I've always questioned whether these sites are monitoredby the Society, but in a conversation with a former Bethelite recently, I was told THEY DO monitor the site.
I have no actual proof of that, though. I would think they would consider it very dangerous to have brothers visit here.

PROOF that the GB lurk HERE ???
by AlphaOmega ina while ago, i posted this thread.... http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/135699/1.ashx.
in which i said.... this is strange, i read that in 1995 they did away with the "generation" teaching, yet the official watchtower website still says this, over 12 years later !.
thus, all the features of the last days must take place within the lifetime of one generation, the generation of 1914. so some people who were alive in 1914 will still be alive when this system comes to its end.

How Did YOU Find JWD?
by minimus ini used to read the old h2o site and i believe they brought up that this place was up......either that or i typed in jws on search.
-
Seeker4
I was very active on the old H2O site for a long time. Back when I was still involved enough so that I wanted to hide who I was.
Bill Bowen and I were talking on the phone and he recommended this site to me.
Been here ever since.

OK, YOUR FAVORITE FOOD/COOKING SHOWS. Anthony Bourdain...
by Seeker4 inyep, bourdain's no reservations tops my list of favorites.. why is it that shows on food and cooking, reality or otherwise, kick the ass of just about everything else on tv?
what do you expect with crap like america's got talent?
yeah, maybe it does, but not much of it's getting on that show!.
-
Seeker4
Did anyone see Bourdain and Zimmern tonight??
The BEST food shows! Yes!
Zimmern's first stop in NYC was the Carnegie Deli - Lori and I ate there with her family on our first trip together to NYC (I've been to NYC lots, since 1961, [conventions in '61, '63, '69, '71 and '73, work at Bethel, etc.] but not with her).
These shows gave me so much inspiration in so many ways. Writing, eating, cooking, living...

30 minute public talks???
by jws inforgive me if this has been posted, but my dad just told me they announced they'd shorten the sunday public talks to 30 minutes.
apparently there are so many congregations at some halls that the extra half hour will help ease the scheduling.. he says it's not just his hall, it's all over.
i suppose it would have to be.
-
Seeker4
Yeah, there have been several posts on this for a week or two.
Not exactly sure what the reasons are, but a few guesses. In halls where several congregations meet, it will help with the transition between congregations, giving a few more minutes.
It will cut down on what can be either the most interesting or most boring meeting of the week.
Brothers are to use the same outlines, but cut out some 10 minutes or so. Much less time for individual ideas, teachings, outside sources.

Are These "Scholars" JWs & are They Really Scholars? A Brother Says So....
by Seeker4 ina brother on the beliefnet discussion of the new km question box claims that the following list of writings is by jw professors, including elders and former cos and dos.
some of the names, like jay hess and firpo carr, i'm familar with.
most i haven't heard of.

Seeker4
Thanks Jeff. I kind of thought I remembered that about Hess.
Do you know if any of these guys are elders, ex-COs or DOs?
I really knew only a handful of brothers over the years who were any kind of serious students of the Bible.

Well, isn't Notre Dame a Catholic university? Would a brother be considered wrong attending it? I'm not sure how I would answer that.

Does anyone know if these are really by JWs, and are there all these Witnesses who are language and bible professors at various universities, as that brother claims? I've been involved with the Witnesses for a long time, and I only knew of a couple of brothers in this situation.
This brother also claims that he's attending a Baptist university and studying something like bible history. Sounds a bit unusual. Also claims that he wants to teach Bible subjects online and become a JW apologist, essentially.
Sounds interesting. Well, if he's any kind of a scholar, he'll soon by on JWD!
It's funny, but this brother was defending the WTS's view in the QB, when he is doing exactly what they are coming out against!

Does Someone's Religion Matter To You?
by minimus indo you care if tom cruise is a scientologist?
or that mitt romney is a mormon?
or that a person is either a very devout muslim or a card carrying communist?
-
Seeker4
Yeah. Having lived with a President who is deeply religious and who decided that it was god's will for him to haul my country into a quagmire of a war, and who is cocksure that he is still right in doing that - yeah religion matters to me.
When, day after day, I hear that someone has strapped explosives on themselves, worked their way into a crowd of men, women and children, and then set themselves off - yeah religion matters to me.
Every day when I hear the latest body count of Iraqis and Americans, the stupidity that religious belief can lead to makes religion matter to me.
The fawning political candidates all falling over each other to tell everyone how deeply religious they are and how important god is to them makes me a little queasy. Aren't these supposed to be the best and the brightest critical thinkers of our time? Ha! Yeah, religion matters to me.
When three of the candidates say they don't believe in evolution, religion really matters to me. What are they going to say when they are President, they don't believe in atomic theory, and touch off a few bombs just to prove that atomic theory is "only a theory" and not supported by the evidence? Yeah, the stupidity that religion can breed matters to me.

I read a ton of Ken Wilber as I was leaving the WTS. Gave me a nice foundation from which to grow and understand what I'd gone through. Rising to new levels in the spiral of consciousness is an amazing thing.
