Father Christmas was getting a colonic, not the same thing. A colonic is supposed to be like a major enema, to clean out the 'ole plumbing. What Pat is having is a procedure to check for colon cancer.

I had that procedure done a couple of years ago. Call me crazy but I didn't hate it all that much. The 'prep' I found to be very cleansing. And the drugs they gave during the procedure were great. I was in la-la land. I asked them if I could take the i.v. home.:) And I got a clean bill of health.

and it got me to wondering, does anybody even use cursive writing anymore other than to sign their name?

there was a story i used to tell a lot about a scientist who worked in the nuclear power industry.
this scientist had a job of public relations and would go around to different groups around the country.
he was afraid to fly anywhere though, so the company provided him a chauffer to take him from city to city.. somewhere in the course of giving the same speech over and over again, the chauffer tells him: doc, ive heard you give this same speech now a couple of dozen times, and i have it memorized word for word.

Interesting question, and one I had to ask myself a couple of years ago when my hubby left me because I was a controlling, bossy, argumentative, know-it-all b-word. I was also funny, life of the party, kind, compassionate, and a good mom to my kids. But the negative overshadowed the positive in his eyes.
Basically, after a year of therapy and self analysis I came to the conclusion that you can be who you are as long as you aren't taking away from other people being who they are. One of the reasons that I was controlling etc.... was because I was trying to mold him into the person "I" thought he should be, not the person he was. When you go through life trying to get people to see life through your eyes and think the way you think, it turns you into not a very pleasant person to be around. So then you have to ask yourself "Do I want to continue down this path and be alone or do I want to make some changes and be surrounded by people that are not going to think the way I think or see things the way I see them or do things the way I would do them?" I chose to make changes. And I've never been happier.
Oh, and by the way hubby and I got back together and we've never been more in love.

I got chills reading your post. Being a mom is the best thing that ever happened to me. If I wouldn't of had children I would probably be dead in a ditch somewhere. They made me see what was really important in life.
You are a kick-ass writer. You should submit this story to a magazine like parents or something.

Not trying to be negative about your story or anything but a few things just didn't jive with me.

I have attended 5 different KH at different times and we have never met at 7:30 am. And children are usually not allowed to "run around and play", and the teens were usually not separated out on different sides of the KH.

Notice the part where he says "if we do not bow to him he will see us in hell". I can't imagine a JW elder saying that.
I also can't imgagine them asking you to come visit a JW family. The whole thing just seems out of the norm for JW's.

my handle: mindchild comes from computer scientist and futurist dr. hans moravec: who wrote the book, the future of robot and human intelligence which is a book about when we will be able to construct machines capable of human intelligence and raises the possibility of uploading ourselves (every thought we ever had) into an android body much superior to the human ones we have now.
i entertain the hope that not only will i live long enough to see this happen, i will transfer myself (the complete essence of what is me) into a body of my own choosing and become immortal if i so choose.
I got my name from a song sung by Shawn Mullins. A local artist who did manage to have a couple of popular songs. He has a song called "Shimmer" which brought me to tears the first time I heard it(probably because of where I "was" at that time in my life/marriage/motherhood).
The part that I like goes like this:
