@Splash That's what I thought, but if they hear you have $$$$ they want to "suggest" how you use it.

I don't know what's more disgusting, the fact that they openly demand money or the fact that the JWs don't SEE how disgraceful this is anymore.
My mother made a big contribution once (before I controlled the money).
A couple of years ago she was asked to make another large contribution. I told the brothers "a few years ago she made a large contribution and that's all that's going to happen, she needs to keep her money. I need it to care for her." Uncomfortable silence followed, but after that they haven't asked again.

Elder asking for help
by untruth inthis is my first time posting on here so i’m not sure where to start.
i’m trying to keep it as short as possible since i could expand much more.
i’ve been in the process of waking up in the last year and a half.

Untruth, what a situation, I have so much respect for you in this tough situation.
I didn't go through the same (turns out Mr. Spiral was having doubts for a long time too!) but I have to agree with Greybeard on this one, other comments have been on point too I'm sure.
I'm wondering, is it possible you can move/transfer jobs to a new and exciting place? If you get your wife away from her usual group, changing your reality and doing something fun and new, she might see things in a whole new light. Sometimes, a "change of venue" is what's needed to see things from a new perspective.
I can tell you one thing, it's very true that a lot of JWs are really strict with themselves until they get into their late 50s or 60s, suddenly they wake up a bit and say WTF did I do wasting all these years???? I have seen this SEVERAL times this year, and it's heartbreaking to see people you know and like (but not really my friends, because the bOrg always came first) suddenly realize they've been duped. Good for you for waking up now!!!

Egyptian Kingdom died 4200 years ago following mega drought.
by James Mixon inwhen was that flood?.
what i don't understand is this, people who make these kinds of discovers still believe in the bible(flood).
apparently egypt was destroyed in the flood and they forgot to mention it or folks were having a lot of babies and rebuiiled egypt in record time.

Excellent thread, James Mixon. I think this is one of the first things I realized that makes absolutely no sense. A sister in the congregation had gone to Eqypt and brought back pictures, and then said the pyramids were older than the flood. I immediately thought WT#*@!! and went home to research Egyptian history. So did the Egyptians all get washed away, and then somehow immediately came back and kept building their cities and monuments? Where would be the "gap" in their history where everyone was gone? If the Bible timeline is correct, how did the Egyptians get their start so early, and accomplish so much? How could Noah build the ark while travelling around even down into Egypt and North Africa (presumably) to preach to all the people there?

According to one JW there can only be 1 of 3 reasons why you left.
by Bonsai ini asked an old jw friend of mine why so many baptized individuals leave the jw religion.
"did it ever occur to you, old friend, that maybe they know something that you don't know and have valid reasons for leaving?
", i asked.. his response set me back for an answer.

We've heard that reasoning from the relatives lately.
It's all an excuse because they don't want to see reality - nothing about the bOrg makes sense. It's all a joke, and some people DO see through it.

Major congregational quake in Southern California
by Hecce inthis notice is not official yet and it should be confidential until released thru the proper channels.
a friend of mine told me about a huge elders meeting in southern california.
the subject was the relocation and dissolution of some congregations; it seems that this is the result of some project that has been going on for some time and is going to be implemented right now.. please let me know if this is happening all over the country?.

@Hecce - Interesting, because the foreign language congos I know of, at this point, are doing better than the English speaking congregations. But, they sometimes get short shrift at the halls....

@PeteZaHut - back in the day I would have agreed with you, but I'm just not seeing that level of devotion any more.
@Giordano - I agree, it will be a deal breaker, at least if it happened here in the US. Why go so far when there's a church on the corner and a mega church online?

I know of one area where they rearranged everyone, turns out so they could consolidate and close two halls. (This was not explained in the beginning.) Everyone grumbled but tried to comply. But a few years on, it turns out that a lot of the ones who were most inconvenienced (traffic, bus rides, driving at night) just quit going, at least to the week night meeting. What I think happened (reading between the lines of some emails I received) is that everything got confused and backwards, and some people just quit going and no one noticed.
So, the bOrg better be careful, by turning into a mega church, they might lose a lot of followers. And I do think they care, I don't think they would purposely want to shrink, just because of their egos.

WT “Study” for 18th Sept 2016 – “Grateful Recipients of God’s Undeserved Kindness”
by Nicholaus Kopernicus in“life is to short” has commented on the above study in terms of grace being translated as undeserved kindness in the nwt.
the analysis is quite interesting.. here in this thread, i will be opening up other facets of the “study”.
for example.... paragraph 11 applies the daniel 12:3 phrase – “those having insight” to the “anointed remnant”.

The study articles and the meetings in general are incredibly dull, and I agree they are just .... gibberish! Today's is no exception.
Who writes this stuff? Really - it's just a mess. No wonder meeting attendance keeps slipping, at least where I am. A good percentage (maybe 70%) of attendees here are elderly, going to meeting out of habit.

I need more faith so I've been told
by hoser ini attended the circus assembly last weekend and i have come to the conclusion i am lacking faith.
the opening talk on the program, the very first words that came out of the speakers mouth told me so.
he said most of us here are lacking faith even though we might not know it.

"most of us here are lacking faith even though we might not know it."
Interesting comment, probably true. Most have just been bored to death for so long they don't even know what they think. (My observation here locally.) BUT I think it's a little telling, the powers that be up the ladder realize they have a negative (to them) trend on their hands?
