GOING DOWN IN THE ONRUSHING FLOOD?
by You Know inpresently developing trends in the world are like a slowly rising mountainous tsunami that threatens to drown jehovahs organization.
global warfare seems certain to erupt at the next spark of terrorism.
the financial system is being rocked with increasing tremors of volatility in advance of the onrushing wall of water.

MA,
I respectfully disagree with both of your points.
1. This case may not have serious repercussions, but it could be the first step down a bad road. I recall my history, and know that blacks were prevented from voting by means of tests to determine their "qualifications." I am leery of any steps in that general direction, and yes, the current Supreme Court is quite capable of doing things that will restrict rights.
As for me being a pussy-wimp or a worthless asshole, I'll leave that to others to judge. But I don't know JT's motive for wanting me to write him privately, although it might involve personal information that would violate a mutual friend's privacy, stuff that doesn't belong on a board. However, JT asked him to write, and I did, as I always do when someone requests this of me.
I should think that you would have read enough of my posts by now to know that I never shy away from an argument, I am perfectly willing to stand alone on an issue, I am part of no "consolidated front", and I couldn't care less about prestige or standing in the exJW community.

Message from Robert Redford on energy security

it is understandable that we americans feel an almost reflexive need for unanimity in trying times like these.
as a nation, we are rightly consumed with responding to the terrorist attacks on september 11th.

i have been reading up on the electoral college that we have set up, inspired by the results of last years election, and i think it is the most antiquated, if not most useless system and sorry excuse for a democracy/ democratic state, IMO don't want to change the subject o this thread so i will cut it short, perhaps a new thread?Sure, set up a new thread and I'll comment in it. Just remember an important point in such a discussion, and the reason we have the electoral college in the first place: America is NOT a democracy. It is a republic, and the difference is significant in this subject.

As for Robert Redford, why don’t you do a web search yourself to find out if he is a hypocrite or not?
Gasp! Actually find out facts? Good heavens, what's the point of that when it's far more enjoyable to name call?

Tough Question for ExElders...
by Xena inwith a friend suddenly confronted with the prospect of being disfellowshiped recently it got me wondering about how an elder feels the first time he disfellowships someone.. the first time you disfellowshiped someone was there regret?
sadness?
or a sense of justice?.
-
Seeker
When, upon disfellowshipment, and during the J.C. meeting that is formed to determine the reason for such, what is told to that person SPECIFICALLY re: any prayers or utterances to "jehovah himself"?
Can "jehovah" hear my prayers? Is "satan" the one receiving them since "that day"?
What do elders and what did you ex elders say about this specifically?
Do and/or did you believe that once a person WAS "dissed", that prayers directly to "jehovah" were null and void? And did any of you make sure that the "dissed" person knew this well?
6of9....the ex and not-so-exelders know exactly what I'm asking, thus the thunderous silence from them
Another perfectly ordinary explanation for the "thunderous silence" is that, like me, they probably have never even heard of an elder saying such an awful thing, let alone saying it themselves. As I said, I never voted to DF anyone, so I cannot directly answer your question. But those elders that did DF people absolutely wanted the person to keep praying. They used to tell them, from what I was told, that it was more important than ever to keep praying.
You went through a horrible, abusive experience, from what I can tell. I know none of the details, and I don't want to know any of the details for that is your business and not mine. But there are bad elders in places and it sounds as if you had some. Not everyone does. I would be surprised to learn of many elders who told DFed ones what you evidently heard.
The problem with anecdotal evidence is that it doesn't mean everything is like that. If you are in a congregation that is caring, it can sound strange when someone talks about an abusive congregation. If you are in an abusive congregation, it can sound strange when someone talks about a caring congregation. Nevertheless, both types do exist.

I realize I am totally in the minority on this issue, but I hope the WTS wins this case. I am very much leery of giving any government the right to decide who gets to speak and who doesn't, even door-to-door. All it would take is some local government to decide they don't like, uh, conservatives, or liberals, or blacks, being able to speak to their neighbors about an issue, and suddenly the permits will not be issued. It won't have anything to do with criminals, and everything to do with idealogy.
I don't like being bothered at the door any more than anyone else does. But the point of free speech is you have to defend that speech you find most distasteful, or else the concept has no meaning.
And for those of you who will yell, 'Yeah, but we want to keep pedophiles away from kids at the door' just remember this law won't affect this one bit. The town officials won't know about pedophiles if the local elders continue to keep this a secret as they do now. And once the WTS is forced to reveal the pedophiles in their midst, they will go to jail, not door-to-door. This Ohio law is irrelevant to this issue.
So here is hoping, sigh, that the WTS once again as they act in their own selfish interests, accidentally helps protects the rights of us all.

Seeker, what 'credits' do you have that compares with Fagan's?
Non-sequitor. Anyone is qualified to judge what someone else writes. If a person makes statements without backing them up, I reject those writings. It's as simple as that. I want evidence.
Fagan exposed communism in Hollywood? Oh great, an idealogue as well! He's of no interest to me.

A general apology
by Seeker ini've been a bit short with people today in the forums, and i shouldn't have been quite so abrupt.
i get frustrated when i see exjws make the same mistake and join up with political groupthink just as they used to join with governing body groupthink.
it's all propaganda, as i keep trying to point out, but the fact is that you can believe whatever you want without my input.. i realize i keep harping on conservative hypocrisy lately, but that's because they are in power right now.

To all,
I'm feeling much better today, thanks. I appreciate the kind words very much.
To ZazuWitts,
Your message stunned me, in a good way. All I ever want to do is raise awareness of what I'm learning as well. You cheered me immensely to know that someone was actually listening. Thank you very much for telling me.

Joe versus the Volcano: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0099892
Written by the guy who wrote Moonstruck. Starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (for the first time), and totally ignored by everyone (or else hated). I just love this movie, but I view it for more than just the surface story. If you watch it and take everything you see absolutely literally, it's a silly movie that seems juvenile at times. If you watch it and see the underlying message, it's one of the most profound message movies I've seen, and truly can be life-changing (neat exJW metaphor as well).
Plus it's just fun to see Hank and Ryan (who plays three different characters, and yes, there's an underlying message to that as well) play so well together. It's lyrical, beautiful movie that I can watch again and again...and everyone else thinks is a lousy movie cuz they're too busy looking at the surface.
