New magazine Carts
by jonno12225 innews from my wife from the recent meeting is that our congregation will be recieving 2 new magazine carts for market witnessing.
we live in a small market town in north yorkshire and have regular street markets.. the congregation is small (75+ publishers, -1 now) so it seems that this is being rolled out pretty conprehensivly now to all congs.
i still have no info as to whether each congregation has to purchase these from the hq or costings per unit..

Does the WTBS emphasize these two verses for control?
by cog_survivor insomething i came to understand that the worldwide church of god did effectively was to cut people off from from their feelings and intellect in favor of the "appropriate" thoughts and feelings.. how they did this was by frequently emphasizing these two verses:.
proverbs 3:5 - trust in the lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.. jeremiah 17:9 - the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?.
by means of these two verses i was taught not to trust myself with regards to either my ability to reason or if my gut was telling me something was wrong.. i was wondering if these two verses were emphasized for jws as well..

Cog! That's the Korean cult, right? My best friend has recently lost a niece to that cult!
All: My friend and I were making comparisons a few months ago. Her college graduate niece is required to live with 4 other cult members in an apartment. I was sick listening to the control they're exercising over this child. They've blocked ALL of her free time.
Congratulations on getting out Cog! How long were you in? and out of curiousity, were you recruited from a college campus?

I can't wait to see the Brother who promised me a return visit about blood - that was almost a year ago I think
One elder told me he was going to go to the library and get me my answers on 607. I'll be looking for him for sure...
I'm told that there are Witnesses who stand on a corner by a 7-11 every morning holding magazines. I'm not a morning person, otherwise I'd find and ask THEM if THEY have time to go to the library.
If they "roll" out this idea, these poor folks really ARE sitting ducks.

God and the Super Bowl
by Christ Alone indid anyone notice the frequency that god was mentioned during the super bowl?
i was impressed.
with the rampant atheism here, sometimes it's easy to forget that belief is still very strong.

God loves the Steelers. That's why they remain the only team in the NFL with six rings.
Some have life stories that have made God a part of our reality. I, for one, have experiences that were definitely not coincidence.
Too sleepy to tell them... sorry.

"Church" Music
by NeverKnew inplease frame this for the non-jw here.... yesterday, i was in the car with a jw friend as miscellaneous tunes from my ipod were playing.
a "church" song came on that i love.
this song makes me think of him in that he has told me "jehovah has been with me in some of the worst times of my life" and that he "doesn't want to leave jehovah.

I was a classical flutist and played at churches for the holidays when I was in high school to make extra money. Listening to a flute and organ with candlelights burning is really peaceful. Heck, if anyone has ever heard a pipe organ LIVE and played well, it's absolutely amazing. I listen to chants and spa music too!
Swinging to the other end of the spectrum, when I need to get my chin up, I listen to Black Gospel music. I LOVE those choirs... :)

I spoke up today
by hoser inthe fire was burning within me to say something so i mustered up the courage and did it.. .
we were for lunch after the meeting sitting at the same table as a pioneer sister, her unbaptized publisher bible study, and the bible study's teenage son.
the pioneer was telling the unbaptised publisher about how no one from sodom and gomorrah would get a resurrection because they were killed directly by god's judgment.. this is where i had heard enough.

Thanks for the tips, Dazed. Fortunately, because of my questioning and with the help of the contributors on this forum, he may not be so sure he's in the one and ONLY true religion anymore.
I come here to understand the (sometimes) unspoken.
Are there articles that state that even the music of churches is evil?

Please frame this for the non-JW here...
Yesterday, I was in the car with a JW friend as miscellaneous tunes from my Ipod were playing. A "church" song came on that I love. This song makes me think of him in that he has told me "Jehovah has been with me in some of the worst times of my life" and that he "doesn't want to leave Jehovah." After some time on this forum, I'm able to translate this - he doesn't want to leave or get kicked out of the organization. Yeah... okay.
Here's what I observed. We were about five blocks from his parked car I was taking him to when the song came on and I told him the song made me think of him. At block four, he removed his seatbelt. At block three, with my "put your da$%* seatbelt on" ding blinging over the music, he was staring out of the front window looking like he was trying to leverage a Jedi mind trick to levitate his vehicle closer. At block two we got a red light and I detected that he was going to make a break for it, leap out of the car and run. I assured him I'd get him to his car (he could now see) - "no need to get out" and when we pulled up to his vehicle, it looked as though he couldn't get out of my car fast enough.
There was another time we were taking a long drive and everytime a "church" song came on, he seemed annoyed.
For me, if he turned on one of his Kingdom Hall melodies and said it reminded him of something I said or at one time felt, I'd listen to see if I agreed.
If you don't agree with the lyrics, isn't it still okay to appreciate the melody or beat? Heck, do you know how many lyrics I suffered through with my teenager? It was the catchy tunes that always made them tolerable. I found myself being at da club cause it was my birthday as I shook my moneymaker.
Am I reading his reaction inaccurately?
