today's watchtower lesson touched on the history of hezekiah's reign, and then made a surprising modern-day application.
having used my time before the meeting to research the underlying material instead of highlighting my magazine, i personally found this to be an upsetting study, and decided to put this warning here in the hopes that some active witnesses read it.. the most important thing i want to say to you is that the actual flow of events in this bible account were severely misrepresented, and that there are some disturbing implications in the distortions that were made.
1. hezekiah's father ahaz makes himself a vassal to assyria out of fear of their overwhelming might (2 kings 16:7, 8).. 2. upon becoming king, hezekiah rebels against assyria (2 kings 18:7).
Marked. Thanks!

Great Job Blondie! :)
Doesn’t the NT say that Jesus will fight? Why no mention even?
Loved that...
what happened to the original christian churches named in the bible - philadelphia, thessolonica, ephesus, smyrna, pergamum, thyatira, sardis, and laodicea to name a few?
one would think that since these were the original churches, if we could trace the history of these churches down to our day, we could find who is preaching truth today.
obviously this doesn't lie with jws because it is a new religion, although i do not doubt the sincerity of their belief.. there are two likely cases that i can see: 1) these became what is now known as the roman catholic church, 2) the roman catholic church was an apostate christianity that seperated from these true churches and used their power to snuff out the true churches from history.. which one do you think is correct?
With Christianity being a blend of Gentiles and Jews and, save for the Pentateuch, even the Jews not agreeing on the "official" canon of their own scriptures (some recognized only the Pentateuch).
Didn't Paul tell us that it was only human to follow your preferred teacher at 1 Cor 3:4? Different voices speak to different personalities - nothing wrong with that.
there is a certain user to whom i suggested using dropbox, and the user said he had problems with it, that his computer ended up full of game advertisements.. please, to those who have used dropbox before, can you give your honest evaluation of dropbox?.
i am trying to convince this user that i did not suggest to him something that was bad, but actually good... that it helps to share huge files, no matter what their size.. .
please tell this user... i don't want to lose this user's trust.. .
I've used DropBox and never had a problem.
I'm partial to Evernote. It's not just file storage. Great for organizing everything - including my thoughts during my conversations with my JW friends. There's a free version, but I'm finding that Premium is worth the money.
i've heard this said in other posts, so now i'm going to combine it in one post.. the $28 million awarded to conti is only drop in the bucket for what they are worth.. there would have to be 100 s of successful sex abuse law suites before they would feel it.
quite frankly i don't reckon there would be enough with the right circumstances to have a successful case against wt.
having a dozen or so cases isn't going to break the bank.
The new bibles probably brought in a hundred million or more.
They weren't free?
in the u.s. there are fewer venues this year, but they will be held in larger facilities.
as long as i can remember my family travelled no more than 2 hours to attend and in the last few years the dc was local (within a few minutes travel).
this year my family is driving 6 hours to a major u.s. city.
"Hmm...." says the Outsider. Other than the financial windfalls, can another angle be considered?
It's known that being assigned to a congregation makes it easier for others to track activity (or inactivity) and follow-up on attendance because the group is so small.
Conversely, wouldn't scrambling assemblies and conventions (small to large then back to small with a rearrangement of congregations expected to attend in an area) contribute to an inability for the average "Joe" to discern the REAL participation rate... especially since "Joe" doesn't have access to the raw numbers?
Filling a large venue creates the illusion of MANY adherents ("Oh, NeverKnew, there were THOUSANDS there - from different countries even!") and then breaking it back down to smaller venues creates the illusion of "Oh, NeverKnew, there are SO many now in the Truth that we had to be broken down into smaller groups. The larger venue wouldn't have held all of us."
Is there ANY chance that rearranging venues is intentionally making it impossible for the adherent to start asking him/herself, "hey...where'd everybody go?"
Even better, could this be the "life-saving direction that we receive from Jehovah's organization" that "may not appear practical" but that "all... must be ready to obey" even at the expense of "secular education, material things, or human institutions" (go ahead and lose your job and home while bowing to our demands).
Could next week's words be leveraged, not as a prelude to one Kool-Aid event, but as a thought-stopper for WHATEVER a person's issue with the organization might be?
my wife is preparing to spend hundreds on a lap top to take into the field service.
i carefully mentioned that the wts has gone from condemning the web to now using it.. her reply" no they never condemned it just said to people to be careful in using it".
my memories of convention speakers must be different and" this is the way things are now; its all downloaded from the web".. with that as a given then why isnt the wts issuing computers to any one who wants one?
for me is very strange that the yearbook for 2014 is not out yet on the internet and/or gongregations.
is strange to me because it is a book that comes annually, and no word yet from the borg of it.
you don't expect something like that from the wt/fds/gb to be dlayed that much.. it makes me wonder, what's going on???
RUB! STOP IT! That's not nice! *giggling*
