  Well, you live in a different JW world than I ever inhabited! You sound like "a nuttier than usual elder!" Sorry, but from my experience, what you wrote is pure nonsense. You don't need a $1million spy system to get the goods on a nutty elder or his wife, just go out in service with them, or have them over to lunch and keep their wine glassed filled. Much cheaper and far more entertaining!

  Appreciate your expertise on this, but it still sounds so-so to me. It also seems to me that we had that quoted post on here sometime in the last couple of years. the one from the person who says they're familiar with the Bethel computer system.
  
  Is it possible that a lot of this stuff is just normal on any large computer system in a corporation? The line that raises a red flag for me is how they brought in some ex-CIA types known as the Plumbers to install some of this security stuff. That just sounds too unrealistic, sorry.
  
  And what good would it do them? Exactly how would they use the info? Could they use it legally? And wouldn't the danger of having a bunch of Bethelites monitoring this site and being exposed to this info day in and day out be worse than just ignoring the site?
  
  Anyway, I don't know shit about these complex security systems, so I'll leave it to you experts. I am pretty good at picking up the hints that something is a line of baloney, and this has a few of those earmarks.

  Well, Tyrone, I think there are a lot of folks on this board who would beg to differ. I'm one. Protect what you have to for yourself. I totally respect that.

  I get out to see as much music as I can - attended a concert today in fact. But I must say that I tend to stay below the radar. My last big name concert was seeing Bob Dylan about 4 years ago, and it's probably the last one of its type I'll go to. Love those concerts by wonderful musicians that you don't have to pay $75 for a ticket, and you still get to hear world class music from kick ass performers.

  its been a while since i last posted on the site.. as a wittness i was governed by what i said was supposed to do and even act towards other human beings,my sinful life was ripped away by people using pages of the bible, showing what god wanted from me as a person,unfortunately being scriptually replaced by a character that i never realized, nor truth be told acceptable to jehovah god, but under the guise of a christian, we accept all that is brainwashed into our silly minds.

  accepting all and everything without question,therfore this is known as being brainwashed, without you even knowing it iike so many within the congregation, was forced to adapt to a hidden manifesto which was be seen but not heard.

  complain about any of the elders and you will be disfellowshiped, most of my time i was serving jehovah with a muzzle on my face which would only allow me to speak if i agreed with the elders i wasnot blind but what i saw and experienced as a wittness left me cold.

  i recieved my copy today and have only spent an hour or so in looking it over.. i want to commend barbara anderson and those who assisted her , this is very well written and compelling.

  if you haven't ordered a copy yet, i encourage you to do so.. (forgive me if i word this badly my awake college education might show ) my initial reaction to what i've been reading is how the watchtower society lawyers, headquarters etc does not apper to be any kind of organization led by god.

  it appears to be a business trying to protect it's treasures stored upon the earth.

  Interesting thread, and I've seen the same myself.

  I'm at my ex-wife's any time of the day or evening working on projects, just the two of us there, and we think nothing of it. She's an active JW. I always hated that the WTS's view is if a male and female within a 50-year age range are near each other, they'll jump into bed in seconds if left alone!

  I often heard over the years the old, "even if this isn't the truth, it's still the best way of life" nonsense myself. Maybe that's becoming less and less true.

  Did You Know Many Dumb Elders?

  i did.. there were some pretty sharp guys but there were a lot of not so bright ones.

  the worst elders were the ones that thought they were very intelligent but really were stupid.. one elder that fits that description was a man that loved to speculate on prophecies, watchtower wording, someone's facial expressions or mannerisms.

  he truly believed he was more enlightened than anyone else.

  I knew a lot of not so smart elders, and I also think that inept is a very good word. My old congregation seems to have more than it's share now. A couple of those new elders came with the CO or another elder to see me a few times when I was leaving. They literally had nothing to say, and admitted it. They were just incredibly intimidated.

  I also knew a few kind and loving brothers, who, while not so bright, at least did a little good for people.

  The most dangerous elder I knew was named Claude Burkett. He was a former Bethelite who special pioneered in Maine and Vermont, was an elder at 23, and in his mind, fast tracking for the circuit work. He could be as cold and confrontational as any person I've ever met, had an encyclopaedic knowledge of WTS teachings, worked as hard physically as anyone I've ever known, and he had a very high regard for himself and his abilities.

  He will never realize the amount of damage he did to people, as he always saw himself as god's warrior. One family he studied with ended up in counseling years later - and tons more carried a lot of guilt Claude hoisted on them.

  At the same time he did a huge amount of things to help people, often in a physical way. I remember him dropping off a load of firewood for my family one cold winter day when I was deathly sick. Things like that. He was a spiritual "bull in a china shop" as one CO described him. He once told me that if he had "a scripture or a Watchtower quote" to back him up, he wouldn't back down from anyone.

  Your Opinion: What Do You Think Of Legally Going After Individual Elders?

  since the society has told the elders that they are basically on their own, why don't we give more thought to suing the elders-----not just the watchtower society?.

  when i was an elder ii was very concerned that i might get sued and be liable in a lawsuit.

  it was one of the reasons i didn't want to be an elder..

  Yeah, that's my conclusion. I actually thought that, after several months, they'd backed off. Then late in the year I hear an annoucement was made a month or two earlier.
