Leolaia, just a quick thank you for detailing a mighty effort to fit the facts to the WT chronology. Their system of thought is workable only if one asks the "right" questions. Unfortunatly , thinkers generaly ask the wrong questions.

Possible Severe JW Chronology issue - need help please - research thread
by donkey inhow do i make that claim?
i will explain the reasoning but i need some help and quotes from the insight book if some of you can help me since i currently have limited access to jw literature.. the jw's believe that a global flood occurred and all mankind except for noah, his 3 sons and their wives survived.
that leaves only 1 family of the same language and nationality to "start over".. the jw's believe that some time after the global flood nimrod and others (there must have been many) sought to build a large tower - the tower of babel.

Another Warning From God
by Kenneson inthe message remains the same.
reform your lives or be chastised.
from the comments i have read about god's supposed non-existence in this forum, it seems that we will only learn the hard way.

I received this email and thought it relavent to the topic at hand:
"I think I'm getting the hang of it ( no pun intended). The hurricanes go where there are gays. So, thinking logically , the gays are a potential terrorist weapon and we can expect to see Middle Eastern suicide gays visiting , en mass, such beloved sites as the Statue of liberty, Washington Monument , Mt. Rushmore and we should expect to see Divine hurricanes take them out. Consistent with the idea that the best defense is a good offense we should soon see that the US will be offering a tidy sum to gather gays together and ship them to Tehran and Syria and even China thereby sparking the "Gay race". After much destruction and collateral damage of innocent people, the use of God to fight the "Gay Wars" will be debated in the Security Council with a resultant "gay resolution"limiting the number of gays per square mile in every country. Only then will the hurricanes stop and oil prices go down . "

Thank you for showing clearly that the conflicting messages of the Bible cause anxiety in believers. The problem also shows up in the contrasting of Jesus' words to "not worry " while Paul speaks of "working out salvation through fear and trembling" also, the emphasis on "time" and the end is at odds with peace. Some have reconciled these conflicting ideas . How? By noting that the spiritual ideas have Buddhist roots whereas the time and militant ideas have Judaic roots. If this interests you , you might try reading The Original Jesus ( the Buddhist Sources of Christianity) by Elmar R. Gruber and Holger Kersten published in the USA in 1995 by Element Books ,Inc.

Philosophy - is it worth the bother?
by Abaddon ini fully admit to only having dabbled in the waters of philosophy up to now.
i kept on being put off by the smell... .
having said that, is there anyone more clued up than me about the subject who can tell me anything that might make me change my mind?.

talespin, your right ,all of it can be done and enjoyed . I go on binges with all these things but they do not resolve the conflict that is within me, so I always return to what is being overlooked. The present
Experiencing Ego death at the age of 28, bringing that insight into Jehovah's Witnesses and subjecting myself to the Governing Body as something I could do because of knowing this fundamental truth, led to a full understanding of the fallacy of Belief without Ego death. As a Witness, I became a "believer" in every sense of the word however I noticed that my belief made me an "actor" whereas Ego death transformed me. There was no peace in "acting" only anxiety.
After much suffering , it became clear that I was in the wrong place simply because of the insight about Ego death.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, Krishnamurti, D.T. Suzuki, Alan Watts, Nagarjuna, Jesus Christ, St Francis, William Blake,Spinoza,Ingersoll, William James, Ram Dass, Eckhart Tolle, Aldos Huxley,Mark Twain, The Tibetan Book of the Dead : All of these have helped , especially Krishnamurti.
As children the unity of life was palpable. That fact, which is in our memory,is still right in front of us. Perceiving it changes everything , including our philosophy.
The quality of lifes oneness, which is palpable to children, comes from their feeling the relationship of the world of "relatives" to the Absolute World which is the Source. When we separate these we are like children touching only a single point on a rod instead of like children touching the point as well as the entire rod. Perception is like that.
I understand the suffering we are going through and have tried , from the beginning , to point a way out. I see others trying to help. I'm sorry if I misunderstood your post, I'm always trying to get that one point across... the problem is in the mechanism we are using to solve the problem...Thinking. We don't have to disgard it permanantly, just long enough to uncover its wily ways.

Can't understand why "poppers" post is being overlooked . Are we still so far away from understanding that the problem is the "thinking process" itself . There is more in direct perception than in all the philosophies that have ever been and will ever be..

Televangelist equates "Atheism" and "Hedonism" with Hemingway's suicide
by tetrapod.sapien inmy dog and i were watching "church of the rock" this morning on t.v.
my dog goes in for that sort of stuff, so i humor him.
he's only 10 weeks old, so i don't really chap his ass too much about it, yet.. anyways, the preacher was talking about how christianity is like the "adventure" of a life time.

"In my opinion, being a good and ethical person and finding meaning in one's life, has nothing to do with belief in God, and everything to do with a strong sense of kindness, justice, compassion, and drive. "
SNG
Yes! This is why religious "transformation" (strong sense of kindness, justice, compassion) triumphs over religious "imitation" ( strong sense of being right according to the "rules"). Religious transformation in its broadest sense, may not include a belief system of any kind.

Always look into the source of such clap trap interpretations. I remember hearing a Circuit Overseer demeaning the heroic act of John Jacob Astor who gave a child his place on the Titanic lifeboat. Astor died in the icy sea! What did the Circuit Overseer get from all that ....."none of his riches were able to save him (Astor)." The Circuit Overseer was so eager to impress that he twisted and maligned a truly noble act. I left the meeting and had to cool off . I never went back. That was my last meeting.
