a few weeks ago i sent an e-mail to an old friend.
he and i served for many years together as elders in the same congregation.
he is still a jw, but he stepped down as an elder many years ago, went back to college (he began studying when he was in college and quit college to pioneer!
With this friend, I can't quite figure it out. He stepped down as an elder years ago. He was one of the best, and used extensively. Now, there's none of that, and I think his secular career wouldn't suffer a bit from his leaving.
He does have one daughter in. His other two kids have nothing to do with the Witnesses.
That's what makes it so strange to me. Why stay when he has all his own issues with the WTS?

ATJ, good points. I think the 1914 Generation change showed me how cynical the GB had become.
Besty - yeah, I think there are some legal aspects to this, if it's actually happening.

i just heard this week that the wilmington, vt congregation is being dissolved.
it is here in southern vermont, and i can remember when it was formed, probably about 30 years ago.. the congregation was always troubled, it seems, and there were so many personality conflicts in it that people who lived next to the kingdom hall would travel to the brattleboro, vt congregation to attend meetings!
a good percentage of witnesses that lived in that territory refused to go there and attended other congregations.. it seems that attendance has dwindled down to 20 or so, and so it is being disbanded.

I'm not sure how ending the CO arrangement is such a money saver for the WTS - essentially all the expenses are taken care of by the local congregations. They pay for the cars and insurance via a "donation" system.

He read the last one, because he discussed it with my ex-wife. It was about our grandson.
The only other time I've ever contacted him was when the Sept 2007 KM Question Box came out. I e-mailed him a copy of the info before the KM was available to him, and asked how something like that didn't upset him. This is a guy with a Masters and he is the author of the best selling Neurofeedback book on the market. He gives seminars on the subject all over the world.
I wondered how someone with his educational background could support an organization that discouraged any outside research on itself, and whether or not that didn't alarm him in any way.

2011 is interesting - but one of the other threads says Sept. 2009.
Strikes me as still rumor material if there are different dates floating around.
Also, if there is a CO School happening soon, which there is, it doesn't seem likely that the arrangement is ending in a few months.

Perhaps you're right Gregor.
But, one interesting thing I noticed is that it was ONLY JWs who shunned me. My wife's best friends who were not JWs might have been pissed off at me that I left her for another woman, and many of them knew a hell of a lot more than this guy did, BUT, NONE of the non-JWs have ever refused to talk with me.
In fact, most of them have been downright decent to me, and with the passing now of several years, I get no bad reactions from her non-JW friends and co-workers. And this is small town America we're talking about here.
It seems it is only the JW mentality that feels the need to judge and punish.

Yeah, I'm interested to see if there is anything to the end of the CO arrangement story.
They were talking about it ending at the end of Sept. this year, but we're sure not hearing anything to substantiate that.
One interesting thing, my JW ex-wife said today that ANYTHING that happens within the WTS seems to end up getting posted all over the Internet first!

a few months ago there were some fairly authoritative threads that the pioneer hours were being decreased.
that has not happened.
also, there was a thread that the co arrangement was going to be dramatically changed in the next year or two, and i got some private notes from some excellent sources attesting to that.
Thanks for the links and info. I was talking with my JW ex-wife about this today. I was wrong on the Pioneer hours, so I'm very wary on this one.

Min, you're probably right. I wasn't trying to win him over, though. Just telling him how I feel, and that's definitely part of it.
This is a guy who knows about the talkorigins.com site. He's not ignorant of the problems with the Bible.
Sometimes you want to say, "Hey, you're judging me as unworthy to talk to cause I'm no longer a JW and I'm living with my girlfriend? Well, I think you're incredibly ignorant to believe that Adam was created 6,038 years ago and that Jehovah is about to kill 6 billion people to show how much he loves humankind!"
So, I guess that maybe the sheep and camel herders comment was a little nicer!
