Skally and Snowbird,
I'm not sure the guys running the printing room and doing the night watchman duty were exactly creating the "twisted doctrine and lethal policies" that you refer to.
I know you're angry about a lot of things but I'm not sure that's a fair assessment of the people on this thread.

Emotional speculation behind the high gas prices?
by LouBelle ini ask this because i know how emotion can drive the stock market.
all a share needs is some small bad/good news or rumour and this can make it rise and fall.
is something similar happening with the gas prices?

Speculation in the investment world with regard to oil is said to be adding at least $1 a gallon to gas prices, and some claim considerably more than that.
I for one am living so on the edge at the moment that it's scary.

I go way back on this site, further than most who've posted here as you can see.
I actually was a very active poster on the old H2O site, which I loved. AlanF, Gedanken and a bunch of great posters were there and here in the early years. Lots of rough and tumble discussions, like there still are. You make a strong assertion on this board, you better be able to defend it.
I came to this site after H2O had some issues. Bill Bowen recommended it in a phone conversation.
The differences? So many more people coming on here day be day. This is a great resource for people who are leaving - or still in and want out. That's why I stay. Just recently an old friend, still in but wanting out, contacted me after seeing me here.S4

Got Some Encouraging "Bad" JW News
by Seeker4 inan active jw was in touch with me yesterday, and we were catching up on a few things.
i found out that a witness i was friends with just daed.
he went to college and i'd always wondered if he has as much trouble with the jws as i thought he might.

Well, that's a little off subject, but I'd recommend you go to the "Best Of" category off the main page of this site. There's a lot of stuff to study there, and without a real understanding of Witness culture and teachings, you won't have much success.
Asking sincere questions that she will have a hard time answering is way better than trying to argue or attack. Make HER do the research that might start opening her eyes a bit.
Good luck!

Breaking News - Ramblings of the Governing Body
by Edward Elder inif you're still unsure about the hotline to heaven (aka fds), then have a laugh at this truly pathetic story being circulated by the dubs - comments from stephen lett of the groaning body - see below.. to summarise lett's mind-control ramblings:.
angels are directing jws in the ministry - of course!if you don't answer the door - god will kill youif you don't listen to us - god will kill youbrainwashing of minor children is a real winnercalling on empty houses may seem like a waste of time - but to dubs it's the work of angelsfor the bethel drone monitoring this post - wake up and smell the coffee, before you're made to leave your cosy brooklyn office and hack the streets calling on empty houses.. you can be sure lett will be right behind you!.

Thanks Edward Elder! I just checked and, golly, I've got five dash lights flashing like crazy! Holy cow! Looks like I better speed dial the elders!
Welcome.

Gamaliel, I remember you from earlier years. Good to hear from you again.
I had a few friends in the art department - Sau Ling Chain and Eunice Spatz - who are still there. I totally agree with your subliminal image post. It was excellent and helps put an end to that stupidity from an insider with no agenda. Thanks.
I often wonder about the Spatzs and the Chains. They are bright people,Cyril Chain got an engineering degree before coming to Bethel, works in writing and used to teach Chinese at Gilead, and I know they have had some issues. Eunice's brother is a close friend of mine. We had a hour-long phone conversation yesterday. He's a faded JW in Florida. He feels that they are probably one of those couples, now in their 60s, who just keep their thoughts to themselves and know Bethel will take care of them as long as there is a Bethel.
Also, did you know a George and Phyllis Smith - he ran the photography department at one time, I believe? Not sure if they are still at Bethel, but haven't heard differently. Their son married a close friend of mine. Both are still JWs, but they are now divorced. An odd arrangement.
Thanks for these posts.

A phone call from the elders.
by strawberry cake inmy husband and i left the org about 6 months ago and in voicing our views we were shunned.
the elders who were 'friends' treated us with cold efficiency to the letter of their law.
one older elder played 'good cop' and invited us over for a heart-to-heart.

Strawberry Cake,
Got your PM. Check a few of my recent threads. I can't get too specific on some things, as my info sources still need some protection.

Dogs in field service
by keyser soze inthe thread about angels in the ministry reminded me of this.
there was a lot of rural territory in the congregation that i attended, which meant a lot of houses with dogs out running loose.
some of these dogs were fairly vicious.

In 1969, I was attacked by a CAT in field service! A Siamese just plastered himself on my chest and left hand. It was not pleasant, and I was not protected by angels!
I got the last laugh, though, as the cat was spayed because of the incident!
This reminds me also of another JW urban legend, several versions of which I have heard. The story goes that two JWs go to the door, the householder is pissed and holding back a vicious dog. He threatens to unleash the dog if they don't leave. The second bro, who in most of the stories I heard, is described as an ex-military guy, a new JW and learned to handle dogs in the military, then pipes up and tells the hh that they will leave, but don't release the dog on them or he will kill the dog. The hh then releases the dog and the ex-military bro kills it with a single blow.
I know this story is bullshit, as I've heard from cops who work K-9 that there is no way any man or woman can protect themselves from an attacking dog with some sort of blow or martial arts.
Anyone else ever hear this JW myth?

No surprise to me. Me = High IQ. Me = Atheist. Pretty obvious conclusion.
OK, no nasty responses. It's all true, but I'm yanking chains here.
But I think the critical thinking skills post offers a good reason for this correlation.

Just found out that a woman I studied with and helped bring into the Witnesses - all five of her kids have left the Org.
That's good. The number grows.
