I've had the same two, Gregor, and a few other big ones.
You're about due for yet another. My guess is it'll finally be realizing that Obama is really the answer this country needs to get out of this eight year hell hole of twisted, mind-fucking Bushdom!
Ha! I won't be holding my breath waiting for you...

Ever have one of these? I had two.
by Gregor in3 a (1): a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something (2) : an intuitive grasp of reality through something (as an event) usually simple and striking (3) : an illuminating discovery b: a revealing scene or moment.
the word, of course, is epiphany.
my first was the "simple and striking" realization that i was in a manipulative religous cult.

Dishonorable mention

Just read his 2008 paper. According to it:
John Bowen Brown II was a JW from 1984, when he was 14, until 1995, when he left the group.
Brown belonged to an anti-cult group for six years and was associated with Wally shiel, a deprogrammer.
In 2003 he had a break with Shiel, and also became involved in the Wicca movement. He left the anti-cult movement and has subsequently been involved writing about groups that he considers are attacking the human and civil rights of cults and religious groups like the Witnesses.
It's not exactly clear, but it seems that Brown's argument is that "only governments can legally commit human rights violations," while private organizations can't. BUT, then he goes on to write that when a private organization commits the same things, it amounts to "an illegal act within the framework of international human rights law, a human rights abuse has been committed." The government is then responsible for punishing that private organization.
I'm not sure that I understand why there is a difference between a human rights violation by a government and an illegal human rights abuse by a private organization. Maybe this is on a legal level?

Just realized the original posts go back to October 2006.
So, did the good reverend just find this thread?

Wow, PUC, pretty unprofessional response there!
So are you the Rev. Brown? I need a play card here to figure out who's who.
I also take issue that disfellowshipping is not "torture cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and punishment" intended to get someone to repent from a supposed sin.
For a child to be forbidden to talk to a parent or grandparent, or vice versa, would be considered cruel, inhuman and degrading by a lot of people I know.

More "new light"? Has anyone got the July 15th WT yet?
by slimboyfat ini hear there is more "new light" in this magazine.
nothing as big as the "generation" change or scrapping 1935 for the annointed.
it might be something to do with some of jesus' parables.

"My latest insight was in the June 15 WT - the 2nd last article near the end - "we have good reason to uproot
any sign of ambition in our lives"
They've got that nailed as far as the house to house ministry is concerned! I'll even admit to it - the less I could do, the better, and that was true of the vast majority of Witnesses I knew. We did though, have exemplary ambition and drive when it came to break time!
"HOW CAN JWs KEEP SWALLOWING THIS SWILL? This has got to be the biggest circle jerk cult in the world."
Very nicely put, Gregor.

Having Sex With a Hot Sister
by Seeker4 ini was hoping that title would draw you in!
i was just thinking this morning about a lot of the judicial meetings i was in over the years.
i was remembering how, if it involved immorality and a good looking sister, it would not be unusual for one of the elders to comment on that.

Skyking, good to hear from you.
That was exactly the kind of questioning I would never put up with. It's absolutely unnecessary.
If they tried that today, I'd tear them a new one for sure!!

Min, I was always respectful, and any committee I was on the questioning was always cut way short of what some of the friends experienced with elders getting all the gory details. I never put up with any of that crap.
But I do think in the minds of some elders, a hot sister was "asking" for it. My brother in law, an elder, even quoted that idiot judge who said an attractive woman in sexy clothing had "asked" to be raped. That attitude really pissed me off.
But I do think that it's an insane system that has you judging the sexual conduct of others when scripturally, we're all guilty of the same thing.
Tinker - Yeah. I've seen that happen.

Are Any Of You Having Difficulty Making Ends Meet?
by minimus inhas this economy been very tough on you and your family???.
how are you coping with high gas prices and the cost of living?
?.
-
Seeker4
Yeah. I'm paying my ex-wife's car payment - $350 - plus half the expenses on that house, expenses here with Lori, and the rising prices have taken us to the edge.
Gas is ridiculous - I'm in the process of getting a motorcycle on the road.- Using my tax refund for that.
I always shop food sales to keep the costs down, and I put in two raised beds to grow some of our own food this summer. I used to pay 49 cents a pound for chicken thighs on sale. They were $1.99 at the last sale.
No raises at ALL in three years!!
Yeah, this economy sucks!! I lost the equivalent of $1000 in my 401K during the first quarter of this year.
I'm checking my savings account for when I get the economic incentive payment. I'll just use it as a buffer to keep me afloat for a while.
This administration will go down in history as a huge disaster. The war, the economy, the environment. I'd like to have a government that protected us from credit card companies that can charge you 20%, 30% or more and outrageous penalties for being a day late on a payment! Instead, we've got a government that protects them from us!!

when the other shoe drops.....
by winnower inso the rumor mill threw you a bone to chew on and now you assume the society is crumbling.
in true tower fashion, they have once again only allowed you to know a half truth.
in the next few months you will see the society's stronghold on your loved ones become stronger than it has ever been.

So, on June 1st we will all know if we have just been listening to another false prophet - or not.
Wall Street will collapse in May, eh? That's pretty specific prophecy. If it doesn't happen will you come back on here and 'fess up that you're a false prophet and don't know shit about what you're talking about?!
If you're right, I'll become an ardent supporter.
My money is not on Winnower!
We need to remember this thread and make sure it doesn't disappear.

I was remembering how, if it involved immorality and a good looking sister, it would not be unusual for one of the elders to comment on that. It seems, as I look back on that rather sick judicial committee arrangement, that a group of men were casting judgment on somebody for doing what they themselves were actually thinking about doing.
Yet the Bible says to even think about having sex with someone is just as bad as doing it.
So you end up with this perverse situation where you've got a group of men judging some guy for doing what they are thinking about doing themselves and are scripturally just as guilty for.
It reeks of hypocrisy.
