I've written on here several times about what a turning point it was for me when, as a Witness, I decided to read Genesis without the WTS filter on, and see if it made any sense.
By Genesis 18 or so, I knew the Bible was a book of myths, and I never looked back.

so i've been thinking about many of the different things the wts has put into effect this year in keep their strong hold on the flock: .
- a new edition of the watchtower for jws only that uses all of their insider terminology.
- individuals who are disfelloshipped, dissassociated, or have ceased association with the congregation should not receive the current literature.

Nice list, and you can also add the strong anti-college talk at the DC, where they outlined the five horrible aspects of going to college for a JW - all of which were pretty flimsy stuff.

i'm curious as to how many would feel "weird" about it now..
Noted that you used the word 'comfortably' in your title. No, the life-size cross is not very comfortable to carry at all!
I also have to use extreme caution when making turns in a crowd. Smack one person up side of the head with a 6x6, and you'd think the world was coming to an end. People can be so confrontational today!

just when you think the society couldn't get more oppressive, they prove you wrong.
there are lots of threads about the recent changes - the thing that really is a slap in the face for any witness who is considering their view of the organization, is the kingdom ministry which not only speaks against witnesses having sites (can't see those disappearing anytime soon) and they also want people to stop meeting together independently.. since when was this bible based?.
the bible says when two or three are gathered together that god will be among them, and many other scriptures speak against this teaching.. share your opinion on how this might help others wake up but please for me and others wanting to use this opportunity to have a discussion try and provide some scriptures along the way, they will be a great help!.
I found that KM Question Box, and this summer's DC anti-college talk to be some of the strongest evidence I've ever seen that the WTS is scared shitlessof what is happening among the rank and file JWs.
They are backtracking on education big time, and this attempt to squelch ANY outside study is downright scary. It's totally unscriptural, among other things, and sooooo cultlike.
There will be a lot of JWs who will be disturbed by this.

I actually carry a life-size cross on my back when I walk around my home town. Gets a lot of attention, but I'm not sure if it would be considered jewelry.

Why? Lots of reasons, but here's just one from my own experience:
For many years I was a super zealous, firm believing JW. Elder, Pioneer all of it. I was not on the fringes, I was in the middle of it. As a friend recently said, I was an "elder's elder."
I couldn't imagine leaving the Witnesses. It was my life, despite the fact that I knew some things being taught did not make sense. I was willing to "wait on Jehovah" to straighten things out. Even when I saw that things were not getting better, in fact more problems were coming to the fore, I was still afraid to think about leaving.
I stepped down as an elder on my own, but I was determined to set the best example of being an ex-elder as possible. I still couldn't imagine not being a Witness.
What made the difference? What gave me the courage to leave? The old H2O site, which was very similar to this one, along with a few other ex-JW sites. THEY CONFIRMED THAT MY DOUBTS ABOUT THE WTS WERE TOTALLY LEGITIMATE.
That was a vital point for me. It's one thing to be in the midst of 1000s of Witnesses and realize that lots of what you're hearing doesn't make sense, but it does, you assume, to everyone else, so the problem must be in you. What H2O and JWD have done for me is provide contact with 1000s of others for whom WTS teachings no longer made sense. Coming here, I knew I wasn't just being bad and rebellious and prideful - I was simply reacting to nonsense with intelligence and reason, and lots of other JWs were doing the same.
Talks like the anti-education one at the DC, and now this new KM Questiion Box denouncing study of any literature outside of the WTS's, is going to hit a lot of JWs real hard. With JWD, relief will be just a mouse click away.
I've thought about moving on from this, but I don't think so. Considering all the newbies that have come on here in the last few weeks BEFORE this KM came out, this site is more important than ever. And if we're seeing the start of a clamping down by the WTS and Governing Body, we're about to witness a serious exodus from the JW ranks.

Sounds like you've got a leg up on being the Next Food Network Star!
I think one of the weaknesses of the cooking shows is this idea that you've got to always keep coming up with new recipes, so they run into problems.
Bourdain hit it well when he said that what makes a great chef is consistency - being able to do the same 20 recipes on the menu to perfection every time. That's sort of true with home cooks as well - how many of us cook 50 different things in a year or so? Any family that cooks 20-25 different great meals is going to be happy as hell! Add a few new ones from time to time to keep things interesting, and you'll eat like kings.
