  i would like to thank everyone who is a part of this community.

  i have been abused by this billion dollar evil religion since i was born.

  i am now in my late thirties and have been battling depression issues over my former abuses by this nongoverment organization.

  VERY well said. I had a heart to heart and learned the story of my JW friend's grandmother whose mother was the reason for the entire family's involvment. In listening to the story, your words aptly describe what appeared to be a contributing factor for the involvement.

  ...hmmm, wondering if the intended goal was to use that phrase to enhance the victory claim.

  Operating on a surplus of only $60 million?

  I did a research paper in college on the results with respect to leadership appointments in the public vs. private sectors. Wish I still had it. Anyways, we all know that many successful private sector CEO and Board appointments are based on previous performance in leadership roles elsewhere.

  So, if leadership appointments have been uh... spiritual - what can be expected? To my knowledge, these "leaders" have no real-life experiences, let alone experience in understanding what it takes to run a financially successful company. Lots of CEOs and business owners have prayed for success, but many have left with more "experience" than financial success.

  I think I'm quickly buying in to the notion that the Society's earnings are in stay afloat mode.

  I've read how the Society may have successfully fended off additional partakers by rejoicing in the near extinction of the generation of 1914. That theory had to be thrown into the casket of the cold dead body of the last JW of that generation.

  I'm curious, is there ANY chance that some JWs are reading the New Testament and coming to a belief that they should be looking forward to a heavenly hope?

  Okay, all... I've read all of these.

  Let's see if I'm absolved of any sin. I may not be so to go in to this conversation maybe dangerous.

  Right now, I'm struggling with how to apologize for my delivery. I can peddle backwards and say that the religion is, at the very least, an HCG but I have to be careful.

  Depending on how things go, I may post when I get home.

  Would I be the punching bag?

  poor cognac's challenge has me thinking.. as a non-jw, if i were to marry this jw, would the congregation attribute problems we would encounter to him being married to me?

  Re-reading all of your advice now that I can view it on a 21 inch IMac and not a 3 inch Droid screen.

  Flipper: I love the idea of asking if he sees anything good outside of the Witnesses. A few days ago, he freaked me completely out with some language about the world being controlled by Satan. I told him I choose to believe that I'm protected by Jesus so Satan and whatever his business is was not my problem. He continued on with asking about the children who died and asked if that was from God. I explained that some of us believe that after dying, one goes to a better place. We both realized the conversation was going to go nowhere at that point. LOL

  JGnat: Worried that even in attending, my annoyance factor would rise. I might even feel compelled to raise my hand and answer a question.... don't tempt me... everyone who knows me would tell you I'd do it. I'm going to look for this book. It ought to be a fascinating read.

  Everyone: You all are giving me a broad and bleak picture of this whole situation. Thanks, I think.

  Going to read my other thread of advice before I head out to meet him.

  Starting to think that saying no words and just giving him a New Years hug at midnight and leaving would be better than saying anything at all.

  ironically, the first two "examples" have the nice jws directing the householder to a doctor.

  too bad no such instruction is given to the elders dealing with suicidal jws.... some of the other examples have the typical jw suicide antidote- meetings and becoming a jw.... .

  hahaha! oh no! To notice flowers and fresh smelling people I have to go!

  He had someone set up a study for me with a "nice" lady in his hall. She was very odd. It lasted two sessions before she left a message on my phone telling me she would not be meeting with me. she was calling me names on my answering message.... as far as I'm concerned, "faultfinder" is negative. I think he was a little embarrassed about her behavior.

  This is all not good.

  He often asks me after our tough discussions if I ever see anything good about the organization that I could share with him.

  I wish there could be something, but theres not.

  Rethinking our conversations, I'm guessing he's hoping I convert.

  I already said Im not joining this cult. Thats what got me in trouble.....hate this cult.

  At work, hard to type on phone so forgive me for not being thorough.

  I am loving your ideas and thoughts! The notecard idea is perfect, except that i wouldnt know the standard responses. Please help me.

  I have read CCMC but it was a library book so its not in my possession anymore.

  Even if he and I dont make it, if my efforts get another person to question, its a win against the Society at this point.

  Happy.... no offense taken. i didnt know some were open with their dating.... thats something to consider.
