Mac Book Pro with Retina or Dell XPS 15? (both with new Haswell processors)
by Simon ini've been in need of a new laptop for a long time.
no, i mean it - a really long time.
the old dell that we have has a floppy lid and is woefully underpowered although it does build up my upper body strength every time i pick it up.. the last 6 months has been a bad time to buy something new though with the haswell processors on the horizon promising better battery life and also screen technology seems to have been leaping ahead recently to a new hi-dpi standard.. so apple finally released their mac book pro and at the same time dell has released an xps 15 ultrabook which looks like a pretty good alternative and probably better 'value'.. pro's and con's?

I design applications for an entity that leverages PCs. This question was often asked of me and I regularly discouraged ownership of a piece of equipment that only a small percentage of the population was using.
When faced with a buying decision, I thought it professionally worthwhile to have some familiarity with "the other" environment so in 2009 I purchased an IMac as my home computer.
I now know that I was a totally malinformed idiot. Five years later, my Imac still takes 36 seconds to go from a cold boot to surfing the net. I haven't had to invest a moment in calls to Apple, virus protection, uninstalling/re-installing software, or dealing with peripherals that didn't seem to communicate with this machine.
Congratulations on your purchase. :)

What are the feelings/thoughts within 24-48 hours of exposure to an undeniably true (for you) TATT?
by NeverKnew inmany of us know where we were during 9/11 or when john kennedy and martin luther king were killed.. it seems that when faced with ttatt, real truth is dismissed as "ol' light" or "an imperfect group of men" but from what i gather, many of you, at some point, were hit with a component of ttatt that shattered all of those cliches that allowed you to brush off the obvious reality that something was very wrong.
some of you may remember the hours following your earliest exposures to an undeniably true tatt.
did you zone completely out?

The Gospel Contrasted With the Watchtower Doctrine of the Ransom
by cofty inthis is an article i wrote back in '97 or '98 when i was a christian.
it is based on my personal experience of the watchtower's teachings as well as further reading of the earlier writings of russell and rutherford.. disclaimer - in my opinion, what follows shows clearly that the watchtower's doctrine of the ransom is not based on any sensible interpretation of scripture.
however i no longer believe in any version of theism.

I'm not a JW so I don't know what kind of response this will illicit but here's a point I'd make with respect to #3.
"Maybe you could help me out with the word "firstfruits" in Rev 14:4. After reviewing 1 Cor. 15:20-23, I'm now wondering; if Christ is the 'firstfruit' of those who have fallen asleep, who are the 144,000 'firstfruits' of? If there are 'firstfruits' shouldn't there be subsequent 'fruits?'"

Witnesses: Why The 1/19/14 WT Lesson Is Dangerous
by Apognophos intoday's watchtower lesson touched on the history of hezekiah's reign, and then made a surprising modern-day application.
having used my time before the meeting to research the underlying material instead of highlighting my magazine, i personally found this to be an upsetting study, and decided to put this warning here in the hopes that some active witnesses read it.. the most important thing i want to say to you is that the actual flow of events in this bible account were severely misrepresented, and that there are some disturbing implications in the distortions that were made.
1. hezekiah's father ahaz makes himself a vassal to assyria out of fear of their overwhelming might (2 kings 16:7, 8).. 2. upon becoming king, hezekiah rebels against assyria (2 kings 18:7).

History And The Search For True Christianity
by pronomono inwhat happened to the original christian churches named in the bible - philadelphia, thessolonica, ephesus, smyrna, pergamum, thyatira, sardis, and laodicea to name a few?
one would think that since these were the original churches, if we could trace the history of these churches down to our day, we could find who is preaching truth today.
obviously this doesn't lie with jws because it is a new religion, although i do not doubt the sincerity of their belief.. there are two likely cases that i can see: 1) these became what is now known as the roman catholic church, 2) the roman catholic church was an apostate christianity that seperated from these true churches and used their power to snuff out the true churches from history.. which one do you think is correct?

With Christianity being a blend of Gentiles and Jews and, save for the Pentateuch, even the Jews not agreeing on the "official" canon of their own scriptures (some recognized only the Pentateuch).
Didn't Paul tell us that it was only human to follow your preferred teacher at 1 Cor 3:4? Different voices speak to different personalities - nothing wrong with that.
