i've been studying with the jw's for about a year now.

i know that by nature (or nurture!

) i have an addictive personality so i have tried to be real careful that i'm doing the right thing by getting involved with them.

What a fun thread you have started, I hope you are not too overwhelmed. This is a lot to deal with in a short period of time. What ever you do just realize that it is your decision and your life. Once you become a baptized JW that will change but you may need to find that out yourself.

I would just like to add that you will not see many of the things that some of those who have posted to you about the negativity in the JW religion. At least, not for a while. Bible studies like yourself are handled with kid gloves at first and are not given the full treatment of the JW control at first. Later when you are no longer special or in a "virgin" state of indoctrination you will be treated like the average rank and file JW and you will begin to see what many have tried to tell you.

Some times, some people, just need to experience things for themselves before they completely understand what others have tried to explain. That's life.

As far as Robert goes just look at his shining example of "do as I say, not as I do." The JW governing body thinks he is a bigger nut than we do. He's like the annoying little fly that buzzes by your head when your trying to eat lunch. Everyone tries to swat him away but he keeps coming back. Robert is just a lonely old man who has no one to talk to so he comes here and tries to show everyone how many scriptures he can quote. He helps more decide to leave the religion than he has ever persuaded to stay. I think he's a little bit on the Alzheimer side and thinks he's actually god, at least he's his own god. Just watch what you say to him, he likes young girls emailing him.

Losing my Religion......

well at 29 years old, after a lifelong relationship/belief in/association with a higher power i called god, here i am very close to taking an athiestic or agnostic approach to the rest of my life.

it really hit me the other day although my doubts have been there but i just have been forcing myself to ignore them because i was afraid to give up that religious part of me because its all that i have ever been and i was afraid of the unknown.

but i realized after getting through another one of those weeks from hell that it makes no difference how much i pray or how much i believe.

As I have said many time, you are progressing very well. Once you learn to become dependent on yourself you will find there is little you cannot do. Some people feel the need to thank god for the good things that happen to them in life and blame the devil for the bad. This little practice keeps people from becoming self reliant and discovering the importance of knowing them selves. Self reliance is a tool that religion takes away from people and forces them to use their tools to fix their lives. Their tools are their little books and gods and devils and all the little creatures of the night.

If you do good, it's because you are a good person. If you do something bad, its because you are still learning and the key is to learn from your mistakes. Once you have become total self reliant and you take the time to try and understand yourself you will be a lot happier. Patting yourself on the back for doing well builds up confidence in yourself. Sitting down and analyzing what went wrong when you make a mistake will teach you to avoid those mistakes again.

Simply blaming or praising some mythical creature for your actions in life will never teach you about who you really are. Once you have reached this higher level of conscientiousness by truly realizing who you are it will help you begin to explore your personal spirituality. Spirituality is not religion but rather you finding your personal connection to the elements of the rest of the planet. If that later makes you look at the concept of god in a different manner than so be it.

Keeping an open mind is a huge tool in finding out who you are. Closing your mind and adopting religious interpretations about god, the devil and life on earth will keep you constricted to someone else's guidelines for life. Thinking that we are all in a huge pile of shit because a talking snake told a naked lady to eat a piece of fruit is mentally childish and is a tool to keep those who are afraid to find out who they really are in check. Those who come to a complete understanding of who they are and why they do some of the things they do are the ones who have total control over their own lives. Once you have that, a real sense of peace comes over you. It is your own peace in your own space and your own time. Not some guide lines printed in a thousand year old book that some claim to be given to us by "their"god. There are many books like that and none of them agree on anything. Most people have the religious belief they have mainly because of geography.

I know this is going to piss a lot of people off but I need to say it anyway. This quote was given to me by a very close and wise artist friend of mine when I was searching for who I was. We were discussing religion and she told me she was a spiritual person but very much non religious. It was one of the first steps for me finding out who I was. Here is the quote:

"Religion is good for one thing and one thing only, it keeps stupid people from fucking on park benches."

I love that quote.

Keep searching little sister, you will find your answers once you find yourself.

ex-jw's are a bunch of $&^%& style posters, all seam to have one thing in common.. they never stick around for a proper debate.. just fire away some accusations, and leave.. gets on my nerves.. why wont witnesses stay and make their point against reasoned arguments?.

How was the Mad Dog 20/20 last night, or was it Night Train? I'll bet you love having your entire congregation look at you as you sip your juice and munch on your cracker. It is after all your big night. Did you think of all of us as you chomped on your big cookie? Did you tell your congregation how you put in all your service hours talking to apostates on line? I know you don't do the door to door work, those low life walking dead neighbors of yours do not deserve to have the great and powerful wizard of Ja wasting his time coming to their door.

Come on Robert, come back to your own thread and play. This drive by posting style of yours is getting a little boring.

i just stumbled onto this website whilst messing about on the internet and i've taken exception to quite a lot of what i've seen here.

incase you think i'm some irate jehovah's witness idiot who's been offended by the terrible blasphemy that he's read on here, i'm not.

i was raised a jw, but now i'm not one.. first of all, given the url, i thought this website was in some way affiliated with the jehovah's witness organization, whereas in reality it seems from the posts i've read that most people here are either former jehovah's witnesses or soon-to-be former jehovah's witnesses.

