The last time you made a wager, after you lost, you backed out, claiming you were "only kidding." Why should we believe you'd keep your end of the bargain this time?
Serious question, not dogging you.
perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.
as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.
since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

i went to the homepage for ray franz' commentary press, and i found an article there promoting the idea that genesis teaches a local flood.
the author believes the genesis flood actually happened, as a local event, and that an ark actually were floating on top of local flood waters in the mesopotamia area some thousand years ago.
i recognized many arguments from a talk carl olof jonsson gave at a "christian freedom" seminar in sweden in, i think, 1996, so i guess that this article, too, is written by coj.
It wiped out everyone then alive excepting Noah and his family, as people at that time lived along the Mesopotamian basin.
Except for the Chinese.
the following is the first-draft of a letter i would like to send to the society.
any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
(don't worry, i've developed a thick-skin.
An excellent letter, was. My only comment, and it's sad to even have to point this out, is that your final paragraph does not have the usual obsequious tone that sisters need to use when making requests of brothers. Yeah, yeah, I know, but think of your audience. They will read that last paragraph and think you are telling them what to do (which you are), and get pissed that some sister dares to do that.
Sad, but true. If that is the response you want, fine. If not, and you are trying to "reach their hearts" (ha!), then I would make minor adjustments to the final paragraph.
I couldn't care less, but I'll bet HQ will. You know how Pharisees get...

Had you not read of that?
Indeed I have, and an impressive flood that must have been. Might even have led to Flood myths down the road, it was so memorable. None of this says anything about a global flood, which is an impossibility. Local floods, sure. Massive local floods, sure. Global flood, no.

I didn't conjecture one way or the other but said let's see what the satellite photos eventually show. That's reasonable wouldn't you agree.
With many subjects, I would agree. However, the idea of a global Flood has been so thoroughly, so systematically, and so solidly discredited, if a satellite photo shows the remains of a large ship on the mountain, the most likely question to ask would be, "All right, who's the prankster?"
this is a chat i had a few months ago on yahoo (you people who chat on this stupid board, get yer asses over to yahoo, now!)..
jag1lisa: what religion are you.
cygnustsp: last thursdayist.
How incredibly offensive! Everybody knows that Last Wednesdayism is the only true religion. My guess is that you couldn't handle the requirements of Last Wednesdayism and lapsed by a day. Poor misguided soul...
i usually for some reason wake up pondering on my life and coming up with questions about certain things... this morning i looked out my window and thought... if god made earth for humans to live on.. then why did he create billions, and billions of planets inside billions and billions of galaxies?
if earth is the one out of allll these planets that has life on it... why?
A good question, and one I've thought about too. In my opinion, the universe stands as evidence that the Bible is not true. It's Earth-centric view of the universe stands in stark contrast to the reality of the universe.
What purpose do stars serve? Something to do with humans? Not at all, for we humans can barely see the tiniest fractions of the quadrillions of stars that actually exist. The vast majority are entirely outside our view or knowledge. So do the stars have something to do with spirit creatures? Well, since they are spirit creatures, physical elements aren't what they live in or around. They can see physical objects, but is that the purpose of stars? To make some pretty for the angels to look at? Hardly! Not only would this be a massive expenditure of energy for the purpose of making something "pretty," why would we think that a spirit creature would view as pretty the same things a non-spirit creature would?
Then, too, there is the problem of the life cyles of stars. They are born, they burn, they either die a slow death or explode at the end. All of them, including our own sun. Since nothing humans did on earth could have affected the outside universe, it is evident that the universe exists as God intended it to exist. That is, God made stars to have a normal lifetime and then burn out. Including our own sun. Unless God is going to step in and prevent our sun from doing its normal thing, which God supposedly made in the first place. So which is it? God wants stars to burn out, or He doesn't? If He doesn't, did He make a mistake in creating the universe this way? Did He change his mind? Will he prevent his own natural laws from taking effect on our sun?
Then what of the planets? What purpose to they serve? To affect the earth? No, for planets in other solar systems have zero impact on earth. And the universe seems to be full of planets, just as it is full of stars.
None of this is explainable by the Bible.
in a controversial post in a separate thread, janh makes an extremely good observation that a certain former gb member will likely carry many, many wts "top secrets" to his grave, for whatever reasons he does not wish to divulge such.. then, on this db, former bethelites constantly exchange posts where their word choice is "cloaked" so that many of us who were not insiders are left guessing at meaning, people, etc.
obviously, even individual members of this fraternity have unique experiences and insights.
if such info is not disseminated, it is lost if that person dies naturally or in an accident.. would you folks please post more elaborately so that the rest of us can benefit from your knowledge and experience.. the statement that motivated this post made a silent reference to the author of the happiness book.
I think the real test of whether this clique feels they are above the rest of us will come if/when the time comes that there is no need for secrecy, and they continue to be secretive.
Why on earth would that happen?! Who wants to be secretive? I've been dying to tell as many people as possible what I know, and only didn't because I was requested not to. The fact that I can keep my word says nothing about me wanting to be part of some clique, or desiring to be secretive. I'm not and I don't.
Wild accusations don't make truthful statements. There is a reason why some information hasn't been released yet. When the time comes, there will be no reason to hold anything back. In the meantime, I have to patient like everyone else, because damage could be done otherwise.

Sam Beli,
Thanks for the kind words about me, but I deserve no credit in this particular matter. I am a bystander like so many. It is only because of some long-standing friendships made over the years online (and the fact that I know how to keep a confidence when asked of me) that I even found out about these matters relating to child abuse within the organization. But now virtually everything I heard in confidence has been posted here over the past few months. I'm just watching from the sidelines like everyone else now.

Oh calm down, Mad! Some of us know things from our days inside the organization, or at Bethel, or from inside contacts, or whatever. Some of what I know has been told me in confidence. If I were to spill the beans here prematurely, I would betray those who made the request. It would have a chilling effect on further dissemination of information down the road.
Be patient. All will come out in due time. If stuff is released prematurely, it could cause problems for individuals, or for the cause. One thing you do not want is to tip off Legal to all the stuff we know. If that means you have to exercise a little patience, well, guess what? I do too. I haven't been told the whole story, and I'll gladly wait to hear it.
As for hearing every little crumb of gossip, there is already enough information out to condemn the WTS many times over. If a person hasn't been convinced by all this, they probably won't be convinced no matter what you offer them.
