so i have gotten into arguements with my wife in the past about this cult.
now a days after reading steve hassan books...i just try and avoid anything jdub with her.
try to keep her in authentic mode..(not sure she really has one).
I don't know if this will help you. I've never been a JW. All I can offer is the frame from which I've come.
James was an apostle to the Jews. (Galatians 2:9) James was speaking to Jews. (James 1:2) He was using terms Jews, who had spent thousands of years in a works-based salvation, would understand. In order to gain acceptance you had to DO something. They were trying to impose that on Gentiles (Galations 1). But Paul argued adamantly against the Gentile's participation in this set of rules. (Acts 15)
Glad I'm a Gentile.

hey people, .
i am soon going into a kh for the first time and i could use some advice around etiquette etc.
i know next to nothing besides the fundamental beliefs of jws, i personally dont believe in any religion, and that stance isnt ever going to change, however i don't want to come across as rude or disrespectful.
Hi Rathernotsay...
Non-JW here... my recommendation based on my experience?... They "play nice" for the Memorial. If you want to really know what kind of things your kids are hearing - you gotta catch them off guard and go to a regular service. Even better - go to a service at a Kingdom Hall where nobody knows you... show up late so nobody can talk to you about what made you show up or who you're connected to and leave early.
OH, the hate speech... It just doesn't stop.
Is that supposed to be a solar system in the background?
Where's Pleiades?
One very successful ex JW asked those who approached him (years ago)
"End is right around the corner?... Okay, well do I have to be stupid in the new system?"
i have to thank tv.jw!!!
(im not putting the complete link, but you know what i mean).
after showing my wife the 'trolley song' as we now call it, she was rolling on the floor in embarrassment and shock.. she shook her head, and was clearly troubled by what we watched.. little by little, the org is actually helping more to wake up!
1:05 in....
wow.
i can't believe i'm the first one to admit going to this meeting.
it was a 3 hour video stream from patterson.
the first bit was used to set up the need.
Small, medium and large. Hmm...
Step One: Build medium/large facility
Step Two: Consolidate congregations currently meeting in separate buildings to single more glamorous facility. Maybe even large enough for multiple congregations to have separate meetings simultaneously in the same facility
Step Three: Sell smaller buildings
Step Three: Make the rooms modifiable (like hotel meeting/convention rooms) so that the assemblies can be held in new facility
Step Four: Sell existing assembly halls
Step Five: Sell adherents on the increasing size of the organization even though growth has been stagnant.

i keep reading that jehovah's witnesses are in effect monsters.
i keep reading that they kinda leave chaos and distrust in their wake.
so i simply wondered if anyone had anything nice to say about them?.
They ARE nice people.
They nicely spend hours trudging through snow, freezing rain and unbearably hot temperatures disseminating information that the men give them to pass out.
They know what the men told them about God's name... oooh just wish they'd reiterate that whole point about the Roman Catholic Monk who made up the name "Jehovah" mentioned in their publication "Aid to Bible Understanding". None of the nice people seem to be knowledgeable about that.
And you are right! The nice people do "know the prophecies in the Bible and pretty much what they mean and what is on the horizon and beyond."... until their leaders change the prophecies in the Bible and pretty much what they mean for what is on the horizon and beyond. Right around then things get messy.
They are polite too. They believe it'd be rude to correct the group of men who analyze the Bible for them.
As for going door to door, they have been told to do it by scripture the leaders and won't stop up until this world's way of doing things ends the corporation sinks.
As for their hearts... well... go ahead and join; just don't ask any questions that challenge what the men say like others on the board have done.
They are really nice people.
my parents and i are discussing a quote that was made many years ago.
we know for a fact that it was made.
i have exhausted all of my resources to find it, and so i come here to this fine group to ask you about this quote.. the subject is about money.
