What I am most ashamed of.........

is not giving to charity while a jw.

this whole 'lets sit back and wait for jehovah to sort the world out while we do nothing' really gets to me.

there is so much to be done in this world, so many people doing good things but the jws just say bang on doors and sell watchtowers.. i did plenty of voluntary work in the jws pioneering my youth away but it was all so useless, now i do voluntary work to help people who want to be helped, as well as my job.

Ashamed? Noooooo!!!!! I think you're looking at your circumstances in a destructive way and I HATE that they've pushed people into guilt-based motivations as opposed to acheivement-based motivations.

Xanthippe, I suspect your experiences are what drive you with the motivation to do much more! It sounds like you're actually looking for sincere ways to help others. The beneficiaries of your efforts are now twice as blessed.

As someone who has never been involved with the JW lifestyle except to fall in love with one, I'm insisting that you consider the probability that without the experience of your JW life, your motivations and motivational levels would be a lot different.

Fear of discussing doubts

when i was having doubts about being a jehovah's witness, i was terrified to talk about them to anyone.

The narrator in the video above talked about "putting on the new personality." My JW friend just used that phrase with respect to his post-baptism "positive" changes and gave me the corresponding scripture! I can't believe the GB would be that bold to use terms that could contribute to an awakening if informed about cult practices and new identities.

He HAD had problems with the law in the past and said that he NEEDED a new personality. I asked if his changes could be attributed to maturity and he said no. :(

This conversation happened last weekend immediately following the Sunday meeting. *sigh*

I hate those meetings and I'm not even in them.

What about that Bar Exam you have to take to join the JWs? Where is she in this process? Did anyone review her test results before the reversal?

I do trust that the Governing Body would know of a biblically based standard to apply for these types of scenarios.

My review of the new JW.org website, and why Watchtower videos are landing them in a sticky situation!

i know some of the fuss about the newly revamped jw.org has died down, but i wanted to write a blog article by way of a "review" all the same.

i felt it was important to highlight the dishonesty and evasiveness of the information on the new website, particularly in the "faqs" section.

"charles taze russell died in 1916, the pyramid marker was installed in 1921 (5 years after his death), and the the masonic temple was built in the mid 1990s, these items have nothing to do with pastor russell's grave.

the masonic temple is not even on the cemetery grounds, it is a different property altogether.

Politics ... remember what I said?

Wow... just this morning, I was thinking about a post Outlaw made a few nights ago regarding "being in the right group." It went a little something like "As long as you're in the right group, truth doesn't matter" with respect to JWs.

I went back to middle school as I thought about the parallel behaviors with respect to that statement. In middle school and for some, into high school, to be in the "right group" means to conform to the standards and notions of the group. You dislike who the group dislikes (nerds/non JWs) and only hang around the approved (cool/JWs). The right group maintains the right (accepted) hair style (mullets/no beards), the right clothing (Air Jordans & flipflops/suits & skirts), say the right things (we're cool but of course that goes without saying/we're in the truth but of course that goes without saying) and show an unquestioning loyalty to the leaders. Disfellowshipping and shunning are activities in both groups if loyalty to the leadership is questioned and so most, if not all policies & practices are maintained. Differences with respect to the core group are kept to one's self. The preservation of and affiliation with the group trumps all independent actions.

Shouldn't there be an aversion to this type of behavior? Isn't the goal to get as far away from that as possible?

It seems that the many of you are victims to the Watchtower's leveraging of a natural human desire to gain a group's acceptance. I would recommend that you not let your affiliation with a political party get you to a point that you blindly take skewed information to shove down another's throat. In doing so you've allowed that political party to take the place of the organization many of you loathe.

As someone who has voted in American politics for almost 30 years, I recommend that you vote for the candidate that you sincerely believe serves and will promote the interests that are important to you and your family and then shut up. A political party's fight is not worth losing the friendship of good people who can potentially broaden your thinking.

I'm at 9 of 10 posts but I really thought it was important to provide this food at the proper time.

NeverKnew - Biography?

i'm seeing quite a few posters requesting that new people post their biographies.

i'm almost embarrassed to do this for two reasons.

1. i may be perceived as just another bleeding heart who would have absolutely no clue as to how one feels about leaving or being torn from the society.. 2. i have concerns about the 10+ jws who have infiltrated numerous aspects of my life (work/personal friends/friends of friends) being lurkers and recognizing my "biographical profile.

Tooz: I have seen that you need to have some confidence to post around here and posting is not for the faint at heart! I trust the acceptance of the board. It's the one's who are in my life on a personal level that would run. Seems like that's common around these parts.

I don't want anyone to think my goal is to hurt them. Given the conditional love of the WT, there may come a day that I can be a true friend.