I would first like to say welcome, it's nice to have you here. Many like yourself have come here and have asked the same questions. Many like you, have not had the total rejection by their JW families and have not spent many years missing their mother and fathers like others have. There are as many different stories and levels of pain felt by people on this board as there are posters. The is one common link and that is we have all had our lives negatively influenced by the JW religion.

Those who have been treated the worst by the JW's seem to be the most upset. That I would see as fairly normal reaction to a negative influence on anyone's life. Some are more angry and post in a way to express that anger. Some are just here to be with people who understand them. The JW religion puts people in a unique position in that they were raised to be no part of the world so they do not know how to fit into it once they leave the religion. There are remaining cob webs of cult influence that is very hard to shake. At this forum those who have those cob webs can find help and encouragement by others who have learned how to shed them. It is very simple, we don't necessarily fit well into the rest of the world and we have been rejected by out past way of life and family. Those on this board have in a way turned into a family and that is a need that most of us have.

As far as name calling goes, please take a moment and reflect on this. The JW religion is the biggest religion in regard to slanderous name calling and out right condemnation of the people on this earth. Except for those who they consider to be "JW's in good standing" they have called everyone else on this planet worthless, evil, vile, disgusting, perverted, scandalous, deceitful, hated by god, deserving of hideous death, dogs returning to their vomit, offsprins of vipers, undeserving of any love or understanding, and have pretty much sat around dreaming of the day we will all die.

Now tell me, what is worse, calling those who call those who teach this evil nonsense a bunch of assholes or those assholes who teach little children to dream of the day all their class mates will die? Condemnation is condemnation, the JW's just do it using their interpretation of who they think god is as an excuse to name call and condemn. The specific language and words used are irrelevant here.

If you want a few things to think about, stick around. If you want to try and get any of us to say the JW religion is not all that bad, I suggest you look elsewhere to do that. The more you stick around, the more you will start to understand. This is not an easy place to figure out quickly, it takes time to realize the beauty of this site and the people who post here.

Why is it that you never respond to anything I post to you? You have invaded my posts and made comments but when I post in yours I go completely unanswered. You have given an answer to this question before claiming that you consider me a childish baffoon but unless you are completely blind, you, as well as everyone else knows that is far from the truth.

Do I hit a little too close to home for you? Has my descriptions of your psychological make up struck a nerve? Or is it that my pointing out your asking one of the very young female posters on this board to e-mail you exposed your secret weakness?

You were smart enough to decide to stay off of the silent lambs threads after I went after you about why you seemed to attack that particular subject matter so much. At that time I made an agreement that if you left that subject alone I would leave you alone. Until you made a comment in the first Bryant thread I kept my end of the bargain. Now that we are playing this little game again you refuse to acknowledge my comments. I see you responding to everyone else, why have you chosen me to ignore?

Do you feel that I am some kind of threat to you Robert? Do you think that I can expose things about you that you do not want exposed? Or, was it that when you were contacted by Bethel about your posting on this forum it scared you a little and you chose not to mess with a few select people on this forum? I have noticed since you received that little word of caution from the good old boys in Brooklyn you seem to have toned things down a bit.

Come on Robert, I want you to play with me. You are one of my favorite kids in the sandbox. I have always had a fond feeling for anyone who constantly calls me and my friends stupid and wishes only death upon us. Can't you take what I say to you anymore Robert? I'm starting to feel shunned here Robert. We all know you do not accept the GB's orders to shun because you come to this board and openly talk to use like we are your only friends. Are we your only friends Robert? I do want to say a little "thank you" for not shunning us and talking to us all the time, even tough it is to tell us we are all stupid and we are all going to die. At least we all talk to you Robert. That is probably more than the people in your own congregation do, or else why would you be here?

sorry I did not check back to this thread until now. I will try to answer your questions.

1. From what I understand he had received such a negative response from the elders in his congregation as well as his parents and siblings he started to do his own personal bible reading and relied on that. I have not heard anything from Jeb that would indicate that Sharon told him that Robert had any communication with the GB directly.

2. I do not know the answer to this question.

3. Again, I have not heard anything that indicated that Robert had a computer or had ever looked into the Internet.

4. I believe Robert felt that it was Jehovah that had given him the message of being a chosen one. Being told his whole life that Jehovah will answer his prayers I guess he looked at what he felt he had heard as just that. The elders in his congregation took it upon themselves to decide that Jehovah did not talk to Robert because they felt they were more worthy of this than he was.

Sorry I couldn't give you more information. I will post more as I find out more. Until Sharon gets the letters you all wrote I do not think I will be hearing much more about all of this.

Sometimes ya just gotta like someone cuz they are so damn nice. You and I will never agree on bible and god stuff. I take a little exception to you insinuating that my life has no value but, if I listened to every person who thinks they talk to God and thinks I am worthless because I do not, I'd have to sell tickets so people could watch the fire works. I like you even though you are in MY opinion somewhat delusional. At least you are not Like Robert and live with a constant gray cloud over your head.

It doesn't matter what I think, just as long as you wake up in the morning with a smile on your face and you don't send anyone to bed at night crying.

Tell God I said hi and ask him if I'm ever going to make any money on my Hollywood video stock. It's been in the toilet for over a year now. If he has any other good stock tips I would greatly appreciate the heads up.
