despite heading into a wind. So you move one way, and then another way, and back to the first, but all the while making incremental progress! If you are not making steady progress, there isn't any point to it. Yet not one JW has ever been able to explain this conflict with the reality of tacking while sailing and what the WTS has done with its teachings. There is a major disonnect here.

  You noted the example of Sodom and Gomorrah, a classic one. The example I like is alternative military service, for it affected thousands of young men within the organization. Russell had it right from the very beginning! Rutherford then changed it and it stayed changed until the mid-1990s, with so many young men going to prison for something that wasn't Biblical at all, and admitted as such in the mid-1990s!. So how was that tacking? How was progress made when they just went right back to their original belief? Why would God maneuver things to cause thousands of young men to go to prison over absolutely nothing?

  at work i had this discussion with some of my buds, ..... what is the thing about the british, and irish, with drinking warm beer?

  or at least room temperature?.

  when i've done that, it dont do anything for me.

  I've always imagined (I don't actually know) that it began when refrigeration was unknown or rare and thus a culture got used to something. Furthermore, isn't it the case that more flavor comes out at room tempature than in something that is ice cold? Imagine suggesting to a wine expert that he chill that fine red wine before tasting it!

  Chilled beverages are refreshing. Not as cold beverages have more taste, or their taste are more detectable to our palate.

  So if you are down in Aussie-land, with that hot sun, you want a nice cold one, mate! If you are in temperate Britain, where most of the year you are wearing a sweater, the need for ice-cold refreshment is much less. Therefore, taste wins out, and the beer is served room tempature.

  Those of us used to ice-cold beer think this is awful, but Europeans come over to America and have to beg the waitresses to please not stick ice in every last bit of liquid they are served! Cultural differences.

  Those are my guesses.

  I can think of three possibilities for the inclusion of that hypocritical section of the article:

  1. Sheer blindness leading to a re-use of a common example they have used over the years. In other words, force of habit without thinking about how hypocritical it sounds.

  2. The WTS reacting to your efforts by digging in their heels, refusing to admit wrongdoing, and going on the offensive.

  3. An example of the struggle between the liberal forces and the conservative forces at headquarters. Service Dept is digging in their heels, and someone in Writing Dept decided that enough was enough and wrote that to give them a little dig.
