Where I live is well known to the local BOE - half of whom I trained!
Not one call over the past 3 years. JWs did drive in yard one day when I was out watering the garden. They saw me, slammed on the brakes and backed out, me giving them a big smile and hello.
We did have the last tract left in the door, and a mag one time, I think.
If they did call on me, I would tell them to make an appointment to come back, as I refuse to take another cold call from a JW elder. I think it's unbelievably rude to just stop at someone's house to have a discussion like that, catching people off guard, without an appointment.
I'd love to have them sit down and explain a few things to me!
A question: If the ex-JW is a known apostate, to JW thinking, are they supposed to still try and contact them?
I do think the elders avoid this work as it puts them in very uncomfortable and vunerable positions.

Elders supposed contact DF&DA once every year???!!!???
by Quotes ini was speaking to my mom on the phone yesterday, and despite my trying to avoid it, we got to talking about wacky jw topics -- again.
actually, it was nearly unavoidable, since she had just returned from her summer convention.
aside: nice way to celebrate your wedding anniversary, mom & dad; at an assembly!

Hello! Is there a list of WTS changes since 1995?
by Mr. Ted ina young friend told me about this discussion forum.
i completely "stopped" being a jw around 1995. i was wondering if there is a succinct list -- somewhere on-line -- of changes/events that the wts has gone through in the last 12 years?
i haven't received any of the publications or really spoken with any jws in many years.

Yeah - dropping the literal view of the 144,000 would be huge - and I wouldn't have missed that!
To be truthful, I never really believed it was a literal number for several reasons. I think at some point they will probably change it from a literal view to viewing it as a symbolic number referring to the complete group of anointed who will reign in heaven.

Thanks Randy! Very interesting.
A 1/3 reduction in Bethel staff was about what I'd suspected.
I was surprised that only 11-12% will remain in full time service - and just a handful will go back to Reg Pioneering! So much for this "staff reduction" filling the congregations with much needed Pioneers! Looks like we've got a couple of thousand potentially pissed off ex-Bethelites. Come! Join us here at JWD! You are welcome here and we will not lay you off.

My ex father-in-law went. I think it's just POs and I would assume they are responsible for their expenses traveling. I'm sure congregations help.

I would be surprised at any high level change for the better. I'm assuming it'll continue as it has over the last decade - taking a harder line on all those things it views as a threat: education, the Internet, study of literature outside that produced by the WTS, independent thinking, questioning the GB on any level.
I also think that approach will backfire and cause more members to leave.

Yes. Jaracz definitely had serious health issues in the last year or two.

Interesting news.
Would explain the crackdown on education again.
And as far as Losch being less charismatic than Jaracz - come on! - two peas in a pod there!
Viewing allowing the membership to pursue education beyond high school as an "apostate plot" - it's good to see the WTS is being passed on to such able hands.
I agree with several posters who've commented on these recent changes that there is no rhyme nor reason to this. It's not making sense to me. Maybe it'll get clearer as we learn of more changes, but right now it seems like a bunch of random changes one following another.
Thanks for the info.

Marei,
Thanks so much for responding. Care to share any of your experience?
Happy retirement, dear lady! At the present rate, I'll be dead about 7.8 years when I'll be able to afford retirement. Oh, unless my Pioneering years pension kicks in...

"A lesbian GB member would have to have had a sex change operation."
OR, have been the first woman on the GB - either way I'd bet that would bring in a few thousand more hits. Hey, we were talking fantasy thread there. I kinda thought that would have been obvious!
