  What would you think if?

  if a dud came to your door and said, we no longer shun ex members let's become friends again.

  if the wt said the preaching work has ended.. if wt encouraged the members to vote in all elections.

  if the blood ban was removed.

  >I would leave the organization because they would not be following Jehovah's instructions that are in the Bible.

  If the WT annouced it was okay to celebrate holidays.

  >I would also leave because this would be a sign that they are just like any other religion that follows traditions of men instead of the Bible.

  If the WT said, more than 144,000 will live in heaven

  >I would ask for Biblical proof.

  i am shocked at the many accusations against jehovah's witnesses in this forum.. i know that i am young, but most of my family are jws and they are good people and i love them.

  even my worldly family is very nice and i do not shun them.

  the friends in the hall are very nice also.

  namewithheld: I see your point. If that were to happen to my dad, I would be comforted to know that he was faithful to Jehovah until the end. But I understand what you are saying

  The Bible say we not to be part of this world, so voting for political seats is not appropiate. We can vote for things that affect us in our local community, like tax hikes and things of that nature.

  Donating blood is also not allowed because we would be participating in blood transfussions.

  You will not be disfellowshipped for watching an R rated movie. But I understand that rules such as this one should not be forced upon us.

  You will not be disfellowshipped for going to college.

  I agree that some JWs are obsessed with little details, but the majority is o.k.

  freeman: the Bible only says blood. the organ transplants i'm not sure about. Being part of Mexico's army does not sound right. No JWs are part of the army.

  One question, what rules does the Governing Body impose that are not in the Bible?

  I don't believe the governing body is our mediator, Jesus is, that is why prayers are offered in the name of Jesus. I think my parents have way more rules than what the governing body has, but still I obey them because the Bible tells me to honor them.

  namewithheld: please don't twist my words. I did not say "sorry about your back luck, shit happens, oh well". I only said that those were different times. I did not mean anything bad by that. I didn't say it was his fault. My dad grew up as a JW and he went to a two year college and has done o.k. in life. Just because someone told him not to go, doesn't mean he couldn't go.

  bitter mango: you are right about that. I am learning a lot, there are many sad storys here.

  I don't think they are. I am not sure but isn't a cult those that follow a man or a teacher, like the Branch Davidians? I believe that Jesus is the head of the congregation.

  AMarie: Thanks for welcoming me. Regarding the smoking issue, I believe it is based on a principle in 2 Cor. 7:1 about being clean. Personally as far as smoking, I hate it, but I think elders do give someone that has that habit a chance to quit. If they don't quit, then I guess they're disfellowshipped. I don't know if that's right or not, but it's good if people don't smoke.

  Scully: I guess I agree that there are degrees of wrongdoing, how many times it happend and all that. I have asked my dad some questions about that, and he says that a person that is humble and accepts responsability for what he has done and changes his ways, can receive a reproove and not necessarily be disfellowshipped.

  Adonai: Wow you went through a rough teen years. I am lucky to have a family that loves me and protects me. I always thank Jehovah for the parents I have. It's great that you have managed to find happiness in your life.

  Ajaxman: I don't know yet. I spoke to an elder and asked what he recommended and he told me that although four years of school seems like a long time, that I won't regret because a bachelors degree is necessary for many jobs now adays. I like computers and a two year program seems good enough. I still have time to decide, meanwhile I will be going to a junior college.

  puffsrule: I understand your point. I guess your parents were really strict on you if they didn't allowed you to play at recess time. Sounds a bit tough I think.

  On point two, I don't think that JWs treat women like the Taliban does. That's very extreme. In out household, my dad is the head but he treats my mom with dignity and respect. Her opinions are highly regarded. I don't think that the brothers walk all over me at the hall.

  On the college thing, sorry you didn't go. I guess those were different times.

  On point #5, it seems you were really hurt by what your parents went through. Sorry about that. I doubt that not having oral sex broke the marriage. I think there is more to love than sex. There must be other issues that were not explained to you, maybe because you were only 11. I agree that it is not normal. Have you been able to get over those problems? I hope so.

  surely the borg, correct me if i am wrong, tells (us)you to stay away from anything apostate.

  to treat it with the disdain it deserves... so why?, i ask you, are you participating?

  If I may, I would like address some of the comments. Please let me know if I am out of line.

  puffsrule: You say JWs destroyed your family because your father was disfellowshipped for smoking. Was it JWs that destroyed your family, or was it your father for smoking?

  On your point #1, I was protected also as a child from worldly associations. I wish more parents protected their kids, JWs or not JWs, this would bring down the number of child abuse.

  On point #2, I don't mind women being in subjection, this is instructed in the Bible, Jesus is the head of the congregation, and the man is the head of the household. Someone has to drive, can't have two drivers.

  #3: I will be going to college next fall.

  #4: About Armageddon, well I know the Bible talks about it and I believe the Bible. But you are free to believe that it won't happen.
