I can't wait for that elder visit, by the way. No WAY is any more of my mother's money going to them!

So What Drastic Money Change is Next?
by OnTheWayOut inokay, they cheapened the product by getting rid of hardcover books.
they reduced printing of mags.
they drastically reduced the number of pieces of printed paper that members would "place" in people's hands in various ways, the biggest one being that they put them on a cart and don't encourage people to take them.they cut d.o.

I think they are going to figure out some sort of "theocratic" (gag) way to tithe, perhaps by making everyone set up a login to the website, and then guilting them into setting up a monthly contribution. Perhaps they will create a report on the congregation publishers and expect the elders to visit ones that don't contribute and coerce them into compliance.
Many "brothers" here have no money, so I fail to see how that will work long term, but I think the bOrg is worming their way into that requirement.

JWS, I agree with you. So much was not covered. BUT the problem I experience is that when you talk to people who have not lived the total crazy of bOrgland, they just can't absorb it at once (I had this experience just this week). I think it would take a whole series to cover all the bat s*** crazy stuff that the bOrg puts people through. "Normal" people just can't picture it. I am glad they talked about the fear of Armageddon and the effect this has on children, and on the problem of "converting" pedophiles and sex offenders from the prisons. That particular problem I've seen myself, and the brothers were clueless as to the consequences.
And I think it's very powerful they are grouped in with all the other cults. Just that, in itself, speaks volumes.
Dagney, in this case I think the WT thinks that THEY are the victims. They could care less about the real victims, and they don't think the actual victims have any "rights" at all. I also hope this program gets lots of circulation.

@jws, thanks, I did get to see the show the following morning when it posted to A&E's app. I couldn't watch it on regular TV because the only TV is in my mom's bedroom. It cost me a bit but worth it.
I thought the show was very good. If you haven't been a JW or experienced another high-control, cultish religion, it takes a while to understand what really goes on. The show was presented in such a way that "outsiders" could understand the dysfunction of the bOrg. I hope more coverage is coming!
I also hope this gave Romy some closure (if that's possible), this took a lot of courage on her part. And Barbara was awesome.

OK, problem solved, $50 later...... My internet provider has me on TV service, but not FULL TV service (I just watch stuff on my computer, my mom has a smart TV, but we have basic cable with internet) so I had to agree to upgrade to get A&E to work. $50 extra a month, wow!
You can bet I'll be calling tomorrow to cancel (made sure I could), but at least I can watch the episode tonite!!

Any A&E experts out there who know how to get "permission" to watch the video? I've just spent quite a bit of time linking the A&E app to my TV provider, but when I try to watch the first episode of "Cults and Extreme BeLIEf" it gives me a message saying I don't have permission to watch. Hoping this goes away? Sure don't want to miss it!

Cringe worthy moment:
Recently baptized 10 year old says sometimes he" doesn't feel worthy" when asked what challenges he faces.
THAT is child abuse. I bet everyone clapped.
The rest is just a do-over of the early 70s.
You know, I am getting to the point when the JWs are around and they have problems, issues, etc., I just don't feel sorry any more. How can they not see what a joke this all is? Especially in a congregation with so many poor elderly ones with NOTHING, who gave everything up when they were young (and feeling unworthy).

Hopefully this will educate the public and help end the WT's rule of secrecy at all costs
by cha ching ini'm glad barbara wrote this book - "barbara anderson uncensored: eyewitness to deceit" - it will be an eye opener for the public who only see the polite people at carts or walking door to door.
it will help them see who the wt really is through her experiences working at bethel in the writing department.
i liked the contribution of bonnie zieman and jon atack who additionally help expose the type of control wt exerts, and what the aftermath of child sex abuse has on it's jw victims.. it's a fairly short book, 71 pages, it explains barbara's reasons for continuing her activism against child sexual abuse.

Don't be too Christian, you'll raise red flags
by neat blue dog infor the past few years all my comments and talks have been a purely christian message.
i tiptoe around wt dogma and focus on the basics of love, life compassion, etc.
and i deliberately do not use jw terminology whenever i can.

My experience in giving talks doesn't really compare, as I am but a lowly sister, only ever allowed to be on the school. However, when I did give a talk I would try to do something to make it more interesting. I never felt I needed practice, as giving presentations and trainings (which I created and was responsible for) was part of my job, which I enjoyed, and I did it all the time. Giving a little six minute spiel didn't compare.
Anyway, the last talk I gave I rearranged the order of the information because it was just awkward the way it was listed in the source book. It's very hard to give a talk with no logical progression - I'm sure you guys would agree - so I rearranged it to make it flow better. I got quite the scolding from the brother giving counsel. This was 12 years ago, and after that I never gave another talk, nor did I accept a last minute assignment (from the same brother) like I used to.
The whole thing just was ridiculous.
But I can tell you, the rank and file really do appreciate a talk that's given authentically from a brother who cares - versus the scripted stuff they require now. I can remember as a teenager how some of my favorite brothers would give talks really from the heart, and you got a lot out of them. Not any more - people are half asleep at the meetings, it is so boring.
