Tom and others,
Were you ever in a Brooklyn congregation with Kathleen Campbell? English speaking single sister? She was close friends with Leo Greenlees.
Kathleen retired to Vermont to be near her daughter, and that's how we got to know Greenlees, when he came up to visit.

I knew several of the "old" anointed, and even more of the new anointed.
Voting at the annual meeting was about all the say the old anointed had with anything, and they were pretty much told how to vote at that!
There was one new anointed, Bob Matwijcow, an elder in several congregations in NJ and VT from the 60s on, who I think seriously thought that the GB and WTS were interested in his thoughts on subjects. He'd write the WTS all the time about things. Very smart guy, but I don't think the crew at Bethel gave him much attention.
How funny that someone still thinks that all the "new light" is approved by the 8500 or so who claim to be anointed!! As Tom brought out, the anointed have little to do with anything like that. The handful in the GB, and that's about it.
The WTS F&DS teaching is a theory only, and has never been put into practice. A WTS fantasy.

Beautifully put, CHL. You were a gift to him in his declining years. Maybe you made them the best years of his life.
And he was certainly a gift to you. Not a hell of a lot more that we can ask from a friendship.
Thanks for writing this. Made it a better day for me.

Visiting and doing temporary work at Bethel, and hanging with many Bethelites and ex-Bs over the years, is a real eye opener.
Many Bethelites were the most cynical and ambitious bros you could meet - I think of Walden Chin in particular. I took Carey Barber in service, hosted him for an afternoon and a meal, and interviewed him for a SAD. He was not the sharpest tool in the shed by any means. Not exactly what I expected for a GB member. I think a lot of Bethelites left with a very realistic view of the WTS, and proceeded to fade.
Others came out and went to congregations where they thought they were the golden boy. It was a running joke in many congregations with elders in the know that you didn't want to be "gifted" with a pioneer or special pioneer couple right out of Bethel. They could be serious pains in the ass.

My guess is they aren't letting you posts comments. I tried to post this:
"Wow, the same bad production quality and over acting/stunted dialogue as ever!
"Interesting that the WTS presents these totally fictionalized events as a "biblical" drama, and make it seem as though 1st Cent. Xtians were similar to modern JWs! How preposterous. Only JWs would consider it apostasy and wicked to be helping out the poor with charitable works or getting an education.
"Shame on you WTS for another sad travesty against your followers!"

my sister-in-law told me about this forum when i had questions and concerns about bible teachings from the organization.
i have never posted because i was scared of getting found out---that would have disastrous results.

I knew Olga and Merton Campbell pretty well. They hosted us as visitors to Bethel more than once, and they had very close friends in my home congregation where they visited several times over the years. Merton studied with the elder that was my closest friend and co-elder in my congregation. More than once we called Merton personally for his direction on matters we were handling as elders. According to my now ex-best friend, Merton was upset when he heard I'd left the Witnesses.
Interesting timing on that article. Wonder how Merton feels about knowingly re-appointing a pedophile like that. Does he ever think about the damage done? The individual cost from WTS policy?

Thanks Randy, and thank Warren for us. Great stuff.
Did either of you know Steve Lupo or Tim Lockhart from around this time?
Also, Jeffery, what a story! Having a granddaughter with Downs, this take on things is especially upsetting. What idiots some of these men were at times.
Greenlees came up and dedicated a hall I was in and helped build. He seemed OK. Now Carey Barber, there was an odd duck.

How many people did you "bring into the truth"?
by song19 ini am happy to say that i wasn't great with rvs and i never had a study.
hopefully me fluffing my way through presentations didn't plant any seeds that got watered and grew.

We studied with several people, and there are at least two families now that are still Witnesses that we "brought in," as it were. There are certainly many more that we influenced in becoming JWs.
At the same time, I'd like to think that I've had a hand in helping LOTS of people leave the Witnesses, including at least as many from my old congregation as I brought in to it. Thanks goodness for the Internet.

birthdays in new release WT pub
by isaacaustin ina subtle difference in the new book....it says something like "the bible reports negatively on birthdays- especially in the case of john the baptist...".
they are subtly admitting that the gen account does not strongly put b-days in a bad light and choose to focus on john the baptist.
obviously if they paid attention to the man spared and the results of that the gen 40:20 account would be positive.. yet they also now added the comments attributing birthdays to satanism..... .

Yeah, there are a few verses you don't really see very often in WTS literature, and that is one of them.
