  Has the WTS ever made a prediction that came true?

  this morning a thought occured to me "has the society ever made a prediction or prophecy that has come true"?.

  most of us are familiar with the prophecies or dates the wts has emphasized in the past.

  of course all of those predictions never proved to be accurate so the question is, "if this is god's prophetic organization where is the proof"?.

  Ah, it's been a while since we had one these threads, but it's one of the granddaddy of all JW threads. Yes, indeed, the Society has in the plast claimed to speak for Jehovah and in His name, and claimed that Jehovah's words were being proclaimed. They have claimed that angels came down and provided new light. All in print, all in the past. Most current JWs have no clue about this past. But yes, they have made predictions, and they have made them in Jehovah's name, and they have all failed.

  GermanJW brought up the common JW response to this challenge: Knorr's talk that seems to have claimed the rise of the UN after WWII ended. The only problem with that is that the talk was given months after information about the formation of the UN was in the New York papers! Some prediction. All he said is that the war would end (all wars do), and that the UN would appear in the League of Nation's place (something they probably read in the papers). And that's supposed to be the big prediction?

  I believe in aliens

  by that i mean it's possible aliens could have visited and influenced the earth.. one of the best quotes i heard by someone who had an alien en-counter was that the aliens told them "that they didn't want to show themselves to the world because they didn't want to affect or influence our religions".

  what do you think?

  that sounds a bit like a prime directive to me, and could be a good reason why the aliens are simply spying on us.

  Sagan's The Demon Haunted World talks a lot about aliens. Sagan himself strongly believed in alien life, and wanted very much to find evidence. He examined all the UFO claims and wrote about it in that book. Bottom line: ain't no such thing, at least none that humanity has encountered yet.

  In the Middle Ages, people had close encounters with Mary, or with demons. UFOs weren't encountered until science and science fiction wrote about the possibility. How nice of the aliens to wait to visit us until we were expecting them...NOT.

  I do not see any change, any new light, any watering down of the message that the UN is the 8th King of Revelation and that it is the disgusting thing standing where it ought not as mentioned in Daniel.

  Oh? I thought that was changed recently to say that the 'disgusting thing standing where it ought not' was yet a future event. If so, Shawnster is already behind the times and the thing that couldn't even have been foreseen already happened.

  protesters against JWs at WTC on 9/11?

  my fiance's mother, who is in complete hysteria since the attack on 9/11 and went back to being a witness after 10 years (clearly the main reason my fiance is now considering he should go back)told my fiance something that she heard from one of the elders last week.

  i am not sure if it is true and most likely, there is no way to prove it.

  she said that on the day of the attack, there was a group of people outside the wtc screaming and badmouthing jws because they don't fly the flag etc.

  Hi concerned,

  I live in NYC, and I can asssure you that her story is 100% false, and I will demonstrate how I can be so sure:

  She said that on the day of the attack, there was a group of people outside the WTC screaming and badmouthing JWs because they don't fly the flag etc.

  So, on 9/11 itself, when people were fleeing the area around the WTC, and police were setting up zones around it to keep people out safely while rescue people rushed in, there managed to be a group of people who forced their way past the police in order to stand in the midst of toxic black smoke that covered the entire downtown area simply in order to denounce JWs. Uh huh. Riiiight.

  1. No one in their right mind would be in that area on that day unless they were rescuing. People were fleeing! The smoke was billowing for weeks in that area, and on that day it was turning day into night.

  2. The patriotic fever had not yet taken hold of the nation. We were still in shock. People's thoughts were still on the 'what will happen next' stage, and not yet on the 'let's show our support' stage.

  3. Nobody had been able to buy flags yet, so how would they know who was or was not flying the flag yet?

  4. Why did no one at Bethel mention this detail through all the reports that have slipped out?

  5. Why did this patriotic protest not make the news here in the city where it was supposed to happen?

  6. Who cares about JWs?

  JWs love to think that the whole world is about to turn against them, so they make up rumors that indicate their world view is correct. That's what happened here. She can go scurrying back if she wants, but a few years from now she's going to feel foolish.

  Jon passed away this morning

  jon gave me his password a few weeks ago and asked me to post to the board if something happened to him.

  as some of you know jon had been undergoing cancer treatment since the end of july.

  First Reaction To My UN letters

  my husband called his cousin this morning and the first thing the cousin said to my husband was something like, are you aware that your wife sent us some information that was very disturbing to us?.

  my husband let him know that he did not know i was sending out those letters but he had since done research on the info and found that i was correct.. the cousin asked my husband if he was aware that i could be in trouble for a letter like that.

  my husband informed him again that i was telling the truth and he had called the un himself to verify.. the cousin said he would call the society to see if this is true but.

  That was a remarkable response you got! Very defensive, very non-sequitor in nature, and very funny too:

  I was just happy to hear what a great impression the brothers & sisters were making in New York since the 9-11 tragedy.

  Haven't heard a word about JWs, and I'm in NYC. Not one word on the news, in the papers, on the radio, on the Web, nothing. Great impression, huh?

  The Fire Chief and Mayor Guliani praised them.

  If they helped, I'm sure they did get praise. Guiliani will praise anyone who helps. He's being an equal opportunity praiser through all this.

  Plus the Society has been feeding the firefighters and rescue workers for free; transporting them to and from Ground Zero, loaned their equipment, etc. The stuff you never hear about in the news!

  Probably because it isn't happening, or at least not in an appreciable amount. Probably one Bethel heavie gave one firefighter a ride over there one day and now it's all over the world that Bethel is "transporting" firefighters back and forth!

  Also, the Firefighter Commissioner praised the brothers and sisters for the "most important work they've been doing in comforting people'" who are hopeless.

  They always praise people who help out, including the clergy. When you are tired, who doesn't appreciate a kind word?

  I don't know what the "U.N." thing is

  And I don't wanna know!

  but I know Jehovah's organization wouldn't have lasted this long if it was due to dishonesty.

  ROFL! What a lack of knowledge of history. Organizations always lie to further their aims. So do corporations. So go governments. They last because people believe the lies. Like your friend...

  Is the UN 'scandal' the big one ?

  looking at the stats, there are well over 14,000 views of the thread about the un.

  the next 'most read' thread is around 9,500 so it is clearly a burning issue.. i wonder if the involvement with the un is the biggest threat to the wts?.

  they are getting badly burnt because of their covering up child abuse and www.silentlambs.org is doing a great job of raising the profile of this but even so, i can see the 'mental defense mechanism' of many jws excusing this as 'individuals imperfection'.. they cannot excuse the gb getting in bed with the un.

  I remember the old, old days when Ray Franz's and James Penton's books were the big accusation against the WTS.

  Then I remember the old days when AJWRB hit the blood issue hard (and they are still going strong), and that was the big accusation against the WTS.

  Then I remember the more recent days when silentlambs sprung up, and the lambs began to roar, and that was the big accusation against the WTS (still is big and growing).

  Now I see the UN issue, and that is the big accusation against the WTS.

  I foresee the ........ issue in the near future...(we'll see, but I'll bet more is out there).
