I think the child of cover 1 gives a much better idea of what your book is about than the eye peeking through the keyhole. That one says something quite different to me - more about spying or peeping at someone.

Book cover poll (The Spanking Room)
by WilliamCoburn inplease vote for the cover that you feel best fits my book: the spanking room: a childs eye view of the jehovahs witnesses
my goal is simple: to have a cover and title that tells the reader all of the following: this is a true story of what it was like to grow up as a jehovahs witness with
a father who says jesus is the only way to salvation a mother who says the watchtower society is the only way to salvation and a scared little boy caught in between

Yet Another Dub Uban Legend...
by brinjen induring the eighties i remember hearing that our then prime minister robert hawke (also an athiest) said if he was ever going to join a religion, it would be the jehovah's witnesses as "they made the most sense.".
anyone else hear of this one?

Urban legends. For an atheist to become a JW it would be like a mature adult becoming a six year old. Very rare. These are the sort of statements that float around JWland without a shred of evidence.
Lies, all lies, I'd bet.

The End of Circuit Overseers
by scotsman inis indeed apparently nigh as another poster predicted along with the end of the weekly bs.
not sure when this should take place but i'm reliably informed by a family member that one of the uk's overseers was talking about it fairly recently.
reduced to weekend visits by an outside but local elder instead.. i have no further info..

I love these crazy, speculating threads with so many posts starting "IF this is true...' usually followed by something completely in left field.
God, what a bunch of stuff on this one - disgruntled COs, WTS going "underground" (yeah, sure), young brothers taking over visiting congregations, combining KHalls into super churches.
Get a grip folks! We need something called proof.
Anyone got any???

Aren't apartments in Kingdom Halls a no-no now? We had to empty the one we had at our hall a few years ago. I think it creates tax issues, which scares the WTS.

Tom Cabeen on EWTN's Journey Home tonight. I enjoyed it.
by Seeker4 inwatched tom tonight, and thought he made some excellent points.
i called, and actually got through, but the producer didn't put me on.
i wanted to ask tom if his leaving bethel in 1980 had any connection with the whole ray franz/ed dunlap incident, which was happening then.. as tom knows, i'm one of those ex-jws who became an atheist, so i took quite a different path than he did in leaving the jws, and i certainly don't agree with his conclusions.

As Tom knows, I'm one of those ex-JWs who became an atheist, so I took quite a different path than he did in leaving the JWs, and I certainly don't agree with his conclusions. But I'm glad he had a forum to discuss them, and I appreciate his honesty in his discussion of JWs. It wasn't vindictive, and it wasn't demeaning. Nicely done, Tom.
Any points from the show that you especially enjoyed - or disagreed with?

Why Are Barb Anderson's Comments Missing from Silentlamb's NBC Transcript?
by Seeker4 ina few weeks ago i was checking out a few details on line about the nov. 12, 2007 nbc broadcast concerning the wts settlement on the west coast pedophile cases, and the release of the court documents on cd by barbara anderson.
i think it was lisa meyers who interviewed barbara, and brian williams was hosting.
well, i figured silentlambs had a transcript of the show, and i went there, only to find that they indeed had the transcript, but all of barbara's portion of the interview was oddly missing, and there was no link to the video.

"Just remember, Seeker, "Silentlambs" is Bill's website and he has the freedom to post, or not to post, anything that he wants. Whether that affects his credibility with people like you, well, that's another issue."
People like me, eh? Not sure what that means. I just want openness and honesty and a professional approach to this issue. I agree that Bill can post what he wants, but be honest about it. Don't employ WTS tactics. It robs his credibility, and I don't want that. I want Bill to be as credible as possible. I want to feel that I can read his website and know I'm getting everything he indicates I'm getting. When it turns out that I'd better check the sources of his information, to make sure I'm getting a full and accurate quote, I find that disturbing, and I don't mind saying so.

Just an update. As of this e-mail, no response from Silentlambs to any of those who've inquired about this.

E-mail to JW Ex-Wife: What You Can Learn Researching the WTS in 3 Hours!
by Seeker4 ini posted a thread earlier this week about a conversation i had with my jw ex-wife.
the next day i sent her this e-mail.
one should never be afraid of ideas.

Thanks for all the corrections. I was whipping this off at "work" (don't tell) and had limited time and no research material. Working from what I could remember.

Anyone else having this problem with Witness Friends and Relatives
by Evidently inthey are all over me with all of these "end of this system of things" signs......earthquakes, cyclones, pestilences, cost of food to lead to food shortages, blah, blah, blah....did they make an announcement at the kh that "this is it!!
" they say that we've never had all of these things happening all at once like we've had the past few weeks...... .

My JW ex-wife said something to this effect a week ago. She said all the things are happening just like it was prophesied. I laughed at that and said things are ALWAYS happening, and it doesn't mean a thing.
A bunch of crazy things happen at one time and all the JWs get excited. Things calm down for a few years, then go crazy again and everyone is in a lather about it.
Ad infinitum.

CO and DOS - I had lots of friends in both positions.
Some of the best, most progressive brothers for sure, and some of the worst bullies and mindless self-servers.
