  Oh, God...

  This is the second time in 15 minutes that I'm actually going to DEFEND this religion *cringe*.

  Is there anything creepy or wrong about wearing your team's Jersey when watching a game on TV at home?

  Is there anything creepy wrong with employees wearing uniforms while in a video conference call?

  Is there anything creepy or wrong with wearing your wedding ring when your spouse is away and you're home alone?

  How about students wearing their cap and gown at their virtual graduation?

  Dressing respectfully for a virtual funeral?

  It's about enhancing the experience and feeling connected, even if you're not there physically.

  It's also a coping mechanism to deal with how abnormal and even uncomfortable our current way of life has become.
  

  I'm sure we have bigger fish to fry when it comes to this organization than whether or not JWs are trying, like everybody else, to ground themselves in a semblance of normalcy in this crazy time.

  JW's and the National Anthem/Flag

  one thing we were always taught in the past is how we should sit down and pray (kneel) to jehoober whenever we were at an event where they played the national anthem.

  we had to actively disrespect the flag and anthem and be no part of the world, because we were our own country with jesus as king.. given kneeling/sitting for the national anthem is now the favorite pastime of the far-left and if you do so, you get associated with democrats, how do jehovah's witnesses now 'become no part of this world' when they have to disrespect the flag?.

  I'm pretty sure the flag doesn't have strong feelings either way whether or not anybody shows it the proper respect

  Glad we're all on the same page that cultlike behavior is extremely harmful, and that we should all instead engage in perfunctory public rituals of symbolic loyalty to an abstract concept, expressing severe levels of scorn to socially sanction those who do not exhibit strict compliance to the mandated norm

  Given how much symbolism and ambiguity there is in the Bible (whether originally intended by the writers or not), there is no reason that even true believers need to be pigeonholed into accepting fundamentalist/literalist dogma.

  Alternatives:

  1) It's a parable and you have the honor of deciding what it means to you.

  2) It's an allegory symbolizing groups of people long since forgotten to history.

  3) It's literally true, but the commonly accepted chronology is wrong by orders of magnitude.

  4) It's literally true, but happened in a parallel universe. Schrodinger's serpent, if you will.

  There ya go, I just saved everybody's religion! All I ask for is 1% royalty on all your donations

  i have a niece who is trying to get pregnant.

  she was telling me her husband had to go to a room with porn in it and masturbate into a cup to get tested.

  i never thought of this before but but how would a jw handle this.

  I got a vasectomy before I got married.

  I always wanted one, but thought it was wise to wait until I was planning marriage and to discuss it with my hypothetical future wife first.

  Turns out, my wife didn't know until much later that I had to ejaculate a bunch of times, on my own, after having the procedure in order to clear out any leftover sperm. She was unhappy about my "unclean" acts, but ultimate decided that it was a necessary evil.

  In a future episode: all the creepy weird shit the Watchtower says about sterilization, and the measures you have to undertake so as to not "stumble" all the people whose business your vasectomy isn't.

  If we quote the whole verse, it says something quite different than what you are claiming it says.

  "so that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend—of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground—"

  If we get rid of your parenthetical interpolation, it says something quite different than what you are claiming it says.

  "and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father"

  If we quote the very next verse, it says something quite different than what you are claiming it says.

  The amazing thing here is just how well you imitated watchtower logic (taking verses out of context, claiming a verse says something it doesn't) in attempting to prove your point.

  Rule of thumb: the more rhetorical hoops you have to jump through while attempting to prove your point, the less likely your point is to be correct.

  "Weaker vessel" is a biblical expression not unique to JWs, but JWs are very clear that the verse is NOT saying that the woman is weaker than a man, rather, that the man should treat her as more precious than himself. I don't see anything inherently wrong with that, so I'll give that one a pass.

  It's not just how tyranical, uncaring and unscriptural the whole process is. It's that every step of the process is precisely constructed to ensure the highest possible liklihood of disfellowshipping the alleged wrongdoer.

  Rules to follow:

  - Don't let an elder who cares too much about the individual be on the judicial comitee. (not shown in this clip, but earlier in the video)

  - Make sure to begin the judicial hearing by pronoucing the irrefutable pretense of guilt. (also not shown in this clip)

  - Don't discuss any positive aspects of the individual's character nor prior good acts.

  - Nitpick every single imaginable detail to ensure that the absolute maximum level of culpability can be ascribed to the individual.

  - Require the individual to not just express lament for his actions, but also demonstrate complete desolation and desperation, throwing himself at the mercy of the comittee.

  - Even after doing so, give the individual absolutlely no credit for acknowledging his error if he fails to show the "correct" form of sorrow.

  - Disfellowship him without allowing him another chance to explain himself.

  - Pretend like the individual doesn't exist for at least 6 months, or at most, for the entire rest of his life.
