Quantifying the 1914 mantra - is this possible?

for those who do not believe 1914 is a big deal and it's not necessary to understand it, think again.

once (and if) my friend acknowledges that 1914 just simply isn't true, i want to make it clear that this would mean that every single time a statement was made with respect to 1914 it was a lie and according to your wt cd, there were at least (x) times this date was cited.

i want to ask how many awake magazines may have been distributed in the number of years that it held that 1914 statement.... cause everytime an awake magazine with the 1914 statement was distributed by the adherents, they promoted and distributed a lie.

I want him to estimate how many WDTBRT books may have been distributed since it's publication because that too was the promotion of a lie.

One kind poster on this board mailed me a WT CD, but I'm using a MAC at home and can't use it on this machine. Would someone do a search on 1914 and provide me with the number of hits you get on the WT cd? Is it quantified like that? I am hoping to take that result and add 12 times the number of years the Awake magazine promoted the generation of 1914 in the masthead.

This is interesting. As one who has gone to many different denominational churches throughout my life, I can't say that I've ever heard a sermon on tithing as a requirement for membership - EVER. In fact, the most powerful sermon I think I heard with respect to giving was a sermon on different types of giving that this pastor believed was giving (tithing) in the spirit of Christ. I remember examples of giving included helping someone on the street with extra change, helping a co-worker, friend or family member with a bill, giving time in terms of volunteer work to a charity group. That day, I ripped up my $20.00 check (which is my standard) and re-wrote a check for much more.

I sincerely do not remember EVER hearing a sermon that even suggested that my failure to tithe would banish me to Hades. Correlatively, never do I remember anyone being admonished for failing to give a certain amount of money to the church. Heck, if you don't have it? You don't have it! Conversely, I have heard countless stories of the church providing for people who were in need.

Given the pressure to perform and the comparisons in performance (titles and all), I would NEVER use my credit card for KH, assembly or convention activities.

This makes me wanna show up to a random KH and write a big fat check (so they have my address) after a service and drop it in the donation box. If called and asked about it, I'd say, that's my standard weekly donation. I wonder if I'd be able to get an elder to return and answer some darn questions after THAT! LOL LOL LOL

Here's how I verbally inform (educate) with my non-JW ignorance... "you know... I get the math that Russell and Rutherford used 606BC +2520 = 1914. It was all so simple then. (lower voice and look concerned) Too bad they forgot the zero year. Doesn't seem right to change the date of the destruction of the temple to make the formula work. That's like changing the date of the destruction of the World Trade Center to me. I dunno... do you get it? Maybe you can explain it to me..."

I already know he's at a disadvantage (clueless) so I'm trying to educate while leveraging my "confusion". Does he give answers? Absolutely not! Does this mean he isn't researching? He's looking. I'm sure of it. :)

This is the absolute best place to express immediate pain to attempt to release it. Your raw emotion may have an impact on those that don't even think about the hate speech that seems to be prevalent in the talks and lessons. It's encouraging to know that their real message is becoming that obvious.

Leaving Quietly: TOTALLY with you. Handled that. When I attempted to present that to him, I was WAY over his head. Not because he's not bright, but, like many of you I'm sure, he had been unquestioningly loyal to that formula and had never thought it through. As an outsider, when I was presenting formulas, scriptural texts, and logic, the wall was up - the books came out.

He won't rely on his own logic - the poor guy keep attempting to leverage their convoluted crap. I'm trying to get there.
