i have been "lurking" for about four years now.. it was an incredibly weird experience just to look at a site like jwn or freeminds.
he came off very loving.. so, i decided that i would talk to one of my elders about the things i read.

just nothing more than a 'share'..... i was in pittsburgh on business and took a day off and paid a visit to russells grave.. i haven't stopped laughing since.
i'm worried i'm going to break ribs.. had i seen this as a young kid/adult.....i surely would have thought "wtf???".

When I was asking my friends about the grave, they were clueless - so I drove them over and asked them to explain it. All I got were sheepish smiles and shoulder shrugs.

Are you telling me that JWs don't pray for other JWs unless they're at a service-related function? What... do you need approval from an elder as to whether one deserves thought and/or consideration?

Over the last few months, when I see news of JW tragedies I find the original webpages and send them to my JW friends suggesting we ALL say some prayers for the victim's families and congregations. I e-mailed this tragedy. A few minutes later, this was the response I got:
"Do you happen to have anything encouraging to share? That would be good also."
I'm baffled. A couple of weeks ago I got "we mainly provide charity only to those within the organization and the Bible says this is okay" speech, but now I'm getting a "don't tell me anything unencouraging about JWs" blast.... HUH?
Is it not appropriate to pray for the families? Could someone help me understand the thought process/mindset of this?
so this is probably not a big revelation for anyone, but a little for myself.
or at least a sum up of why the jws still cling to many of their beliefs and practices are to gain them notoriety and attention.
so many of the non-witness friends i have now remember the jw kids they grew up with only because they weren't allowed to celebrate the holidays.
Attendees MUST wear name badges and remain dressed up even when NOT at the convention? For all I know, Jesus wore a sheet with some flip-flops. What happens if someone follows Christ's model and wears that? Are we talking about the "Hello my name is..." style badges?

Modern Catholic and other denominations allow for a discretionary "within reason" dress code. I'm sure the more formal dress code would have financially disenfranchised those who truly couldn't afford the required 'uniforms' and associated cleaning costs for their families. At first I think many, especially from my grandmother's era, were appalled but over time, people began to realize that one's clothing had nothing to do with God's purpose.
My insides are churning when I hear my friends speak of the acquisition of suits, dresses and shoes for these service activities when their financial resources could best be used elsewhere. I hurt for the JWs who are struggling financially but have to worry about "keeping up with the Joneses". What's harder is knowing that this crab mentality is being demanded to make the Society look good - D#%# the financial stability of the adherents.
Wonder when the Society will realize that the money used for the suit could have gone in the donation box. *sigh*
there is one lord, one faith, one baptism.. jehovah and jesus are also both spoken of as savior.
this is true because even though there are two personalities, and jesus also possesses a human body, they both also share the same substance or essence of god.
this is similar to my son who shares 50% of my essence in dna.

Cofty, your sarcasm screams louder than your point and it makes it hard to respect your words after that. What would the answers to these questions mean to you? If nothing, then your question is insincere and insulting.

Believers - While I may not be fully following all of the op's words, I share your perception. I really got some great scriptures from you that I hadn't considered with respect to JWs. My concern is that using scriptures to help someone who doesn't believe the Bible is like my boyfriend using the WT to help me believe their doctrines. I hear myself in Cofty when he makes statements suggesting that he's already very "familiar" with what the scripture says, but... If he doesn't believe that the Bible is real because he's not clear on Christ's erectile function, so be it.
Personally, I suspect that our resurrected selves will be understood ...oh, I'd say maybe... after death? Until then, as a Christian, I'm okay not knowing the details. In humility I say I probably wouldn't get it anyways and I surely wouldn't be able to act as an authority to explain it to Cofty.

I've pinpointed the location of his father's shop, the convention site of 1919 (which still stands and is called "SOLDIERS AND SAILORS MEMORIAL") AND teach you some of the correlative history.

they have been interesting study sessions and have learned quite a bit about them and their beliefs.
much of what they teach is what i had learned through personal bible study.. growing up was normal.
