  it now appears that the wt can df you just by marking you.

  this happened to my me and my wife a few week ago.

  a marking talk was given at the mid-week meeting in which no names were mentioned yet a detailed description of the "offending bastards" was delivered so that there as no doubt who this "pond scum" might be.

  And to think I was just recently told the JWs don't "mark" any more, what a joke.

  DK, best wishes to your whole family!! It's problematical to have a JW cleaner (I know this from experience) so it might be better for you to have someone who doesn't report back to the elders. Sheesh!

  I agree, when I saw that article, I thought it was weird even by JW standards. One could hope it was written out of a sort of desperation to keep the worker bees under control.

  But, the JWs I know were totally taken in. "Look, they say they don't brainwash us, so it must be true! I can have my own thoughts as long as they are WT approved thoughts!"

  How many "leave the truth" because of the behaviour of harsh elders?

  just wondering how many are assisted to wake up after experiencing harsh treatment from "the loving shepherds of the congregation"?.

  perhaps some were starting to wake up, and such behaviour or treatment gave them the push to leave?.

  as jesus supposedly said "come to me all who are toiling and loaded down, and i will refresh you.

  @joe134cd: problem is, if the publisher/MS/Elder can't count the time because the elderly sister is baptised, there's no motivation (bOrg-wise) to do so. I've seen that here where I am. The sisters will go visit (repeatedly) elderly, home-bound ones to make return visits, but the elderly home-bound congregation members are never visited.

  A particularly harsh and unfair control freak elder was the first thing that made me start to wake up. It took a few years and some other issues, but his outrageous behavior was what opened the door to reality for me.

  the manipulative use of language by the org in the upcoming circuit assembly talks is as good - or better - than any advertising conglomerate could devise.

  Yes, beware of "fake news" everywhere. Listen to nothing but what we tell you!

  I can remember a time, when I was small, when the JWs were encouraged to listen to the news and keep up with current events, etc., because it was all going to prove Bible prophecy.

  Now, it's hide your head in the sand. I agree with Mr. Flipper. Something is way off here!

  Do You Think Jehovah's Witnesses Are Typically Ignorant People?

  i think most witnesses are simple minded.many are ignorant.

  there are a lot of basically "good people "in the religion but i believe many are kind of dumb, including many elders.

  do you agree with my thoughts??

  LongHairGal: Some of the people in the religion had very poor life skills and some did not think it mattered. They were led to believe all they needed were the religion and the literature.

  
  That is the big difference. Being raised a JW, we didn't receive a lot of learning in "life skills" BUT I always knew in the back of my mind I was lacking them, and struggled to catch up. Still do in a way, I am pretty insecure about my lack of a college degree, although I've managed to compensate for it. Mostly, anyway, because being able to go on to college is about more than just the classes, it's the total package of learning opportunities and life experiences that can make it so important.
  So in this aspect the JWs are really behind, but as sparrowdown pointed out it's still a choice. Some of us chose to move on and make our own decisions. Others chose to remain enslaved to the dogma. So if you are using that as a definition of "ignorant", than most JWs certainly are. As I commented on another thread, they can also be amazingly smug.
